USA Network and Vanity Fair came together to celebrate a few amazing people who help shape American culture. The Character Approved Awards is a multimedia campaign honoring individuals who are changing the face of American culture. If you watch the USA Networks shows like I do, then you are very familiar with the celebrations of characters – the ones they create and real life ones. “Inspired by USA’s Characters Welcome brand, the initiative is dedicated to celebrating the true trailblazers across a variety of disciplines such as art, philanthropy, new media and film.” The Character Approved 2010 honorees are:
• Green Day (Music)
• Kathryn Bigelow (Film/TV)
• Nora Ephron (Writing)
• Narciso Rodriguez (Fashion)
• Angela Brooks (Architecture)
• Kehinde Wiley (Art)
• Yves Behar (Design)
• Dan Barber (Food)
• Jessica Jackley (Giving)
• Alex Rigopulos and Eran Egozy (New Media/Technology – they created Rock Band and other amazing video games)
I was unfortunately stranded for over an hour (thanks to the hellish MTA and the M11 Bus), so I missed all of the red carpet arrivals and the performance of American Idiot from the cast of Green Day’s Stage Musical by the same name. I found out I missed Gabourey Sidibe, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Nicole Miller, Narcisco Rodriguez, Tiffani Thiessen, Gabrielle Anwar, Jeff Goldblum, etc but I did manage to speak with and get photos of some of my favorite USA Network stars including (in order shown below): “Jeffrey Donovan (Burn Notice), Tamara Tunie (Law & Order: SVU), Willie Garson (White Collar but most known from Sex and the City), Dule Hill (Psych), Tim DeKay & Sharif Atkins (White Collar), Jill Flint & Reshma Shetty (Royal Pains) and the very yummy Matt Bomer w/ Tim DeKay (White Collar)”
It’s amazing to see that despite the incredible 2nd blizzard, all of these stars came out. And of course, many other media and other guests were in attendance as well (I guess 12-16 inches of snow and high powered winds couldn’t stop us from enjoying a nice stocked bar, great music and a chance to hobnob with a few celebs – all of whom were so nice and open to everyone
I leave you with a brief video of the party (the best part for me was seeing Tamara Tunie and Jeffrey Donovan enjoying the music
