Work And Play: 5 Tricks To Working Remotely While Traveling The World

Work And Play: 5 Tricks To Working Remotely While Traveling The World

Every time you open Instagram it seems like all of your friends are jetting off on adventures around the world, and you’re always left wondering how they manage it with work responsibilities. The big secret is that many of these people have jobs that allow them to work remotely. Many millennials, a generation predicted to spend $1.4 trillion on travel every year by 2020, are working as freelancers, in contract positions, or at jobs that allow them to work remotely. This flexibility gives them the freedom to travel, but there are some key tricks to still getting the job done while having fun on the road.

Work And Play: 5 Tricks To Working Remotely While Traveling The World

Young man with glasses working on his notebook, with a fresh cup of coffee nice and early in the morning, getting the business out of the way nice and early in the day

  1. Pick the right destination
The biggest amenity you need to account for when traveling and working is internet access. Remote working is only possible through being able to communicate digitally. While something like a cruise may be enticing because the ships provide entertainment and activities for all ages while taking you to seaside destinations, you may have to fight against spotty or limited Wi-Fi. Make sure that you’ll be able to get internet access wherever you go, and consider traveling to major cities like Los Angeles or Chicago, which can guarantee that you’ll have good service.
  2. Find a comfortable place to stay
While hostels are a famously affordable lodging option for travelers, they aren’t the most comfortable or work-oriented. When you’re traveling and working, you’ll want to make sure that you have a set environment that is conducive to getting work done. Many people opt to find lodging through Airbnb or similar services, and others even rent or sublet apartments for longer stays. You’ll want to make sure the services and stores you like are nearby as well. With 54% of Americans over 18 years of age drinking coffee every day, convenient coffee shops are a necessity for many working travelers.
  3. Establish a good remote workflow
Being in a new city, or even country presents many temptations to explore to your heart’s content and leave your work behind. However, to ensure that you keep your job you’ll need to set a routine and boundaries so that you are still productive in your nomadic environment. Make a clear schedule for yourself that includes work times and exploring times and stick to it. To stay on top of everything, be sure to factor in any time zone differences between you and your colleagues back home.
  4. Budget for the extra and hidden costs
While you’ll still be making money because you’re working, you’ll need to be mindful of hidden expenses adding up. As previously mentioned, you’ll likely be renting or using Airbnb to stay comfortable, both of which can be more expensive than a traditional hotel or hostel. Other factors, like transportation costs, restaurant bills, and every coffee you order at the nearby shop, can add up quickly and leave you with less spending money than you anticipated.
  5. Give yourself ample time to prepare
Before you adventure off to a new place with your laptop in hand, be sure that everything is in order. This is especially important for those taking extended trips. You’ll have to make sure that you’ve notified any supervisors and colleagues that you will be working remotely for a few months. You will also have to think about who is going to care for your home and any plants and pets you have there while you’re away. If you’re traveling internationally, make sure you’ve notified your bank, have a new SIM card for your phone, and that all of your documents for customs are in order.

It is entirely possible to have the best of both worlds and be able to work and play at the same time. With efficient planning and open communication, you will be able to join those you previously envied and post goal-worthy travel pictures on Instagram.

What’s New for Spring and Summer Travel at Busch Gardens

Still wondering what to do over spring break? Busch Gardens may be the perfect place. Thrill seekers, beach bums, animal lovers, foodies, concert enthusiasts, and those looking for a bit of everything can find it in the Tampa theme park. We got a taste of it two weeks ago when animal ambassadors and representatives from Busch Gardens Tampa Bay came to New York armed with VR headsets and a lively presentation to give us the latest scoop on all the new and exciting changes happening.

Rollercoaster lovers rejoice—Busch Gardens is an adrenaline lovers’ dream. Named the Coaster Capital, it offers some of the most adventurous rides in all of Florida. Opened in the summer of 2016, the Cobra’s Curse features a 30,000-pound snake with a 70-foot vertical lift that takes riders around 2,100 feet of snaking, spinning, and sometimes backward barreling tracks at 40mph. If your motto is “the faster, the better”, then Busch Gardens’ three-launch homage to the fastest land mammal, the Cheetah Hunt, is your ride. Appropriately starting at the Cheetah Run, guests speed through 4,400 feet of track at 60mph careening racing over bystanders and actual cheetahs.

For those looking to get in touch with their wild(life) side, spend some time getting to know the unique residents of one of America’s largest zoos. Against the backdrop of Times Square, we were introduced to Ringo the ring-tailed lemur, Peaches the cockatoo, Willow the wallaby, Emmett the screech owl, and two Madagascar tenrecs, Spike (pictured) and Star.

We learned a lot about these animals—for example, tenrecs, which are not to be mistaken for hedgehogs, are shy nocturnal insect eaters who can hang on trees upside down using tiny sharp claws. Emmett the owl was so engrossed in the M&M billboard across the way, it was hard to get his attention and have him turn his head back 270-degrees to face our cameras. Likewise, park guests can learn more about the animals, their habitats, and conservation efforts from the many experts in the park. Additionally, park goers can also opt for a safari experience on a 65-acre open-air vehicle on the Serengeti Plain. Through a VR experience, we got a feel for the 30-minute tour that allows you to hand-feed giraffes, spot rhinos, and drive along galloping antelopes and zebras. On top of that, be ready to see some seriously adorable baby animals. The park has recently experienced a baby boom with two new giraffes, sloths, and orangutans.

If all that sounds a lot and you’d rather take it easy with some food, drinks, and entertainment, the Food and Wine Festival returns with a selection of over 65 wines, 50+ craft beers and cocktails, and delectable cuisine all while watching musical acts. The Festival runs through April 29th and will feature acts such as TLC, Flo Rida, and Boyz II Men.

And of course, what would a visit to Florida be without a trip to the beach? Luckily, St. Petersburg Clearwater beach is just a few minutes away. With plenty of hotel partners that provide daily shuttles to Busch Gardens, you don’t really have to choose between thrills and relaxation.

For more watery fun, there’s also Adventure Island—Busch Garden’s sister water park filled with water-drenched fun, combining excitement with a soothing Key West vibe. New this year is Vanish Point, a 70-foot speed slide challenging park goers to choose from one of two skyboxes that will determine how they go down 425 feet of spiraling tubes. Adventure Island also has the wet and swirling Colossal Curl, a children’s playground, raging rapids, and cabanas to relax in.

Spring Break isn’t the only time to plan your Busch Gardens getaway, there are plenty of events and themes to check out all year round. Aside from the Food and Wine Festival, there will also be a Jack Hana weekend, extended summer hours (when you can ride coasters at night), a Guy Harvey weekend, Bierfest, Christmas Town, and so much more.

Hyatt Regency’s It’s Good Not to Be Home Campaign

Sometimes the best times are spent away from home. Away from your normal routine, your daily stress, so forth. We think a little escape is from your daily grind is an essential need. Whether you’re escaping for business or pleasure, the Hyatt Regency celebrates your escape with their It’s Good Not to Be Home campaign. A campaign that highlights all the reasons it’s good to get away from home and enjoy a few days at the Hyatt Regency. One of the first things we were told to do when we arrived was to exchange our shoes for a pair of plus Hyatt Regency bedroom slippers to be really comfortable during the event……we and several other guests happily complied.

hyatt_regency_innovation_reveal_event_www-mylifeonandofftheguestlist-com hyatt_regency_innovation_reveal_event5_www-mylifeonandofftheguestlist-com

This fall, the Hyatt Regency asked travelers to share their ideas on how to make their business travel experiences and time away from home even better. Now in its second year, “It’s Good Not to Be Home” was created from the very true concept that as much as we like to be home, we humans love and enjoy the freedom to break away from our normal routine while traveling. These innovations, dreamed up by business travelers, will be used for inspiration for future Hyatt Regency experiences and amenities.

hyatt_regency_innovation_reveal_event6_www-mylifeonandofftheguestlist-com hyatt_regency_innovation_reveal_event2_www-mylifeonandofftheguestlist-comhyatt_regency_innovation_reveal_event8_www-mylifeonandofftheguestlist-com

Those experiences were debuted at the Hyatt Regency event held at their Jersey City location. The first being Personal trainer Gunnar Peterson’s and James Beard Award-winning pastry chef and Cronut creator Dominique Ansel’s in-room food and fitness routine, encouraging guests to stay fit and eat a balanced meal to be and remain productive during their trip; and the second is Fashion designer Cynthia Rowley pairing up with tech mogul and businesswoman Randi Zuckerberg to create an on-the-go beauty bar where guests can relax, reset, and indulge.

hyatt_regency_innovation_reveal_event7_www-mylifeonandofftheguestlist-com hyatt_regency_innovation_reveal_event3_www-mylifeonandofftheguestlist-com

Attendees of the event had a chance to partake in those experiences, previewing what Hyatt Regency guests will soon enjoy as future Hyatt Regency amenities at all their locations. Thanks to this event, we had the wonderful opportunity to meet and speak with Designer Cynthia Rowley, enjoy an almost unlimited supply of delicious Cronuts, and enjoy a little Hyatt Regency swag

The event was incredibly amazing and we really did not want to go home. The Hyatt Regency made it really difficult to leave the event. The bar was flowing, the food was amazing, almost all of our wishes were fulfilled, constant pampering, no dishes had to be done, so why would we want to go home? Take it from us when we say if you’re traveling soon, let the Hyatt Regency show you why it’s good not to be home.

Urban Oasis: W New York’s Extreme Wow Outdoor Glamping Suite

When we were younger, we considered ourselves the outdoorsy type. Then again as children, we wanted nothing more than the freedom to run. Today, we’re happy with a view of the city and a glass of something tasty. However, we sometimes get brief pangs of exploring and discovering the outdoors, but then we remember the lack of comforts. This had us thinking, how can we relive the wonder of the outdoors with our love of comfortable surroundings…….in the city? The W New York Hotel, located at 541 Lexington Avenue, actually gave us the answer with their new Extreme Wow Outdoor Glamping Suite. It’s the perfect solution for those who want to enjoy a bit of the outdoors, without losing the comfort.

Travel With Us: Mount Airy Casino Resort in the Poconos Mountains

If you’re a child of the late 80’s then you certainly remember those famed commercials for “beautiful Mount Airy Lodge”, where all you had to bring was your love of everything. Today’s Mount Airy Casino Resort is still beautiful and just like before, wants you to bring your love of everything, from gambling, to luxurious spa treatments, your foodie appetites, love of concerts, worldly music and performances, and your love of giveaways. We had the pleasure of a wonderful and much-needed weekend escape to Mount Airy Casino Resort, located in the picturesque Poconos Mountains, right after NYFW (we had an amazing view of the frozen lake outside our window).

If you’re expecting to see the old Mount Airy from the old commercials, you will be very wrong, the original Mount Airy Lodge which closed in 2001, was completely torn down, and the new Mount Airy Casino Resort was built from scratch. The old honeymoon hideaway is gone and has made way to be a family-friendly casino resort. The only thing that remains of the old Mount Airy, is the name. Gone are the heart-shaped tubs, floor-to-ceiling mirrors, velvet canopy beds, and the other old remnants the old hotel was known for. What replaces the old decor are modern design elements that are both stunningly elegant and rustic. The hotel’s interior boasts boldly stated panache that’s breathtaking to behold. Every bit of design detail was personally chosen by the new family of owners, who are obviously blessed with great taste.

From its architectural influences, cubism-inspired design details, its mix of rugged and glamorous embellishments (we especially love the stunning crystal chandelier directly over the stone waterfall in the lobby), stunning, spacious bathrooms, and plush pillow-top beds, one can’t help but fall in love with the resort’s modern and sophisticated decor. Our Deluxe King room (pictured below) was exquisitely decorated with subtle tones and hues that beautifully played up the various prints and patterns of its decor.

Deluxe-King

As we stated before, the Mount Airy Casino Resort is a family-friendly casino, but if you don’t like to gamble, or if you’re not yet of age, there’s so much to enjoy. A feature we particularly enjoyed at the resort was that the gambling areas didn’t encroach on the other available amenities. There’s no threat of hearing the telltale noises of slot machines and other gambling noises to disturb you from enjoying the amazing food from Mount Airy’s onsite restaurants, the wonderful, full-service spa, the Xanadu-esque Get Wet pool area, golf, horseback trail riding, and skiing. In fact, once you are away from the gambling areas, you’d swear you were just at a wonderful We completely indulged our foodie souls at Mount Airy. The hotel’s main restaurants include the upscale Bistecca by Il Mulino (pictured below), casual Guy Fieri’s Mt. Pocono Kitchen, the Pan-Asian Lucky 8 Noodle + Sushi Bar, and The Buffet (pictured below).

Bistecca-Indoor Buffet-image-final

Our favorite foodie escape was Bistecca by Il Mulino, a world-class Italian restaurant where we indulged in the most decadent and unforgettable meal. We’re still relishing in the memory of the flavorful Grilled Octopus with White Beans and Tomato appetizer, delicious handcrafted cocktails, and the perfection that was the Capellini Ai Frutti di Mare.

Bistecca_by_Il_Mulino_Dinner_www.mylifeonandofftheguestlist.com

No matter the season, lounging in one of the Get Wet private luxury cabanas (which boast day beds and televisions) or dipping into the heated, 51,000 square foot, indoor/outdoor Get Wet Pool, Bar & Nightlife is a wonderful way to enjoy a care-free day or enjoy some after-dark entertainment when the sun goes down. You can enjoy a drink or some light dining while you relax inside or relish in the scenic views of the resort’s lake and golf course on the outdoor deck.

Inside-Day_4C Outside-Night_4C

For those of your who need a bit more in the way of relaxation, the resort’s Spa and Salon will finish you with an afternoon or early evening (the spa closes at 8 pm Mon-Sat) of luxurious pampering, which includes massages, nail and body treatments, hair and makeup, spray tanning, etc. We had the pleasure in indulging in the Mount Airy Signature Massage which left our muscles feeling wonderfully relaxed and tension-free. The 55-min massage exactly what was needed to relieve the stress from the craziness of NYFW.

R1_IMG_5632

Our weekend escape ended with a night full of fun-filled entertainment at the onsite nightclub, Gypsies Lounge, where we were treated to a night of Vietnamese pop music. The eye-catching nightclub offers a vast array of entertainment including singers, dance performances, comedy shows, and celebrity appearances and performances, as you sip on cocktails or dance the night away. Upcoming shows include Sinbad, Berlinda Carlisle, Gilbert Gottfried, Richard Marx, and Gary Owen.

Those who prefer to enjoy their drinks on the gambling floor or are looking for a place to “pre-game” can do so at The Glass Bar, centrally located right in the middle of the Mount Airy Casino Resort floor. If you rather gamble on your golf game, the famed Mount Airy Golf Course will officially open for the season on March 21st, 2016. *Quick golf side note, the PGA of America celebrates its Centennial this year and a round or two of golf is a great way to not only enjoy the outdoors but playing the game has amazing health and wellness benefits. The Mount Airy course was inspired by Sports Illustrated’s “Best 18 Holes in America”, the course is known for its distance drives and 6,500 yards of manicured greens.

Golf_006 Golf_005

Before and/or after your golf game, relax in the Mount Airy course’s clubhouse, Drinks & Links, and the Golf Pro Shop. Enjoy the clubhouse’s full-service bar, restaurant and lounge amenities: outdoor deck overlooking the Pocono Mountains, state-of-the-art locker room, and shower facility, and the pro shop’s full selection of apparel, clubs and accessories, book a golf lesson or a group outing, or just do like we did and just enjoy walking the grounds taking in its beauty.

We truly enjoyed our weekend at the Mount Airy Casino Resort, it was a wonderful experience. We can’t wait to revisit the resort again sometime during the summer to either enjoy their July 4th festivities or one of their outdoor celebrity concerts. If you’re planning on any weekend getaways or extended trips away, we recommend adding the Mount Airy Casino Resort in the Poconos Mountains. Whether you’re a gambler, golfer, or foodie, you’ll enjoy every moment.

Community Coffee’s Top 10 Tips to Enjoy Mardi Gras 2016

Are you heading to New Orleans for Mardi gras next month? We’ve teamed up with our favorite Louisiana coffee to bring you a top ten list of tips and trick to fully enjoy your Mardi Gras experience in honor of the return of their Mardi Gras-inspired flavored coffee, Community Coffee Mardi Gras King Cake Coffee.

Community Coffee Mardi Gras King Cake coffee

If you’ll be in New Orleans to partake in the carnival festivities, this is the perfect time for some insider tips on the celebrations. Did you know the origins of Mardi Gras in New Orleans can be traced to medieval Europe? The revelry passed through Rome and Venice to evolve into the ornately costumed festivities we see and enjoy today. There’s a lot of tradition and heritage that have helped shaped the Mardi Gras scene into its current celebrated state, and we want to make sure you all there is to have a fully immersive and wonderful time. Without further ado, here are our top ten good things to know to enjoy Mardi Gras like a New Orleans native:

  • Number 10
How to spell “krewe” and “flambeaux” and “Mardi Gras” and, well, you get the point.
  • Number 9
Technically, Carnivale is a season, and Mardi Gras is a day. But New Orleans tend to generalize and refer to the weeks of parades leading up to Fat Tuesday as Mardi Gras.
  • Number 8
The Mardi Gras colors are purple, green and gold. Remember to coordinate your outfit appropriately.
  • Number 7
The Captain of the Krewe is more important than the King. But the King gets all the glory while the Captain does all the work.
  • Number 6
If you miss a doubloon thrown from a float, never reach down to pick it up. Always put your foot on it. If you go with your hand, you’re either too late or you’ll get your fingers stepped on.
  • Number 5
If you bite into a plastic baby in a King Cake, that’s a good thing.
  • Number 4
Any beads shorter than two feet long are unacceptable unless they are made of glass — the bigger and longer the beads, the better.
  • Number 3
Once any beads have touched the ground, they are sullied and should not be picked up unless under the rarest of circumstances.
  • Number 2
The vast majority of people in the French Quarter during Carnivale are from out of town.
  • Number 1
The Number 1 thing you must know about Mardi Gras season is that Community Coffee Mardi Gras King Cake coffee hits the shelves. We suggest you celebrate with the “king” of all flavored coffees, the delicious Mardi Gras King Cake coffee with light vanilla and cinnamon flavoring. For a limited time you can have your cake … and drink it, too.

Airfordable.co

Air travel can be quite expensive, and without any real options aside from extensive saving and praying to the travel gods for decent and discounted airfares, we had no real solution to getting the vacation we desired, at a price we could afford…..until Airfordable.co. No longer will you be at the mercy of a horrible airline just to hopefully get to enjoy your trip, especially as a frustrating experience can ruin your entire vacation. With airfares ever increasing, and our need to escape our daily lives every once in a while, Airfordable.co is the answer, but don’t take our word for it, see for yourself.

Airforable.co Stories

So how does Airfordable work? Very much like a department store layaway plan. Simply search for your flight dates on any airline or air travel website (we must note there’s a $2000 price per flight cap on airfare), grab a screenshot of your proposed trip, upload it to the Airfordable website, and they will show you payment plan options. Once you’ve selected your payment plan, just pay 30% of the cost of the air travel as a deposit, and pay the balance in the installment schedule you’ve chosen. Just as with department store layaways, once your final payment is complete, you will receive your e-ticket.

This is especially wonderful for those who don’t want to put the cost of the trip on a credit card. You enjoy a flexible payment plan with no credit check and no incurred interest fees like you would using a credit card, so there’s no buyer’s remorse when your credit card bill comes. Another great thing about Airfordable is if the price of your airfare drops before you’ve secured your seat, they will split the savings 50/50 and your portion becomes an Airfordable credit that you can use towards your next flight on any airline. what more can you ask for!

We’re ready to begin planning our dream vacation, what about you? Where can Airfordable help you travel to?
