We’re sure you are quite familiar with the name Duncan Hines, they have been helping us bake delicious cakes for various occasions for decades. We’ve personally baked and enjoyed numerous Duncan Hines flavors including Classic chocolate, Lemon Supreme, Pineapple Supreme, Red Velvet, etc. In fact the Duncan Hines Red Velvet is one of our favorites and we’ve been guilty of enjoying more than a slice or two in one sitting. This is why we were so excited to see their newest flavor additions – Signature Pink Velvet, Signature Blue Velvet, and Decadent Salted Caramel Brownies mixes.

Say Cheese | Gourmet & Artisan Cheese Favorites

We are the type to sit down with a platter of cheese and crackers and be completely content. We have actually this entertainment platter as breakfast, lunch and a few times dinner. It is an enjoyable and very satisfying meal, one which of course is owed all to the cheese you use. Once you start with a great gourmet or artisan cheese, nothing else matters. Today we share three of our favorite artisan cheese brands, Roth Cheese, Sartori Cheese, and Chavrie Cheese, that we love to snack on, entertain with and prepare delicious dishes with.

Roth Cheese

A recent introduction to us, we’re finding ourselves adding the award-winning Roth Cheese selections to our rotation of toasted sandwiches. Last year Roth Cheese took home 24 awards and they are sure to continue taking home honors with the introduction of three new flavored Raclette cheeses: Roasted Garlic, 5 Peppercorn and Mediterranean. Raclette, a delicious Swiss tradition, is perfect for melting. This mild but very flavorful cheese boasts a delicious creamy texture, making it the perfect choice to bring bold flavor to recipes and dishes that call for melted cheese. Satori Cheese

Sartori Cheese is an old favorite that we have loved for quite a while – we’ve even shared our obsession with Satori. Chavrie Cheese

The Chavrie® Cheese brand is another one that we’ve enjoyed, especially while at events. They offers a variety of fresh, gluten-free and Kosher-certified goat cheeses. While we’ve quite familiar with the creamy original Pyramid, we were completely blown away by the introduction of the Caramelized Onion Pyramid. and the Sweet Basil Pyramid practically has a cult following. The sweet flavor of the caramelized onions blended exquisitely with Chavrie’s creamy goat cheese. We have also found ourselves slightly obsessing over the delicious taste of sundried tomatoes, savory garlic, and parsley that is the Sundried Tomato and Garlic Log. Introduced to the United States in 1989, Chavrie all natural fresh goat cheese is based on a classic French recipe and is created from the milk of local Amish farmers in the lush farmlands of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Culinary Delight | Village Voice’s Choice Eats Annual Tasting Event Recap

Culinary heaven thy name is the Village Voice’s Choice Eats. We had the immense pleasure of indulging in some of the most delicious and eclectic range of unlimited culinary delights from some of the most well-known and hidden gem restaurants New York has to offer. This year, 84 restaurants from the 5 boroughs participated in this year’s food bonanza that offered food varieties from over 35 countries, to an audience of 3,000 people. For us the event started an hour earlier in the VIP Lounge located in the upstairs level of Basketball City. We had the opportunity to spoil ourselves in some decadent noshes.

Ten restaurants were in the VIP Lounge, which was sponsored by Stella Artois. The Belgium beer flowed as we enjoyed fare from Carlo’s Bakery, Mrs. Dorsey’s Kitchen, Grandaisy Bakery, Doughnut Plant, Juliette, Rosamunde Sausage Grill, Morgan’s Brooklyn Barbeque, La Slowteria, Pickle Shack, and Clarke’s Standard. Our favorites from the VIP Lounge included the amazing Red Velvet Cake from Carlo’s Bakery, a delight everyone must experience, just about everything from Doughnut Plant, the grilled sausages from Rosamunde’s Sausage Grill, and the Sweet Grill Cheese from Mrs. Dorsey’s Kitchen.

On the main floor, attendees were more than happy with the unlimited wine, beer, and spirits tastings from local brewers as they sampled barbecue, seafood, vegetarian dishes, dessert, and everything in between. And although it was very crowded, we did get to enjoy quite a bit, so much so that we’ve added a few restaurants to our “must dine” list. Maima’s Liberian Bistro brought us back to our love of spicy exotic fare, you can’t not love Luke’s Lobster, the ribs from Martha Brooklyn melted in our mouths, while Devi NYC and The Kati Roll Company wowed us with their vegetarian choices, and Charles’ Country Pan Fried Chicken gave us the soul food we’ve been missing. On the sweet side, we’ve been craving Ample Hills Creamery‘s Gather ‘Round the Campfire ice cream, and Fay Da Bakery‘s Mango Cake and bubble tea.

When it was time to head on to cocktails, it seemed an unlimited supply was in store for every person. Whether you prefered vodka, Gin, Bourbon, wine, et al, this event was beyond prepared to keep the libations flowing.

The Village Voice also announced the return of their next foodie event, the third annual “Choice Streets” Food Truck Tasting Event, set to be held on Wednesday, May 7th from 7:00 – 11:00 PM (Rain Date: May 9th). Set amid the backdrop of the New York Landmark – Pier 86 of The Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum – attendees will feast and enjoy an evening of fabulous food and drinks with an amazing view of New York City.

Nicki Minaj Launches Swimwear Collection

Nicki Minaj has expanded her collection for Kmart to include swimwear. Just in time for the warmer weather, the fashionable and extroverted rapper/singer adds swimwear styles that, like her, are bold, sexy and statement-makers. The small collection introduces five swimsuit styles, three of which are featured below. They are reminiscent of the hot pink Herve Leger swimsuit she recently wore in her High School music video – very much her style and personality.

featuring sexy cut-outs, color blocking and silhouettes that celebrate and showcase the woman’s body, you can clearly see that she loves everything sexy and is not afraid to say that. Pure speculation on our part, or maybe hope, but we’re going to believe the other two swimwear styles are two-pieces swimsuits. We’re sure to be seeing the Barbz rocking these styles this summer.
