Celebrating Food Trucks | The NYC Vendy Awards

As I mentioned before, Fashion Week wasn’t the only event I attended. Along with the Bar and Restaurant Buying Show, I also had the pleasure of enjoying the 9th Annual Vendy Awards thanks to Tide. What are the Vendy Awards? It is essentially a celebration of the best food trucks have to offer. The Vendy Awards is New York City’s premier street food competition, an annual event to benefit the Street Vendor Project at the Urban Justice Center, a membership-based organization that provides advocacy and legal services for more than 1,500 vendor members.

The Vendys featured some of the city’s most beloved food trucks going head-to-head in a cook-off to determine the winners in a variety of cuisines: Best Dessert, Rookie of the Year, Best of New Jersey, Best Market Vendor, The People’s Taste Award, and the top prize, the Vendy Cup, which was decided by a panel of celebrity judges. The best part, as an attendee, you had the opportunity to enjoy and indulge in everything – it is a foodie’s paradise.

This year, Tide sponsored the event and hosted its own award the “Messy yet Tasty” award and brought its “Stainbulance” to the event to help solve stain emergencies on-site with a supply of Tide to Go (with all the barbecues, sauces, ice creams, etc, Tide was the perfect sponsor and was called upon many times to remove stains).

This was awarded to the truck with the most mouthwatering, messy fare – Home by the Range, who offers local, fresh and organic chicken, beef and pork from farms in the tri-state area in delicious sandwiches such as the Jersey Cow (braised chuck roast with Milton Creamery Prairie Breeze white cheddar), New Porker (Pastured pork butt marinated in a herbal wet rub and slow roasted) and the Chicken Little (Pastured chicken confit (in an olive/canola oil blend) mixed with fresh herbs and organic cranberries).

I truly hope I can attend this event again next year and I call upon everyone, whether you enjoy food from street vendors or not, to attend this amazingly decadent and gluttonous event at least once – you won’t regret it.
