The Contemporary Asian Art Fair

Let me start by saying this event was before my trip to Japan.

In honor of my trip, I attend two Asian events, the Japan C Event and this one – The Asian Art Fair. I figured since I was going to Tokyo, I might as well familiarize myself with some of the artwork. Dave and I had quite a few events to attend to that night, we were also going to coordinate with Kim and Allison.

When we first arrived at the Asian Art Fair, which was held at Pier 92 at The Chelsea Piers, we several people in traditional dress. First there were men in uniform and women in traditional Asian dresses who were kind enough to allow us to take their photos

After that, Dave and I set out to immerse ourselves into the artwork. I will showcase some of my favorites. The first piece we saw was this collage called My Things by Hong Hao of Tokyo

Next up are these two beautiful pieces made from industrial paint on canvas called One and Whole and Relation by Shigeno Ichimura

Then we saw these interesting photographs – Flying # 18 & 20 by Sachigusa Yasuda

Halfway between the vast space (seriously this place was really, really huge, like two warehouses huge), we come to the real life exhibit, meaning living breathing art in the form of Asian inspired fashions on display

but my favorite piece of all was this

It is a Porcelain Cups/Saucers Dress by Li Xiaofeng @ Red Gate Gallery. It is made entirely of shards of porcelin – gorgeous, right?

One of the last few pieces we saw were these by Ran Hwang made from buttons and pins

here’s a closeup

and this, also by Ran Hwang made from thread and pins

and here’s the closeup

I will leave you with photos of various other artwork I took photos of

and finally the giftbag wich includes a book with photos and information on all the pieces freatured
