Norman Ambrose Fall/Winter 2011 Collection

This season, I decided to embrace a few of the designers I’m not familiar with and give my blog a little change from the rotation of repeating designers I’ve seemed to of gotten myself into, so I gladly requested an invitation to Norman Ambrose’s presentation. As I was not familiar with his collection or design aesthetic, I did have any expectations, just an open mind. As I walked in, my mind immediately went to vintage glamour. The presentation set up was easy – day and night or maybe better labeled as work and play. The day/work looks featured wool and Angora suits, lamb suede and alpaca coats, hand knit cashmere cardigans, pencil skirts, chemise and shift dresses and fox fur dyed in various colors. I couldn’t help but think of legends Lauren Bacall and Ingrid Bergman.

The night/play looks were naturally more glam – there was more fur (a lot more fur), daring sheers, lots of sparkle and bold femininity. This collection featured a heavy does of old world sophistication and decadence – think of the richest slice of chocolate cake you can imagine – that would describe Norman Ambrose’s Fall 2011 collection
