Our New York Fashion Week is off to a great and stunning start thanks to the gorgeous pieces we saw at the Rubin Singer Fall 2016 Presentation. The relationship between Mathematics and architecture have always existed, one cannot function without the other, so it was no surprise when fashion designer Rubin Singer’s inspiration (he’s known for his architectural femininity) for his Fall 2016 Collection was inspired by the mathematical formulation “Homomorphism”, the “structure-preserving map between two algebraic structures”, in layman’s terms, “all formulas end up in the same form or shape no matter how many time you change it”.
For his fall 2016 collection, Rubin Singer looked to the separates, day dresses, and dramatic evening gowns of late 60’s and early 70’s (the Fall 2016 collection saw the debut of knitwear and more ready-to-wear separates, a continuation of Singer’s Spring 2016 looks). The collection’s geometric shapes and silhouettes perfectly give voice to the inspiration to this season’s collection.
There are so many reasons to fall under the spell of the Rubin Singer Fall 2016 collection, “multi-directional silk chiffon dresses, glass embroidered eveningwear, and duchess satin jackets continue to show Rubin’s technical use of classic fabrics.” Bold prints, new shapes, new and exotic fabrics, textures and colors, touches of Indian lamb, python, and velvet added to the collection’s sophisticated and dramatic silhouettes, which ranged from polished and chic, to voluminous and billowing shapes.
As you can probably tell, we had several favorites from this collection, including the Metallic Hexagon Jacquard Blouse & Pant, with Double Face Geometric, Wool, Leather Bound Hooded Vest, Black Embroidered Feather & Basketweave Jacket and Short, and the Black / White Linear Jacquard Jacket and Short. we find ourselves loving the bold expressions of this designer who is skyrocketing to a fashion design favorite of celebrity stylists and editors. His designs have already graced the lovely frames of such celebrities as Beyoncé (remember her 2013 Super Bowl half-time show costume), Lucy Liu, Heidi Klum, Alicia Keys, we’re sure this list will continue to grow.
