Dama Fortuna Tequila: A Fusion of Scotch and Mexican Artistry

Dama Fortuna Tequila: A Fusion of Scotch and Mexican Artistry

There’s a new spirit on the scene, and it’s bringing a bit of luck, a lot of flavor, and a deep respect for tradition. Shand Import, LLC is thrilled to introduce Dama Fortuna, Spanish for “Lady Luck”, a handcrafted, small-batch tequila that blends old-world tequila craftsmanship with a fresh, approachable spirit. Their debut release, Dama Fortuna Blanco Tequila, is an 80-proof premium blanco made with 100% Blue Weber Agave and priced accessibly at $45.99 for a 750ml bottle.

Dama Fortuna isn’t just another tequila; it’s the result of a passion project fueled by industry veterans with more than 100 years of combined experience. Euan Shand, a longtime name in the Scotch whisky world, brings his legacy to tequila, along with his wife, Moji, and partner Peter Currie. Together, they traveled to Guadalajara, toured distilleries, and connected with local producers before landing at Casa Loy (NOM 1633), in the hills of Ayotlán, Jalisco.

Crafted using traditional methods, including brick oven cooking, open-air fermentation, and double distillation, this non-chill-filtered blanco is made from fully mature agave grown on a single, high-altitude estate. The result? A clean, smooth tequila with layered aromas of sweet agave, black pepper, and citrus, followed by a rich mouthfeel with hints of chocolate, earth, spice, and a touch of honey on the finish.

On the nose, Dama Fortuna opens with a subtle sweetness and agave freshness, evolving into hints of black pepper and bright citrus. The palate offers a creamy mouthfeel with chocolate notes, transitioning to earthy agave and wood spice. The lingering finish delivers honeyed sweetness and a playful touch of sea salt, a refined and balanced spirit, ideal for sipping or mixing.

Founder Euan Shand is no stranger to the world of fine spirits. Raised in the Scotch whisky tradition and former head of Duncan Taylor, Ltd., Euan brings decades of experience to this new venture. In 2023, Shand, his wife Moji, and partner Peter Currie explored Guadalajara and its distilleries, inspired by both the beauty of Mexican agave spirits and the potential to innovate aging techniques using premium oak barrels.

Dama Fortuna was also born out of Euan’s passion for motor racing, particularly the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The brand’s logo, a whimsical nod to a house of cards, ties in a Bond-style theme with their signature cocktail, the “Miss Fortune,” a tequila twist on the Vesper, created by Erik Lund of Messhall Kitchen in Los Feliz, CA.
