Backstage w/ Kevyn Aucoin at Clover Canyon Fall 2014 Collection

I got the opportunity to go backstage with Kevyn Aucoin, an iconic beauty brand, during New York Fashion Week for two shows, Clover Canyon and KaufmanFranco (separate post coming soon). I always love the brand’s fashion week looks because they execute a “glam” face in a very effortless way.

The Face

Lead makeup artist Deanna Melluso created a look to accompany the green-grassy themes showcased in the collection. The eye was accomplished with an eyeshadow in Citrine and Essential Eye Palette #4. Rose lip balm was applied over the citrine eyeshadow to create a glossy eye.

For the skin, she used the liquid airbrush foundation over the primed skin developer. On the cheeks there is a mixture of two colors, The creamy Glow in Patrice and Duo/Bloodroses along with highlighter. The lips were also a mixture of two Kevyn Aucoin colors in Bloodroses and Dantrice to create a wine lip color.

The Hair

The hair was curled into pin curls for volume and then swept back into a wispy french braid-chignon hybrid.

The Nails

The nails executed beautifully by the Morgan Taylor Team are a custom blend of two of their colors Later Alligator and Little Black Dress.

Kevyn Aucoin Backstage at Clover Canyon Spring 2014 Collection

Kevyn Aucoin was all about delivering a fresh face with slight pink accents backstage for Clover Canyon’s Spring/Summer 2014 Presentation led by head Makeup Artist, Deanna Melluso. The skin was prepped with a cream product with a vaseline-like formulation, which makeup Artist Adam Fleishauer said it was ideal to give the foundation something to cling to. Kevyn Aucoin’s The Sensual Skin Tinted Balm was used to deliver that fresh skin look; using clean hands, the balm was pressed into the skin .

The thicker, more fuller coverage of the Sensual Skin Enhancer was used to spot treat areas of the face that needed more coverage. A Creamy Glow cheek color in Tansoleil was applied to the cheeks. The pop of pink on the eye is The Flesh Tone Lip Pencil, in Peche, a to be released in Spring 2014 product. Mascara was applied to the bottom lashes only. For the lips, Kevyn Aucoin’s matte lip color in Timeless was applied with Reyna lipgloss in the middle.

Backstage at Clover Canyon Spring 2013 with imPRESS Nails

Welcome again, my illustrious backstage beauty contributor, Laura F, as she takes us behind the scenes with imPRESS Press-On Manicure at Clover Canyon’s Spring 2013 show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week:

There used to be a time when press on nails were considered, tacky, for lack of a better word; they usually came as the standard french manicure nail in overtly square nail shapes, that were not malleable at all. What you saw in the packaging was exactly what you got. Now It’s a well known fact among the beauty industry that the nail sector is booming, which is most likely due to the insurgence of the nail art phenomenon. Riding on that wave is the upgraded press on nail.

For Clover Canyon’s S/S 2013 collection lead manicurist Gina Edwards for imPRESS Press-On Manicure by Broadway Nails, chose an “understated nail” color called High Hopes to complement the colorful looks in the collection. It is a pale, opaque pink shade that says “my nails can be simple but still fab!”

imPRESS Press-On Maniocue is incredible simple to apply. Their advice is to make sure that the nail bed is thoroughly cleaned to ensure the press on will stick to the nail for the maximum amount of time (imPRESS ensures nails will last up to a week). I also like how easy it is to shape these nails with a file. Goodbye to the horribly square press on nail of the nineties. Edwards chose the more updated rounded shape for Clover Canyon.

Hair and makeup for Clover Canyon was dramatized mostly by the strong brow shape and the sharply contoured cheek. The hair was a structured chignon ponytail coif.
