Get a Facelift at Home w/ Myotone® Facial Toning System

When my editor, Glasgow, sent me an email with the assignment to try out the new Myotone® Facial Toning System, I did a quick happy dance in front of my computer. Innovative skincare technology is my thing. I traveled to the Luminique MedSpa in lower Manhattan to get a personal demonstration from a Myotone® specialist. The handheld device is a non-invasive way to encourage an increase in skin elasticity. It also smooths lines, wrinkles and texture irregularities. Using this device several minutes per day (much like a Clarisonic) can keep one looking lifted and youthful. It is also designed to complement any surgical work you may have had as well. I’m sure the thought ran across your mind that current + handheld device = electric shock, but no, that did not happen.

The device has three toning levels but it’s not something you can feel. My Myotonologist added a mixture of a gel and serum to my skin to help diffuse the current (much like the gel used when you go to get a sonogram, only this one is good for your skin). You feel the device on your face but the two metal pieces aid in providing a massage ball-like effect and it’s calming. My specialist, Geoff, also applied the product to my neck as well since as we age, our decolletage area is the first to give into gravity. Overall having the treatment done was a pleasant experience and my skin was glowing afterwards. In terms of fine lines and wrinkles waning (I don’t have much to start with), you can’t say after just one application. Although, in the two days after, my skin is still glowing. What do you think? Are you a believer in microcurrent facial devices? Do we even know what they are? Sound off in the comments below!

Kevyn Aucoin Backstage at Clover Canyon Spring 2014 Collection

Kevyn Aucoin was all about delivering a fresh face with slight pink accents backstage for Clover Canyon’s Spring/Summer 2014 Presentation led by head Makeup Artist, Deanna Melluso. The skin was prepped with a cream product with a vaseline-like formulation, which makeup Artist Adam Fleishauer said it was ideal to give the foundation something to cling to. Kevyn Aucoin’s The Sensual Skin Tinted Balm was used to deliver that fresh skin look; using clean hands, the balm was pressed into the skin .

The thicker, more fuller coverage of the Sensual Skin Enhancer was used to spot treat areas of the face that needed more coverage. A Creamy Glow cheek color in Tansoleil was applied to the cheeks. The pop of pink on the eye is The Flesh Tone Lip Pencil, in Peche, a to be released in Spring 2014 product. Mascara was applied to the bottom lashes only. For the lips, Kevyn Aucoin’s matte lip color in Timeless was applied with Reyna lipgloss in the middle.

Elizabeth Arden Red Door Spa Backstage at Brandon Sun Spring 2014 Show

It’s always a pleasure to join the Elizabeth Arden Red Door Spa team backstage at New York Fashion Week. Collectively, the team always delivers amazing beauty looks that can be considered wearable for the everyday woman. For this season, Brandon Sun needed a beauty look that was a mixture of an sophisticated uptown look with the casual deluxe grunge look of downtown.

The Hair: Zahir Ziani, National Creative Director and Master Hair Stylist for Red Door Spa
For Brandon Sun, the hair was swept back into a tousled bun or teased coiff that was not too neat to offset the very put-together pieces in the collection.

The Face: Cesar Olivas, Makeup Artist for Red Door Spa
A natural look, with an emphasis on a nice brow matte face and subtle eyes, mascara free eyes.

The Nails: Adeline Sarino, National Training Director of Nails for Red Door Spa
A drastic matte ombre look using shades of grey to mimic the” look and movement” of the luxe fur in the Brandon Sun collection.

Influencers Style Runway Looks at the StyleList x NMRKT Spring 2014 Show

Normally bloggers and editors get invited to the most coveted fashion shows to view the latest collections that designers send down the runways. Based on what they see, these same bloggers and editors choose what they want to write about and what pieces will make it onto their trend lists. StyleList X NMRKT switched it up a bit and put twenty bloggers and editors into the role of stylist and allowed them to send their own interpretations of what Spring/Summer 2014 might look like down the runway. You can “meet” StyleList’s stylists HERE. While style is subjective, I think the chosen twenty did a great job capturing an essence of what spring and summer will look like from a street style perspective. My personal four favorite looks were the following:

Backstage w/ Elizabeth Arden Red Door Spa at Emerson & Brandon Sun Fall 2013

Emerson Backstage Fall 2013

In summation the hair backstage at Emerson could be described in two words: effortlessly glam. The hair was a traditional low pony tail but to “zhoosh” it up, Elizabeth Arden Red Door Spa’s National Creative Director and Master Stylist, Zahir Ziani, added a little texture (with a curling iron) and height (think teased volume) to get the effortless glam look. Zahir held the pony sans rubber bands to avoid creases in the hair by wrapping the ponytail with a thin piece of hair and secured with a bobby pin.

Brandon Sun Fall 2013

Master Stylist Zahir Ziani, and the Red Door Spa’s beauty of created an updated bohemian look backstage at Brandon Sun Fall 2013. The hair was a juxtaposition of a low bun in the back and a center part and breathless waves in the front. The Resistance Double Force by Kerastase helped created texture for the tousled look of the bun.

In keeping with the “boho glam” look of the hair, the makeup overall was natural but key aspects glamed it up, mostly the bold eyebrows and clean skin. Key products to achieve this look were Elizabeth Arden Pure Finish Mineral Tinted Moisturizer, and Elizabeth Arden Beautiful Color Eye Shadow in Shimmering Copper, Bellini, and Truffle.

Venexiana Fall 2013 Collection

I wrote about backstage at Venexiana Fall 2013 collection where the beautiful side twist french rolls and glamorous smokey eyes were the focus, now I eagerly bring you the details on what occurred in the front of the house. The clothes from the Venexiana Fall 2013 collection were a glamour girl’s dream come true with nothing short of 76 couture looks floating down the runway to choose from.

Kati Stern’s gift is in the details; while each piece oozed personality, whether the fabric of choice was velvet with crystals or lace with crystals, they were all reminiscent of each other which made for a cohesive collection.

Even the color palette of the Venexiana Fall 2013 collection, although varied, all were in the metallic, deep gemstone range, reflecting light in different ways. Overall, it was a strong collection with lots of sexy silhouettes and beautiful metallic colors.

Alon Livne Fall 2013 Collection

Seeing Alon Livne’s Fall 2013 collection in person was, for lack of a better word, moving. Although the color palette did not deviate from black, Livne added different textures, beaded decals, and materials to set each look apart, as well as geometric cutouts and shiny black hardware that jutted out of the clean silhouettes of the clothes.

All of these different elements, as well as the star trek-like head pieces on each model, gave off the foreshadowing feeling that this will be the norm for glamorous and elegant clothing in the next fifty to one hundred years. Overall it was refreshing and a pleasant surprise to be able to view this collection.

Per-fekt Beauty Backstage at Alon Livne Fall 2013

Clean, beautiful skin was the name of the game for Per-fekt Beauty backstage at Alon Livne’s Fall 2013 Collection Show, under the direction of lead makeup artist Susan Hallili. To achieve this look, Per-fekt Skin Perfecting Gel was applied to the models faces. As a departure from typical complexion products, the Skin Perfecting Gel does in one product what a primer, foundation, color corrector and finishing powder would do all together. Its gel-mousse formula and sheer color pigments help for it to apply to the face smoothly while providing coverage.

The eyes were kept monochromatic with a muted gunmetal shadow custom- made by the brand’s founder, Richard Anderson. The Cheek and Lip perfection gels were applied to the respective areas in the colors bronze and melrose, respectively.
