Celebrity Makeup Artist, Tina Turnbow was on hand to give tutorials on ways to wear the three new Burt’s Bees Lip Shimmers and offer tips and tricks on getting the most out of all the twelve luminescent shades – my favorite tip? Layering two or three shades to create new tones
“Marie Claire has always believed in the importance of personal style, drive, and ambition. We’re launching this exciting opportunity because we know that young women in this life stage are making their mark on the world in a variety of ways. We want to give them the tools to do it with style,” says Joanna Coles, Editor in Chief, Marie Claire magazine.
The application process requires students to provide insights about their personal style, where they find their fashion inspiration, and how they communicate through social networking outlets. Judges will seek out young women who are interested in exploring the multi-faceted aspects of fashion business – from marketing to styling, and fashion show production.
The program offers students the opportunity to prepare for their impending leap into the workplace. Throughout the whole process, they’ll learn the importance of first impressions, the value of networking, and the ways in which their future profession can influence their wardrobes – and vice versa.
Marie Claire’s editors, alongside Alia Ahmed-Yahia, LOFT’s Fashion Director, will be mentoring and ultimately judging each show from the front row. They will grant one winning student a coveted Marie Claire and LOFT summer 2012 internship.
“LOFT is thrilled to be partnering with Marie Claire on this exciting new program. Students are an incredibly important base of LOFT clients and we hope to introduce a whole new audience to LOFT on campuses around the country. This partnership allows students to pursue their passion for fashion and directly interact with some of the fashion industry’s leading forces,” says Deborah Cavanagh, Senior Vice President, LOFT Brand Marketing.
All currently-enrolled students can enter now for the chance to win on www.marieclaire.com/frontrowchallenge
Celebrities came out to celebrate the Grand Opening of the newly remodeled GUESS Soho flagship store located at 537 Broadway. The event was in collaboration with Marie Claire Magazine and hosted by Michelle Trachtenberg (and oh my god, she looked flawless).
A portion of the night’s shopping proceeds benefititng Oxfam America, an organization created to help end poverty, disaster conflict and dangerous climate control worldwide. And to help the event’s guests help support Oxfam, a $5 donation to this great charity organization allowed each guest to receive 20% off purchases
The store itself was quite beautiful; bright, amazingly spacious (I think the store is the length from Broadway to Mercer) whose walls featured almost billboard-sized photos of their models and ads all of which were hightlighted by track lighting. There was also exposed brick walls, extremely high ceilings and plexiglass displays all around the store which featured Guess’s footwear, bags and accessories
And speaking of Guess’s products, the clothing was the usual youthful and on trend
The jeans in the above photo for example are very hot and not at all bad at $105. I especially love the intricate embroidery. I also fell in love with the antique gold Gladiator Sandal. I didn’t find out how much it was but I’m sure my bank account will be an expert on the cost very soon
Anyway, on to the celebs and there were quite a few but then again it is Guess. See below for the celebrity attendees
There were other celebs that I missed including Designer Marc Bouwer, Alexandra Richards, Kim Stolz (Americas Next Top Model), etc. Also on hand were Harriet Sustarsit – Sr.VP Guess, David Chiovetti – VP Stores Guess and Susan Placemann of Marie Claire
The event was fun, fun and oh yeah, fun. The crowd not doing shopped and donated but a few lost themselves in the Guess atmosphere but all for a great cause
And of course I couldn’t leave without a giftbag and here it is
Anyone who knows me knows I love to read, I have to distance myself from Borders as much as Shoe Stores. I don’t just buy one book; I usually walk out with three or four everytime I walk into Borders, so when an event like this comes up, I’m both terrified (that I will start roaming the aisles and start picking up books) and excited (because you usually get a copy of the book). Anyway, off we (Dave, Kim, Marisol and I) go to the Marie Claire Book Club Event.
This is also our first Marie Claire Book Club Event, so we’re excited. The author is Lauren Groff and her first novel, The Monsters of Templeton.
You can find out more on the novel by clicking here. The event was also sponsored by one of my favorite Cognacs, Navan Liqueur. A cognac from Grand Marnier which is made from Black Madagasca Vanilla….ummmm…yummmm..
Anyway, we missed quite a bit of the event but we arrived to a very nice crowd
We also enjoyed some cocktails
I did get to meet, albeit briefly, the author and took some photos of her
From what I read on the book jacket, it’s really interesting. I didn’t get this book this night (didn’t purchase nor did we get it in the giftbag) but knowing me, I will get it. Instead, we got this book in the gift bag, The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane by Katherine Howe.
Here is the rest of the giftbag
