BollyDoll Launches Accessories Collection With M·A·C Cosmetics

In 2013 we were introduced to a playful handbag collection inspired by Bollywood that boasted totes, crossbodys, hobos, etc. in various, stunningly rich prints and bold colors. The handbag line, called BollyDoll, was created by singer, songwriter, performer, visual artist and designer, Amrita Sen. The collection features her illustrations, which draw inspiration from Indian prints of the Moghul era, and tell the story of a magic land filled with music and art. In a wonderful collaboration, BollyDoll and M·A·C Cosmetics have released a limited-edition accessories collection, launched this month, with Sen’s lovingly detailed hand sketches, and paintings springing vividly to life, in her debut illustrated Brush Kit and coordinating Makeup Bag.

“It is extremely exciting to announce the M·A·C BollyDoll Collection. The Brush Kit is a brush roll featuring special-edition brushes shaped with full-size brush heads. Brushes includes: 168 SE Large Angled Contour, 217 SE Blending, 219 SE Pencil,239 SE Eye Shading, and 204 SE Lash Brushes. It retails for $49.50.

The Makeup bag, available in pink or blue comes in the shape of an elongated rectangle. The sturdy but flexible plastic material instantly shows what the bag contains and is the perfect size to hold a sampling of M•A•C essentials. They retail for $36.00 each.

Fashionable Functionality | Erickson Beamon x LeSportsac Collection

We found ourselves especially drawn to the Brave New World print (available in a Scarf), and the pink lover in us fell head over heels for the pink-on-pink Talking Heads print (available in the Andy Tote). NIVEA Lip Care Announces “Style, Uncapped” Campaign w/ Rebecca Minkoff

Last year NIVEA Lip Care announced their wonderfully creative Style, Uncapped campaign, a customized lip care design campaign that celebrates the personal style of consumers, with designer Charlotte Ronson – NIVEA Lip Care Design Your Own Cap Contest. The campaign gives you, the consumer, a chance to design and purchase your own lip care cap creation and make every kiss memorable. This time they team up with fabulous designer, Rebecca Minkoff

I, along with a few other lucky media outlets, were invited to be one of the first to experience and design our own NIVEA Cap. Thanks to Nivea and the Style, Uncapped campaign, you will be able to choose from over 400 patterns and symbols, including Rebecca Minkoff’s design, and an variety of colors when creating their caps as well as more than 200 new symbols, 200 new patterns and 12 new design themes.

Nivea has come up with some wonderful ways to celebrate kisses, they understand that that each kiss is unique, must like each possible cap design. In support of this fun and expressive campaign, Rebecca Minkoff created a Limited Edition design (one of which, Rebecca Minkoff-Blue, is pictured above) inspired by her spring 2013 collection, which is also available for purchase on the Style, Uncapped website.

“I’m thrilled to be partnering with NIVEA,” said Rebecca Minkoff. “Like the brand, I appreciate and encourage self-expression. There are times when I feel truly blessed….more than usual of course. I know I’m luckier than most and I so appreciate that but there are moments when I feel extra lucky. One of those moments happened during New York Fashion Week at the brunch celebration for the Duro Olowu for jcpenney Collection. I love beautiful standout prints and this London-based designer is brilliant with his lively prints and unique patterns. His blending of patterns are definitely fashionable art, they give new life to classic feminine silhouettes and shapes.

Though the collection isn’t out yet, it launches March 1st, I already have quite a list of items I want to add to my personal collection, my ultimate top three must-have clothing favorites being the trench coat, sheath dress and multi-colored checkerboard sweater (to start).

The accessories I’m still drooling over – the stunning Ram necklace, eye-catching “hand-painted canvas” and snakeskin print medium tote, the wild patterned shoes (which matches the trench coat I’m dying for), and the horn necklace are just a few of the dazzling array of unique and bold offerings from the collection.

The event was one of my favorite Fashion Week events to attend, imagine Sunday brunch while shopping and getting beauty treatments all at once – heaven for any woman. Check out a video snippet of the atmosphere.

Maison Martin Margiela with H&M Pre-Shopping Event

Fashion lovers, celebrity stylists, fans of Maison Martin Margiela and even an actress were among the crowd taking advantage of the early private shopping event for the Maison Martin Margiela with H&M Collection at the newest H&M location at the Shops at Columbus Circle. Shoppers with armfuls of clothing, accessories and shoes settled in corners, continued shopping and guarded their selections with fervor

When dressing rooms were full, shoppers just threw their future purchases over their clothes. Among the bustling crowd were celebrity stylists, June Ambrose (who stated she loved the more structured pieces, those that reminded her of Comme des Garcons), and Robert Verdi, America’s Next Top Model’s Jay Alexander and Actress, Tracee Ellis Ross who accumulated not only a rack full of pieces but an armful as well

Shoppers also enjoyed cocktails and delicious hors d’oeuvres during the event but most concentrated on getting the items on the list. I spoke to a few who either got everything their wanted or came really close to it. I myself was dying for the Candy Wrapper Clutch in pink but alas I only saw silver the entire night. I later found out that the pink clutch was the very first thing to go.

Maison Martin Margiela for H&M Collection

One of the most anticipated collection collaboration, French fashion house Maison Martin Margiela’s Collection for H&M is almost here (if you listen carefully you can hear the faint sound of fashion lovers practicing their shopping {re: attack} strategies). The collection is actually a re-edition of iconic Maison Martin Margiela pieces spanning 23 years. The collection, which has 104 items, including women’s and men’s wear, accessories and footwear, is available in updated shapes and materials, all of which will bear a label indicating it’s original season. So ladies, what can you expect from the collection? Check out the concept and a few looks below:

  • Masculine shapes are adjusted to frame the female body
  • Pieces are seen in oversized versions of themselves
  • Though oversized traditional tailoring and finishes are very visible
  • The technique of trompe l’oeil (deceive the eye/creating optical illusions) is present in several pieces (my favorite is seen in the invisible wedge boot)
  • Transformation of shape, construction and function of materials

Definitely a collection for those who love the avant garde design philosophy of Margiela and who are more fashion-forward but there are several pieces that will easily fit into the atypical H & M customer’s wardrobe. Color-wise, the collection features classics – shades of white, black, nudes and reds with flashes of silver with a touch of blue. The collection launches in 230 H & M stores worldwide on November 15th. There are several pieces I will be zoning in (if the shelves aren’t bare):

KISS x Hello Kitty’s Rock Out Collaboration

Hello Kitty has gone rock. The uber cute and girly brand has paired with “The hottest band in the world” – KISS – for an unexpectedly cute collaboration. The Hello Kitty x KISS Collection offers a mix of co-branded products that will appeal to fans of all ages. Making it’s debut in retail outlets nationwide this month, this exceptional collaboration offers something unique and unexpected for fans of KISS and Hello Kitty. Two overarching themes in the collection include “Rock ‘N’ Roll / Rock Mood,” and “1976 destroyer / Street Mood.”

The 70s-era “classic” KISS retro collection is filled with unexpected fun, including Hello Kitty’s take on the classic KISS band profiles. Young customers will love the adorable styling of the t-shirts and accessories, while adults who love the rock culture will find the nostalgia pulling on their inner guitar strings. Two rock star Hello Kitty x KISS T-shirt designs have been at Hot Topic stores and online since April as a teaser for the Fall collection launch.
