NYC Event Alert: Women of Influence in Business and Style

Ever wish you could pick the brains of some of the most influential women in the fashion industry? This Friday, top executives from some of today’s most fashionable labels are taking part in a discussion on how women are leading change in the fashion industry, at the “Women of Influence in Business and Style” discussion. Presented by Pratt Institute, as part of their “Pratt Presents” series, and moderated by InStyle’s fashion News Editor, Eric Wilson, Friday’s event welcomes Melisa Goldie, Calvin Klein’s Chief Marketing Officer and Pratt alumna, Designer Tracy Reese, founder and creative director of the Tracy Reese, and Designer Maria Cornejo, founder of Zero + Maria Cornejo. These three, top female fashion leaders will discuss their role in creating, shaping, and innovating brands with a global reach.

At an exclusive reception, prior to this wonderful panel, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars will unveil the Wraith ‘Inspired by Fashion,’ a stunning and innovative expression of design for the resurgent Rolls-Royce Motor Car that boasts never before seen features on any Rolls-Royce, including materials, colors and fabrics created by the Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Design Team. The reception will also see Rolls-Royce Motor Cars announcing a scholarship award to future female design leader, and a short film created by Pratt highlighting its 125+ years of preparing successful women in the field of design.

“The quality of education students receive at Pratt Institute is reflected in the remarkable achievements of the school’s alumnae, which makes us very excited to offer a scholarship that will advance the education of a future female industry leader,” said Giles Taylor, Design Director for Rolls-Royce Motor Cars. “Given the tremendous influence Pratt has in the fashion world, we couldn’t have picked a better partner with whom to reveal the Wraith ‘Inspired by Fashion.”

The discussion panel is a can’t miss event for anyone interested in learning more about the fashion industry. The event is free and open to the public, and will be held this Friday, May 8th at 6PM at the IAC Building, located at 550 West 18th Street. Tide & Fashionista’s NYFW #WashableFashion Show

Ever wish you had the option of tossing your designer wardrobe into the washing machine with no fear of ruining them? Thanks to Tide and the CFDA, some designer labels will survive the washing machine. The Tide + CFDA Washable Fashion Initiative is a breakthrough partnership designed to educate and inform the fashion industry about the benefits and possibilities of creating more designer fashions using machine-washable fabrics. During New York Fashion Week, Tide Pods, along with Fashionista, presented the first-ever fashion show featuring looks that were all 100% washable. The event also highlighted looks from designer, Tracy Reese (also in attendance), who designed her first-ever machine washable looks for her Fall 2014 collection.

Five designers, Nyla Hasan, Lisu Vega, Nicole Haddad, Nicole Lenzen, and Priscilla Barroso, presented looks that were chic, stylish and 100% wash and wear. Check out looks form the show below:

EVA KHURSHID by Nyla Hasan

Inspired by the architecture and mosaics of Morrocco, this collection celebrated the intricate designs not in prints but in sexy cutouts, flirty feminine looks and chic color-blocking.

LISU VEGA

The super stylish, drop-crotch Maki pants combine edginess and comfort in the most way, making this style a guaranteed favorite for women.

LOBO MAU by Nicole Haddad

We love the easiness of these two 100% cotton looks from this Philly-based designer. The sportiness of the raglan-sleeved Racer dress is perfect for running errands, and we’re in awe of the deconstructed plaid print of the Duchess dress and love the black color black touches on the sleeves, waist, and neckline.

NICOLE LENZEN

Your work wardrobe just got easier. With chic looks that take you from day to night, from the office to out on the town, Nicole Lenzen offers versatile and flattering looks for the modern fashionista.

CROWNED BIRD by Priscilla Barroso

Designer, Priscilla Barroso, invites you to be a kid again with this look from her Crowned Bird BAKA (Japanese for foolish) Collection. Every look from this collection can be played in, slept in, and seen in. The playful School Girl Dress makes for easy wear day or night.

It’s difficult for many curve-having women to find jeans that not only fit but look good especially when there are several cool denim trends that we want to enjoy as well. One company offering on-trend denim for those of us who wear sizes above a size 6 is Rose Royce Denim (don’t get me wrong, they do offer styles for those who wear below size 6 – just note that the rest of us are covered as well).
