Celebrating Pride Weekend with Kiehl’s Since 1851 and Mya

Once again we were lucky enough to score an invitation to celebrate Pride Weekend with Kiehl’s Since 1851. If there is one company you want to celebrate with, it is this American skincare brand that specializes premium skin, hair, and body care products. Every year Kiehl’s hosts the official kick-off party with NYC Pride to the great joy of all in attendance, including us. As with all their past pride events, Kiehl’s president, Chris Salgardo co-hosted the event with a noted celebrity, made another wonderful donation to a non-profit organization, and had guests enjoying themselves with a hot DJ on deck. This year’s celebrity co-host was recording artist, songwriter, and actress, Mya, with DJ Gustavo on the 1-and-2s.

As always, the party, which was held at Third Avenue and East 13th Street, the first and flagship Kiehl’s location, was completely packed with party goers, activists, Kiehl’s employees, members of the LGBTQ community, celebrities, etc. It was a wonderful mix of people enjoying delicious cocktails and refreshments at a fun and philanthropic event.

We say philanthropic because once again Kiehl’s president, Chris Salgardo (pictured directly below), made a donation to the Hetrick-Martin Institute, as he does every year during the Pride Weekend with Kiehl’s parties. For those not aware, the Hetrick-Martin Institute is a non-profit that believes all young people, regardless of sexual orientation or identity, deserve a safe and supportive environment in which to achieve their full potential. Hetrick-Martin creates this environment for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) youth between the ages of 13 and 24 and their families.

To keep the party going, Mya, who graciously signed autographs of her 2016 album, Smoove Jones, for fans, also took a turn as guest DJ for the anxious crowd, treating us to one or two of her songs.

JCPenney & Ashley Nell Tipton Launch Boutique+ Plus-Size Fashion

JCPenney has just made two major moves in plus size fashion. The retail giant introduces Boutique+ Plus-Size Fashion, its first-ever plus-size fashion brand designed exclusively for full-figured women, and an all‐new, plus size in‐store concept. JCPenney teamed up with Project Runway Season 14 Winner Ashley Nell Tipton, who will serve as Boutique+’s brand ambassador and design two capsule collections for the plus-size fashion brand, to welcome the new initiatives. The launch was celebrated with a runway show at JCPenney’s Manhattan Hall location hosted by Ashley Nell Tipton.

This season, Boutique+ collection features avant-garde styles inspired by the ‘70s, including femme tops and dresses infused with floral and paisley prints and vintage denim, some of which can be seen in the runway show pictures above. Trendy fashion pieces include fringe tanks, tiered blouses and pleated skirts ranging in sale price from $12.99 for a top to $39.99 for a jacket. In addition to introducing the Boutique+ brand of clothing, JCPenney also debuts “The Boutique”, their plus size fashion in‐store concept, in nearly 200 of their retail locations offering feminine silhouettes, edgy patterns, and bold colors.

The Boutique boasts a display of plus-size mannequins to show how various outfits complement a curvy figure and features a curated assortment of classic and modern, plus-size fashions from brands such as a.n.a, Boutique+, Liz Claiborne, Worthington, Alyx, and Bisou Bisou. Shoppers should expect casual sportswear, denim, and activewear, as well as a collection of handbags, fashion jewelry, and accessories from this one-stop shopping destination.

For fall and holiday, Ashley will introduce an exclusive JCPenney capsule collection, “Ashley Nell Tipton for Boutique+,” marking the first time that her designs have been made available by a national retailer.

Ricky’s NYC Welcomes Velvet 59 Cosmetics

It’s been a very hectic time for us, but we always try to make time to get to know new brands, especially if these new products boast wonderful attributes. A while back, we had the pleasure of getting to know Paris Manning, and her new line of cruelty-free, paraben-free, 100% vegan, and gluten-free cosmetics line. Velvet 59 Cosmetics is new to the market and is already making an impact. The cutting edge beauty brand announced a partnership with leading retailer, Ricky’s NYC. The Derek Lam 10 Crosby fragrance collection features 10 distinctive, modern fragrances based on one New York City street, 10 stories, and 10 moments. From fresh and floral to deep and oriental, the scents constructions vary from simple and chic to
complex and sophisticated, yet all are modern and unique. In regards to the fragrance bottles, Derek selected a color palate that would be varied in hue to tone. Kiehl’s, Solange Knowles, & Mary Lambert Celebrates NYC Pride w/ Official Kick-Off Party

On the night before the Supreme Court ruled in favor of marriage equality for all 50 states, Kiehl’s Since 1851 held their annual Gay Pride Party to celebrate NYC Pride Week. The event was hosted by singer/songwriter, Mary Lambert, alongside Kiehl’s President, Chris Salgardo, who were on hand to honor the weekend of celebration.

Guests were treated to a night full of great music from DJs The Misshapes, and later in the evening, Solange Knowles, who rocked the house with a non-stop playlist of hot 90’s hits. Check out a video snippet of her set:

Guests were also treated to three delicious kinds of Mac and Cheese dishes – Mediterranean, Parisian and Buffalo Wing Style, and a wide assortment of cocktails that flowed freely all night.

Of course the event wasn’t just to party, Kiehl’s, who has been an avid supporter of great charities for years, made a donation of $5,000 to the Hetrick-Martin InstituteThomas Krever, Chief Executive Officer of the Institute who was on hand to receive the amazing donation. The Hetrick-Martin Institute is a non-profit that believes all young people, regardless of sexual orientation or identity, deserve a safe and supportive environment in which to achieve their full potential. Hetrick-Martin creates this environment for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) youth between the ages of 13 and 24 and their families.

Ricky’s NYC and Dark & Lovely Au Naturale Event

The day before NYFW was a busy one for us, one of the events we attended was the casual, Dark & Lovely Au Naturale Event held at Ricky’s NYC. Guests were treated to a Q & A Session, and hair consultations with SoftSheen-Carson‘s Education Director, Mezei Jefferson, as well as receive makeovers, complimentary champagne and food, lots of product sampling, and the chance to win tickets to a fashion week show. The Ricky’s NYC and+ Dark & Lovely Au Naturale Event is an absolute must to attend if you rock natural hair.

As attendees soaked up all the information they could from Mezei Jefferson (he is the go-to guru for all things Dark & Lovely and, of course, natural hair), we enjoyed tunes by DJ Juss and these delicious Dark & Lovely branded cupcakes and went home with an incredible amount of samples to indulge our hair in.
