Robert Verdi’s The Future of Fashion Retreat

Celebrity Stylist Extraordinaire, Red Carpet Aficionado and now host of his own show, The Robert Verdi Show Starring Robert Verdi hosted his third The Future of Fashion Retreat for the fashion elite to relax and unwind in between the mad dashes to shows. We, lucky few, were treated to “Blowouts from PHYTO’s professional hair stylist, Manicures from Ginger+Liz, Make-up touch ups from Jouer Cosmetics (all were too busy so I never got a chance to enjoy), New ABSOLUT Berri Acai cocktails, Healthy lunches & recovery kits from Blue Print Cleanse, SmartWater & the new VitaminWater Zero, Aluminum bottles from Coca-Cola, Rock & Republic Jeans (LOVE, LOVE, LOVE), ShatoBu Shapewear Bar (heaven), Vans custom shoe station (I never got a chance to try it out), Shades from Carrera (I never got to check these out either) and one-on-one fittings to find your perfect bra size from Maidenform” and a few more treats.

Before I go into detail on my gifting experience, let’s find out a bit more on this amazing retreat (and a few other tidbits) from the man who created it – Robert Verdi. Although I didn’t get to experience every aspect, Robert Verdi does go into great detail the brands featured in his retreat.

Now, my first stop was to Popcorn, Indiana. I must say that Kettle Corn is my favorite and as you can see below, there was plenty of it to enjoy.

robert verdi 014 robert verdi 015

I then ventured to the private boudoir to get fitted for my perfect bra size by Maidenform thanks to Nicole. I found out some very interesting things including the fact that I have to get rid of most of the bras I own as they are the wrong size.

robert verdi 008 robert verdi 009 robert verdi 005

I was introduced to a new bra guaranteed to give you two cup sizes instantly – as many of you may know that is something I don’t need so Nicole introduced me to the custom fit bra. I asked her the one question that all women should know the answer but don’t – because I didn’t

My next stop was to sample the fantastic and healthy food and drinks from BPC (Blue Print Cleanse). I loved the Spicy Lemonade and Cashew Milk from BPC and the amazing cocktail made with Absolut Berri Acai (a delicious combination of Acai, Blueberry, and Pomegranate)

robert verdi 003 robert verdi 026

Then it was off to the Rock & Republic Denim bar to find a new pair of favorite jeans. Rock & Republic is a luxurious denim brand who makes “must have” jeans and has recently branched out into the Cosmetics market to join their handbag and accessories lines.

robert verdi 021

My favorite were these embellished skinny jeans (UPDATE: the jeans are called F#@k Me B#@!H)

robert verdi 020

Then I was introduced to what could possibly be my new best friend – The ShāToBu™ Shaper, the workout you wear. ShāToBu™ burns up to 12% more daily calorie- that is my type of workout. “Designed to be worn all day, every day, ShāToBu™ offers enough resistance in the bands to provide a significant toning and burning effect”. I welcome the challenge to these thighs of mine.

And although I didn’t get to personally try out the Carrera Sunglasses which has been around since 1956 and has made quite a comeback thanks in part to Lady Gaga and other celebs, in my interview with Robert Verdi, he does talk about them and I do have a photo (thanks to a friend).

What do you think of the items we saw at the Robert Verdi’s The Future of Fashion Retreat? Any favorites you’ll be keeping an eye out for?

Ports 1961 Spring 2010 Show

Tia Cibani’s nature-inspired “Fluere” for her Ports 1961 Spring 2010 collection reminded me very much of a Japanese Garden, not because of the few floral prints but because of the structure of the garments. There is a distinct look and feel to an Asian garment, you can always see influences of that inspiration in any design. These two looks directly below remind me of a koi pond, of course it may be because of the color and the movement of the garments (I must say that no where in the show’s run-through does it mention an Asian influence but that is just what it reminds me of).

Fashion Wk - day 1 043 Fashion Wk - day 1 040
However if you do notice in these other two garments below, you’ll notice that Japanese Obi Belts have definitely inspired the waistline on these gorgeous garments. I love Tia Cibani’s vision, it’s always so modern but with a very distinct twist. Her stuff is never boring but oh so beautiful and charming

ports1961 runway Fashion Wk - day 1 037

Needless to say the collection was one of many that took my breath away. I do love Ports and I think I’ve stated this before – I do own a few Ports accessories and of course I’d love to own more especially the shoes. There is one style for the Spring 2010 season that I may just do something illegal for. I couldn’t get a good shot of the shoes (those models can be quite speedy) but thanks to the internet, I got a photo (excuse me while I drool)

Handbag Butler at NYIGF

As I mentioned in my post on the NYIGF, there were companies from around the world showcasing their products. I had the pleasure of getting to know a few like Handbag Butler of Australia. Handbag Butler is a chic, foldable hanger that can be attached to a tabletop to keep you handbag out of harm’s way. (like a dirty floor) Launched in Australia in October 2008, the Handbag Butler has given women the freedom to dine in style without putting their purse in peril.

nyigf 059

Handbag Butler comes in 25 unique styles in three very elegant collections – Printed Collection, Sparkle Collection and Crystal Collection (click on each Handbag Butler to see a more detailed view). I love the elegant beauty of the Printed Collection, the Swirl, the Butterfly and Tinker being my favs in this collection. They are so feminine and ornate. My other favorite is from the dazzling Sparkle Collection, which is so opulent; in fact it is from this collection that I found my own Handbag Butler – The Rose Petal

Now I know there are a few people in the market with this must have accessory but Handbag Butler stood out to me, not just because of their designs and beauty but their packaging as well. I ask, what do you do with your Handbag Butler when it’s not in use? Just put it in it’s little holder which is so adorable. And that holder comes in an intricately decorated – utterly adorable

handbag butler 004
Unfortunately, Handbag Butler isn’t available in US Stores as yet (I’m sure that will change soon after showing at the NYIGF) but you are able to order via their website. The Printed and Crystal Collections retail for $24.95 USD each and the Sparkle Collection retails for $29.95 USD. Funny thing, I’ve seen less beautiful pieces for much more. Trust me, go with the Handbag Butler.

As before, I got a chance to speak with the owner – Ana Slavka

****UPDATE – In approx 5 weeks, Handbag Butler will be available in about 20 shops in the US. For now it is available at “Lee’s Art Shop”, located at 220 West 57th Street . Happy Shopping.

Estelle Hosts H & M Event “Fashion Against Aids”

H & M and Designers Against Aids teamed up together to create the Fashion Against Aids Collection and celebrate the newest H & M store on 86th Street and Lexington hosted by singing sensation, Estelle.

Dave was already at the location with Stephon, another friend of ours.

H & M 030

Kim and I arrived about twenty minutes after it started to find press photog and other media at the red carpet waiting for the celeb guests. I invited a young friend of mine, Matt, who helped me move (he’s an aspiring model), so I thought he might enjoy this event (it also was a good way to pay him back for helping me). And it so was (I will post a pic of him a bit later).

After we checked in, Kim and I walked into the new location to find some very fierce fashion on the first floor including my friend Indashio (which you might remember as the winner of the VH1 Show “Glam God” hosted by Vivica A. Fox)

We went upstairs to find the second floor was the party floor. It was very crowded, hors d’oeuvres were being passed around and the bars were packed

The very cute “Fashion Against Aids” t-shirts (designed by Cyndi Lauper, Dita Von Teese, Dangerous Muse, Estelle, Katharine Hamnett, Katy Perry, Moby, N.E.R.D, Robyn, Tokio Hotel, Roisin Murphy, Yelle and Yoko Ono), condoms, buttons (they were gone, so no photo of them) and displays are located to the right of the top of the escalator

It was then that I took a photo of Matt

Soon after this photo was taken, Estelle arrived and she was very gracious with taking photos with her fans (including Matt who had been quite busy networking the fashion crowd and showing his portfolio. He ended the night with some great connections)

Then it was off to shopping. At the event, H & M allowed guests 25% off everything in the store, so we had to take advantage of that. After a quick trip to the bar for a drink and some oogling of the cute bartenders, we proceeded to shop

I purchased the following t-shirts (not shown is the one by Dita Von Teese). The last one is the one by Estelle. I considered having her autograph it but I want to actually wear it

we walked around a bit more, taking in the sights, trying clothes on, etc. I was lucky to find one guest really enjoying the music, so I pulled out mt camera and proceeded to take some video (I love to see people having a great time)

We continued to have a great time the rest of the evening. We drank some more (except for Matt, who didn’t touch any alcoholic beverages at all- excellent), enjoyed more hors d’oeuves, paid for our purchases and left quite happy right to the red carpet and step n repeat banner for more photos

AND SPEAKING OF BARBIES……

Fashion Week - last days 055

In celebration of Barbie’s 50th Anniversary, Bloomingdales 59th Street has about 120 Barbies on display this month. The spectacular retrospective features Barbie dolls from the five decades, in six categories: Heritage, Careers, Celebrities, designers, Pop Culture/Fantasy, and the Barbie fashion Model Collection. You can also purchase Barbie clothing for the grown up little girl in your life (even if that little girl is you). I got a few photos of my favorites below:

BARBIE’S 50TH ANNIVERSARY SHOW

As many of you may be (yes, some guys too), I’m a Barbie Girl! And this year Barbie celebrated her 50th Birthday and I was very lucky to be able to celebrate with her at Barbie’s 50th Anniversary Show. Most of the shows at the tents were not as full as expected but when it go to the Barbie Show, that was not the case. The invitation said to bring your Barbie girl, so I brought Estephanie with me (you remember her from the Puma post) as my guest. Thank goodness for guests because the Barbie Show started at 3 pm and I had a show at 2 pm. While I was at the 2 pm show, I had Estephanie stand in line to check in because I knew it was going to be a madhouse and boy was I right, it was completely packed. By the time I left the 2 pm show (which ended at 3 pm), the line was wrapped around the tents about three times but as I said Estephanie was already in line and thankfully at the front. We checked in and low and behold, we had seats…YAY! So in we went! Estephanie basically bogarted my camera and went hunting for celebrities (which is great because she got some great shots – the first of her and her friend is the only one I personally took at this show)

Anyway, we all (young and old, male and female) turned into quivering 8-year-old girls when the show started. It definitely brought me back to my childhood and seeing those fabulous designs from the following designers all in one place….heaven. Only Barbie could do this. Here’s the list of designers that created a look for Barbie:

Alexander Wang, Anna Sui, Baby Phat, Badgley Mischka, Betsey Johnson, Bob Mackie, Brian Reyes, Calvin Klein, Carmen Marc Valvo, Catherine Malandrino, Chris Benz, Costello Tagliapietra, Derek Lam, Diane von Furstenberg, Donna Karan, Erin Fetherston, House of Field, Jeremy Scott, Juicy Couture, Kai Kuhne, Kenneth Cole, Koi Suwannagate, Lyn Devon, Marchesa
Michael Kors, Monique Lhuillier, Naeem Khan, Nanette Lepore, Nicole Miller, Norma Kamali, Peter Som, Rachel Roy, Rag & Bone, Rebecca Taylor, Reem Acra, Robert Best, Rosa Cha, The Blonds, Three As Four, Tibi, Tommy Hilfiger, Tory Burch, Tracy Reese, Trina Turk, Tuleh, Twinkle, Vena Cava, Vera Wang, Vivienne Tam, Yeohlee, and Yigal Azrouel.

I confess that I screamed like a little girl when the Bob Mackie look came out. It was just so WOW!!! On a separate note, the music was awesome. Many people were chair dancing along to it. After the show, I found out that I know the person who did the music, his name is Wilson aka DJ Mr. Wilson, he does soundtracks for some of the biggest shows (such as Jason Wu, J Mendel, Nicole Miller, Derek Lam, etc) and is a total sweetheart. He is the best friend of my friend William and the funny thing is we all hung out later the same night of this show.

Instead of taking photos of the looks, I decided to take video of the entire show. At some points I try to get the name of the designer as their look is coming down the runway but I didn’t get some of the names because of lighting and where I was sitting but I still got some great footage. It was a beautiful show and I was so happy to get to see it.

If you haven’t noticed (check out the first photo), we all got vintage Barbies to take home…YAY!! Mine is still in its box and will never be removed. I want to make sure it’s properly preserved. I mean, it is a classic, it is BARBIE!! What did you think of Barbie’s 50th Anniversary Show?

Susan G Komen Event – It is Breast Cancer Month

Before I start, I must say congrats to my good friend Indashio for winning VH1’s Glam God with Vivica A Fox. You go baby and don’t let the negative people spoil your love of your job.

Back to the event. As October is Breast Cancer Month, you know there are Breast Cancer Events going on. I attended one hosted by the Cosmedical Spa, Smooth Synergy. It was originally supposed to be cruise around New York but because they got more RSVPs than expected, they moved the entire event to Mansion. An email was sent out the night before the event but some people got it the same day as the event (which is unfortunate – I will explain a bit later). Anyway, the event was being hosted by Christian Michael de Medici and sponsored by The Daily (Fashion Week Daily to the layman)

(yes, from THAT de Medici family), who has his own reality show called POPLIFE: The Adventures of a de Medici. At the event, they stated the show airs on MTV, I assumed MTV Europe. Anyway, as soon as you walk in, there are pap-type photogs waiting and you’re asked to post against this step and repeat

I of course followed direction, Angelique* on the other hand is not fond of taking pictures, so she passed. Afterwards, you check in with these two lovely ladies,

given a gift bag ticket as well as a drink ticket (this part surprised us as the invitation stated open bar but as said before, the change of venue notice said they expecting much more people than before, so I guess the open bar was now limited to one drink. I’m not that big a drinker (I usually stay at 2 drinks at an event) and Angelique* doesn’t drink alcohol (yes, really) except for one curious moment with a glass of Sangria (which she didn’t like) LOL. So of course, neither of us minded, it’s for a great cause and we were ready to battle to crowd for a good spot. We walk into the main hall of Mansion to the screens showcasing this (they will later show snippets from POPLIFE: The Adventures of a de Medici)

Unfortunately, the guests seem very scarce but it’s still early yet. We join Kim and her friend Allison, Marisol and her brother (all we’ve met before), so we sit and chit chat about the past events we attended, the future events we will attend, the lack of people at this event, the hors d’oeuvres, world news, etc, etc. Then Angelique* and I got our one drink (mine was pretty powerful, so I’m glad it’s only one). Several minutes later, Christian de Medici introduces himself and he begins the auction (did I forget that there is an auction……well, there is an auction, there I mentioned it. It is a charitable event after all).

Not everything up for auction was available to take photos, except the artwork (no the horn in the back is not a part of it)

which this gentleman and his wife purchase one (they are the owners of Smooth Synergy)

The other painting was purchased by this man

who also walked away with a fashion Week in Paris trip worth $45,000 for ONLY $3,000. YES, REALLY! The package included a roundtrip for two on a private jet, front row tickets to Paris fashion Week with Christian de Medici, of course hotel. $3,000, I’ll say it again $3,000. I almost past out. Oh god, I wish, I wish that was me. The whole event was like a sale (I think he bought something else too but I can’t remember).

Imagine a free hotel stay for ANY W Hotel in the world – how much would you expect that to cost and where would you go? It was valued at $10,000. The winning bid did not spend that much – at all.

There was also a botox and restylane packages worth thousand that went for like $300, a trip for two to Miami and Los Angeles that went for nothing. Kim, Angelique*, Marisol and I all turned a very deep shade of envy green that night. The reason for the rock bottom prices? As I stated before, guests were very scarce at this event. I think not everyone got the new location email that was sent out. So everything had to go to at least get some money for the organization. I’m just happy at least some money was made. I wish I had a lot of my own to bid (on the Paris trip) but not everyone is as lucky as others in this struggling economy..sigh……

Anyway, at about midnight or 1 am (who can remember), the club officially changed from charity event host location to full on club. The transition was made by them (guess I’d have to be a straight man to get the concept but whatever)

The last part of the evening is of course gift bag time, and here it is

Aerosoles Supports The Women’s HIV/Aids Collaborative of NY

Few people know this but in high school I used to be a peer educator on HIV/Aids. I was in charge of the condom presentation; my presentation board had an array of condoms – colored, flavored, etc but I’m getting off topic here.Anyway, as I was saying, not many know that I was a peer educator, but many know my love, ok lust, alright obsession with shoes. So when this event came up, you know I had to attend.

Aerosoles-in-Store-HIV-Event

The event hosted by Aerosoles on 5th Ave between 21st & 22nd. Zia*, Angelique* and I were going to attend but at the last minute Angelique*, who had to work a little later decided not to attend at the last minute. So Zia* and I walk into a crowd of women shopping like crazy in the small boutique. Although it started at 5 pm, and we got there at around 5:45 pm or 6 pm and there was already a long line at the register (I guess the economy isn’t THAT bad), but everyone really got some great savings. First you get 15% off your first purchase, 25% off all boots and if you bought two pairs of shoes, you get an additional 20% off your second pair of shoes. With savings like this, I guess horde as many shoes as your cash or credit flow will allow.

Aerosoles-in-Store-HIV-Event2 Aerosoles-in-Store-HIV-Event3

Anyway, although Aerosoles isn’t exactly my cup of tea (what? 1-inch heels? I’m sorry I don’t speak that language). Zia*, on the other hand, was in heaven, she practically has an Aerosoles collection growing in her closet, I did manage to find some cute shoes, though. Aerosoles-in-Store-HIV-Event4Aerosoles-in-Store-HIV-Event5

Zia*, on the other hand, got two pairs to add to her collection. Usually, the girl likes color as much as a vampire likes sunlight but she did take home colors way out of her comfort zone (which is black, brown, tan or gray).

Aerosoles-in-Store-HIV-Event6

She got the silver in the above style, she really wanted the gold, which shocked the hell out of me, but they didn’t have her size. She also got these in PURPLE!!

Aerosoles-in-Store-HIV-Event7

Of course, she took those home on a trial basis. Like I said a vampire to sunlight. For all I know, they may go right back to the store tomorrow. Anyway, more shopping happened around us. I must add that this woman (in the black jacket) also purchased the silver ballet flats when she saw them on Zia*.

Aerosoles-in-Store-HIV-Event8

We also ran into a new friend of ours, Amanda, who I met at the PUMA event (she invited us to the book launch for Slim Satisfied and Sexy) and she left with two pairs of boots. I’m not showing her face because I didn’t ask her permission but here she is with her two pairs of shoes

Aerosoles-in-Store-HIV-Event11

Anyway, I didn’t forget the main purpose of the event, which is to bring awareness to the Women’s HIV Collaborative

Aerosoles-in-Store-HIV-Event9

I’m not sure what percentage of tonight’s proceeds went to the Women’s HIV Collaborative but from the amount of shopping done tonight, it will be a good amount. Although I didn’t buy any shoes from Aerosoles tonight (I”m saving for a big upcoming trip), I did order some very cute boots and they came today….YEAHHH!!! Here they are (I am not saying the brand because I don’t want to see these everywhere, especially since I want a chance to wear them properly first)

Aerosoles-in-Store-HIV-Event10

As an extra reward, all attendees got a 15% off Lifetime coupon to Aerosoles. Zia* has one and so does Angelique* (we took one for her), so if anyone wants mine, let me know.

On the way out we ran into Kim on her way to the event. The three of us talked for a while (me mostly complaining that I’m not yet well known in the blog world to get an invitation to the Robin Thicke Album release party tonight………oh poo).

That is all, until the next event tomorrow.
