Protect Yourself From Cellphone Radiation With a Pong Case

A couple of months ago I wrote about Native Union’s Pop Phone which helps protect you against cellphone radiation by keeping your cellphone away from your head, well here’s another mobile accessory that will further help protect you from direct contact with wireless device radiation while optimizing the way your mobile devices perform; this amazing product is The Pong Case. While here are a slew of earpieces on the market, most cellphone users usually have their phones pressed up directly against their ears (I myself am guilty of that) and I’m sure like me, most of you sleep with your cellphones very near to you – a habit which can be equally dangerous to you. “Some estimate that up to 90% of young adults (age 18 to 29) sleep with their cellphones, with many teens using them well into the night”. I am a long sufferer of headaches and learning about the Pong Cases has made me realize my cellphone just might be the cause of those frequent headaches, which is why I was more than happy to test out the HTC Evo 4G Pong™ Case (which comes in white, black and red)

So what is Pong? Pong is a manufacturer of wireless device cases that help protect you from cell phone radiation from your iPhones, iPads, Blackberry and Android devices, which, in 2011, the World Health Organization classified as a possible carcinogen – of course you don’t need a genius to tell you radiation is bad for your health.

Your cell phone antennas emits a powerful form of microwave energy called electromagnetic radiation (EMR). Since the long term health effects of exposure to microwave EMR are unknown, most of us should want to avoid unnecessary exposure but as avid mobile users, we all want a powerful cell phone. We crave our phones to have and show maximum signal strength, reflected by the number of “bars” on our phones, but we never think about the effects. Did you know that the signal strength of your phone is related to the magnitude or intensity of the EMR which it produces and receives? – The lower the signal strength, the greater the intensity of EMR emitted by your phone. Pong devices are uniquely designed to solve this dilemma for cellphone users by embedding a patented antenna technology in each case that redirects and redistributes the radiation that would otherwise be absorbed by the user’s head and body. Pong reduces your radiation exposure by up to 95% below FCC and internationally established safety limits as measured on the SAR scale.

Pong has released a new Lexan line of cases in “soft touch” and “leather touch” for iPhone 4S, 4 and 3GS; 8 BlackBerries (including the new 9900/9930), and 3 Android phones—with more in development. Pong has also shipped unique, patent-pending solutions for the iPad and iPad 2, with other tablet devices coming soon. Pong sells these products exclusively on its website at

BlackBerry’s BBM Ugly Sweater Fan Night Party with Michael Strahan

Wearing some of the ugliest holiday sweaters they could find, BlackBerry fans came together for the ultimate holiday celebration of all things BlackBerry. Hosted by Michael Strahan, adoring fans and video game enthusiasts attended the BBM Ugly Sweater Fan Night Party at Aspen Social Club in NYC.
Guests test-drove Angry Birds 3 on the PlayBook and new BlackBerry 7 devices, created ugly holiday sweater avatars and snapped holiday pictures with friends in the photo booth.
The main event began when Michael Strahan challenged a few lucky fans to a friendly game of Madden ’12 on the BlackBerry PlayBook. The competition was tough, but Michael, sporting his white sweater with snowmen and stockings, offered fans tips on how to defeat the master in his own game.

It was non-stop hilarious commentary, tips and tricks from Michael Strahan as each fan tried their best to win.

Fans who attended the event scored their tickets to the party, BBM’ing gloves and a new BlackBerry Bold 9900 through an online contest hosted by BlackBerry. To win, they had to submit a BBM Ugly holiday sweater avatar and tell BlackBerry via Twitter what BlackBerry product is on their holiday wish list. 12 winners won an opportunity to join a BBM group conversation to chat personally with Michael Strahan via a Twitter contest where fans shared a time Michael Strahan made a “Bold” move on the field.

Throughout the evening, party guests nibbled on tray passed hors d’oeuvres and sipped spiked cider while posting photos and documented all of the festivities via live Twitter feed, which was on display for BlackBerry fans at the event, and provided updates to those at home who weren’t able to join in on the action.

BlackBerry PlayBook Luxury Accessories Collection

Last night, Marie Claire Creative Director, Nina Garcia and Style and Accessories Director, Taylor Tomasi Hill attended the Made for BlackBerry PlayBook Luxury Accessories Collection event at the Cooper Square Hotel in NYC. I’m sure several of you already have a BlackBerry PlayBook so now it’s time to accessorize it in style.

Research In Motion and Winkreative collaborated to curate a collection of accessories and cases that includes both industrial and luxury product designs from around the world, with designs from Brooklyn (Japan), Delvaux (Belgium), Ettinger (England), Ganzo (Japan), Porter (Japan), WANT Les Essentiels de la Vie (Canada) and Valextra (Italy). Fun, bold colors were seen in leather, neoprene and soft shell fabrications.
Valextra – crafted from full-bodied Italian leather, and lined with fine-grain calfskin, this sleek case offers an additional envelope pocket and punched hole for earphones. These luxe cases will guard your PlayBook from bumps, whether you’re at home, the office or in transit.

Ettinger – it’s no surprise that the case below is so chic because Ettinger has been making leather goods since 1934. Supple leather, hand-finished with inside compartments and pockets are key features. I’m in love with the bold red leather.

Brooklyn – another favorite; I love their trademark yellow stitching against the rich grainy Aqua and coral calfskin leathers. Like the Ettinger, the Brooklyn has inside compartments as well but it holds more – there’s room for your pen, business cards and notes.

Want Les Essentiels de la Vie – Though they do offer this Italian calfskin leather zippered wallet-style case in burnt henna, I love the ecru/black color block. It is right on trend to what’s going on in fashion and clothing accessories right now. Like the two previous styles, it too has inner slots for business cards, notes, etc

Delvaux – loving this leather journal which resembles a classic notebook but with a kick of bold color. It features a soft microfibre lining and an elastic closure.

Ganzo – though the colors of this tanned Minerva natural leather are not bold, they are rich and luxe. The interior features the softest suede which makes this luxe minimalist and streamlined leather case a first for the more classically chic consumer.

Porter – unlike the others, this Porter BlackBerry PlayBook case is not all leather. It is made from engineered nylon canvas with a leather handle and is only available in olive-khaki and black. This zipped carry-all contains custom storage slots for your notebook, BlackBerry Phone and a lined with ultra-soft microfibre for your PlayBook.

The Daily Style Sessions

One thing I’ve learned while covering Mercedes Benz Fashion Week is attending anything by the Fashion Week bible, The Daily, is a must for survival. I had the pleasure of attending The Daily Style Sessions at the Stone Rose Lounge – an exclusive retreat where guests recharged physically, mentally and technologically (outlets are like found diamonds during fashion week)

The first (and hopefully not the last) of The Daily Style Sessions featured several of my favorite vendors. Upon arrival, I was greeted by some of the hottest styles of fashion forward sunglasses from Silhouette Eyewear

There were so many cool styles to try, it was so hard to select a favorite style. My next stop was John Frieda for a much needed touch up and frizz control to my wind blown hair which had turned from chic waves to a wild mess thanks to the humidity

After getting my tresses tamed, I learned all about the latest skincare breakthroughs from Avon – another addiction to their Anew line of products.

Avon’s Anew Genics Treatment Cream, a treatment designed to stimulate your Youth Gene’s activity, which slows down with age. Genics improves the appearance of skin discolorations by up to 100% and can look up to ten years younger. Next up was indulging in the powerful sound from SOUL by Ludacris Headphones at the listening stations

I fell in love with the above SL150, which fit my head perfectly and comfortably (love the quilted headband) – I so wished I got to take one home but alas….After getting into a nice groove from the music (it’s amazing how music can put you in a great mindset), I needed to completely relax which led me to the amazing complimentary spa services from Equinox massage therapists and brow specialists (though I only had time for a massage – it was so needed)

Throughout the event, guests were treated to hors d’oeuvres from Benchmarc Events by Marc Murphy to pair with refreshing toasts from Asahi Beer, Liquid Lightning, and ZICO. And several took advantage of The Macallan® bar which offered guests to sip the fine single Malt Scotch Whisky and indulge in three custom cocktails highlighting sweet, sour and umami flavors

It was then on to BlackBerry to recharge my completely dead battery, catch up on emails, tweet about my experience and learn about what’s new including new handheld devices and new accessories for the must-have BlackBerry Playbook

And right next to BlackBerry was an amazing company called Coveroo, which makes custom cases and covers for any gadget allowing you to personalize every electronic device in the world. They were on site to engrave any design you wanted on your phone including your name, company logo, image, etc.

My cellphone cover went from this (beginning of engraving process)

to this quirky image etched on it (the final image says “Blah Blah Blah”)

As you can imagine several people were very excited about Coveroo, including actor, Richard Kind (Spin City, Curb Your Enthusiam, etc) who couldn’t wait to get his device personalized

Speaking of celebs, since I could only attend during a limited amount of time so I missed the other celeb attendees which included Michelle Trachtenberg, Christina Milian, Sheri Shepard, Kelly Rutherford, etc. Though I couldn’t stay for the entire event so I missed the following – The Daily Style Sessions featured live performances by Theophilus London, Ellie Goulding, Mike Nouveau, Jared Evan, Sabi, Graffiti6, Sean Fightcats, Frankmusik, Kieren Taylor, Nicole Atkins, Light Asylum, Brenmar, Miguel, Autobot of Flosstradamus, Peggy Wang of The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, Deluka, and more.
