BlackBerry’s BBM Ugly Sweater Fan Night Party with Michael Strahan

Wearing some of the ugliest holiday sweaters they could find, BlackBerry fans came together for the ultimate holiday celebration of all things BlackBerry. Hosted by Michael Strahan, adoring fans and video game enthusiasts attended the BBM Ugly Sweater Fan Night Party at Aspen Social Club in NYC.
Guests test-drove Angry Birds 3 on the PlayBook and new BlackBerry 7 devices, created ugly holiday sweater avatars and snapped holiday pictures with friends in the photo booth.
The main event began when Michael Strahan challenged a few lucky fans to a friendly game of Madden ’12 on the BlackBerry PlayBook. The competition was tough, but Michael, sporting his white sweater with snowmen and stockings, offered fans tips on how to defeat the master in his own game.

It was non-stop hilarious commentary, tips and tricks from Michael Strahan as each fan tried their best to win.

Fans who attended the event scored their tickets to the party, BBM’ing gloves and a new BlackBerry Bold 9900 through an online contest hosted by BlackBerry. To win, they had to submit a BBM Ugly holiday sweater avatar and tell BlackBerry via Twitter what BlackBerry product is on their holiday wish list. 12 winners won an opportunity to join a BBM group conversation to chat personally with Michael Strahan via a Twitter contest where fans shared a time Michael Strahan made a “Bold” move on the field.

Throughout the evening, party guests nibbled on tray passed hors d’oeuvres and sipped spiked cider while posting photos and documented all of the festivities via live Twitter feed, which was on display for BlackBerry fans at the event, and provided updates to those at home who weren’t able to join in on the action.

Two Weeks with The BlackBerry Playbook

Remember when I told you guys that I wish I had the BlackBerry Playbook? You can see my drooling HERE. Well my wish was granted…..well kinda….I got a chance to try out the BlackBerry Playbook for two weeks. Though I am not a technical girl, I know what I like and I usually like tech toys that are easy to use, small to carry, and allows the option to grow. Several sites give more technical reviews, I’d call mine a more emotional one….why? Because I fell head over heels in love with the BlackBerry Playbook.

As far as style it fits me perfectly. It’s sleek, chic, smart and fits perfectly in my handbag. The back of the Playbook is a muted ruberrized shell with a small metal BlackBerry insigna in the very middle. All the usual suspects are already available – App World, Weather, Music Store, YouTube, etc and some extras that usually have to be downloaded like Facebook, Twitter, Kobo Books, Bing Maps, Gmail, Hotmail, AOL Mail, Marie Claire, YahooMail, Slacker Radio, games – NFS Undercover, MindBuddy and Tetris and more.

Naturally it has all the BlackBerry staples – Excel Doc, PowerPoint, Adobe Reader, Word Doc so you can work on the go and from anywhere – say goodbye to being stuck at the office. Each document opened quite quickly and with ease. New documents were a breeze, just as good as being in your office. In other words, its the perfect Tablet for work and play.

As I stated before, I’m not a techie so of course I had to call customer service a couple of times. First to set up my passwords and secondly to delete the amazingly crystal clear pictures I mistakenly took while getting acquainted with the Playbook. Both calls went smoothly and the tech reps were very helpful and YES, you speak with an actual human who walks you through each steps, so there is no fear if you are not tech savvy. Once I got more acquainted, I couldn’t wait to try it all that the BlackBerry Playbook offers, including beating my high score on MindBuddy.

The only issue I had and I’m sure it must have been my internet connection, was that downloading took a while. Being a New Yorker, I’m sure my impatience surely needs a little adjustment but I felt powering up/powering on also took a while as well – it took 1 minute and 20 seconds to get to the main menu but I chalked it up to just being overly excited and anxious to start using this amazing device. Other than that I don’t have any complaints. I even appreciated the volume being quite sharp and loud with the option on the top of the pad to adjust to my comfort level. Lastly, one of my favorite aspects is the battery life, quite exceptional at over 8 hours. This two week trial makes me want the BlackBerry Playbook even more….sigh

BlackBerry PlayBook Luxury Accessories Collection

Last night, Marie Claire Creative Director, Nina Garcia and Style and Accessories Director, Taylor Tomasi Hill attended the Made for BlackBerry PlayBook Luxury Accessories Collection event at the Cooper Square Hotel in NYC. I’m sure several of you already have a BlackBerry PlayBook so now it’s time to accessorize it in style.

Research In Motion and Winkreative collaborated to curate a collection of accessories and cases that includes both industrial and luxury product designs from around the world, with designs from Brooklyn (Japan), Delvaux (Belgium), Ettinger (England), Ganzo (Japan), Porter (Japan), WANT Les Essentiels de la Vie (Canada) and Valextra (Italy). Fun, bold colors were seen in leather, neoprene and soft shell fabrications.
Valextra – crafted from full-bodied Italian leather, and lined with fine-grain calfskin, this sleek case offers an additional envelope pocket and punched hole for earphones. These luxe cases will guard your PlayBook from bumps, whether you’re at home, the office or in transit.

Ettinger – it’s no surprise that the case below is so chic because Ettinger has been making leather goods since 1934. Supple leather, hand-finished with inside compartments and pockets are key features. I’m in love with the bold red leather.

Brooklyn – another favorite; I love their trademark yellow stitching against the rich grainy Aqua and coral calfskin leathers. Like the Ettinger, the Brooklyn has inside compartments as well but it holds more – there’s room for your pen, business cards and notes.

Want Les Essentiels de la Vie – Though they do offer this Italian calfskin leather zippered wallet-style case in burnt henna, I love the ecru/black color block. It is right on trend to what’s going on in fashion and clothing accessories right now. Like the two previous styles, it too has inner slots for business cards, notes, etc

Delvaux – loving this leather journal which resembles a classic notebook but with a kick of bold color. It features a soft microfibre lining and an elastic closure.

Ganzo – though the colors of this tanned Minerva natural leather are not bold, they are rich and luxe. The interior features the softest suede which makes this luxe minimalist and streamlined leather case a first for the more classically chic consumer.

Porter – unlike the others, this Porter BlackBerry PlayBook case is not all leather. It is made from engineered nylon canvas with a leather handle and is only available in olive-khaki and black. This zipped carry-all contains custom storage slots for your notebook, BlackBerry Phone and a lined with ultra-soft microfibre for your PlayBook.

Blackberry Playbook – The New Tablet You’ll Take Everywhere

I was just telling my girlfriend how I go to Radio Shack every other weekend and ask for a demonstration (as well as test) the new Blackberry Playbook. I’m telling you guys, this is art right here. It is a beautiful piece of work. The imagery is so clear. The screen is huge (a vivid 7” high-res display), but the actual playbook is small. Does that make sense?

I’ll explain……it measures: 1/2 inch thick and weighs less than a pound. The imagery is so sharp that it appears to be 3D, it’s as if you are actually experiencing and not just viewing the entertainment, weather, gaming system, digital programming or files. The highly-responsive touch screen allows you to simultaneously view videos, web browsers, emails, apps and more. With dual HD cameras for video capture and conferencing and an HDMI port for external viewing, the BlackBerry Playbook offers an uncompromised multimedia experience. This tablet definitely surpasses expectations. Naturally it syncs with your Blackberry devises – via WiFi and Bluetooth. The cherry on top is that it’s only $499.99 for 16GB (also available in 32GB and 64GB versions). I hope to purchase mine very soon (budget willing) and give you guys and update on its function.
