Summer cocktails usually bring to mind margaritas, mojitos, and fruity drinks served over plenty of ice. But this summer, we had the pleasure of celebrating the season a little differently with cocktails that put an unexpected favorite in the spotlight: sake.

We recently welcomed a “Sake Summer” at TYKU After Hours, an evening dedicated to showing just how refreshing and versatile sake can be during the warmer months. The event brought together premium TYKU sake, creative cocktails, seasonal bites, and cool music for a laid-back celebration that felt made for summer.

What made the evening even more special for us was the chance to reconnect with TYKU Sake. TYKU feels a little like a cherished old friend. We enjoyed plenty of delicious moments with the brand from 2011 through 2014, so seeing TYKU back again gave us the perfect excuse to create some new memories, preferably with a cocktail in hand.

We started the evening with the Cucumber Cooler, and it was an instant summer favorite. Made with TYKU Junmai Ginjo, cucumber juice, lime juice, and agave syrup, the cocktail was light, crisp, and incredibly refreshing. The cucumber gave it a cool, clean flavor, while the lime added just enough brightness. It was the kind of drink that makes you want to find a shady spot, turn up the music, and enjoy the season.

Next up was the Strawberry Sake Spritz, another delicious take on a summer classic. This cocktail combines TYKU Sake Junmai with simple syrup, strawberry purée, lemon juice, and prosecco. The result is fruity, bubbly, and refreshing without feeling overly complicated. The strawberry brought a sweet summer flavor, while the lemon helped keep everything balanced.

Beyond the cocktails, the evening was a great reminder that sake is much more than something to enjoy with sushi or on a chilly evening. TYKU showed how easily sake can become part of the summer cocktail scene. Served neat or mixed into creative drinks, it brings a different personality to familiar flavors and opens up plenty of possibilities for warm-weather entertaining.

The seasonal bites served throughout the evening also highlighted sake’s versatility. Pairing food with different sake styles added another layer to the experience and made it easy to see why sake deserves a place at the summer table.
After spending an evening sipping, tasting, and enjoying the atmosphere at TYKU After Hours, we’re definitely ready for more Sake Summer. There is something wonderfully refreshing about taking a familiar season and giving it a new flavor.

For us, TYKU’s return feels like reconnecting with an old friend, only this time, that friend comes bearing chilled sake and some seriously delicious cocktails.
We’re looking forward to pouring another glass, raising a toast, and seeing where Sake Summer takes us next. Cheers to new memories, old favorites, and plenty of refreshing cocktails along the way!
