Wim Hof – World Record Attempt: Ice Endurance

Want to see something amazing? How about being a witness to what could be a World Record activity? Tomorrow, November 15th, Columbia Sportswear, along with Wim Hof, their quirky Omni-Heat Electric “anti-spokesperson,” will take New York City by (ice) storm.

Columbia Sportwear invites you to join them as Wim attempts to break the world record for full body ice endurance, live on national television, by standing in ice up to his neck for over 1 hour and 52 minutes. If you’re not familiar with his daredevil activities, you MUST check out his videos on Columbia Sportswear’s YouTube Channel – http://www.youtube.com/columbiasportswear.

CAn’t make it but still want to meet Wim – no worries. Wim will be available to meet face to face at the Columbia Freezer Tour in Bryant Park the very next day. The Columbia Freezer tour opened at Bryant Park in New York on Friday October 28th and goes through the end of November. The tour encourages consumers to take off their old outdated jackets and test a Columbia Omni-Heat jacket. Last year proved it: there is no better way to test an Omni-Heat than in a 7 foot freezer while singing karaoke!

From 5pm-9pm Friday evening, people visiting the Freezer Tour will have the chance to put on an Omni-Heat Electric jacket and recreate one of their print ads by taking a seat on a block of ice and getting their photo taken next to the legendary iceman himself, Wim Hof.

Columbia Sportswear Snowfall Thermo Boots – My Blizzard Savior

My goodness, we had one heck of a blizzard, didn’t we? While I was perfectly bundled up (thick sweater, coat, gloves, two scarves, earmuffs and snow boots), not everything was as effective as I needed it to be. When you’re looking at the snow from the warmth and safety of your heated home and fluffy slippers – it’s beautiful; but when you’re outside in the midst of over two feet of snow, its a slightly different perspective. And, although it’s great exercise, getting around in the stacked up white powder is not fun (well, except if you’re under the age of 12).

While rain boots are great for rain and sneakers fantastic for comfort, neither are great for snow but guess what, regular snow boots are not either. As we all know, snow melts – so those mountains of white powder become disgusting slush – the bane of our winter existence. After trying to stay upright while maneuvering through the mess, you can’t escape having soaked and freezing feet; at least that was me until I discovered Columbia Sportswear Women’s Snowfall Thermo Boots.

These very cute and innovative thermal boots have the world’s first integrated electric heating system built right in for hours of warmth and comfort. Other boots (like my old ones) have you running for the fireplace, space heater, etc with each step near any snow covered surface. I love the embossed full-grain leather and suede upper with faux fur cuff; the Omni-Grip® rubber compound out-sole which provided great traction against black ice and slippery sidewalks and it’s so lightweight. Columbia Sportswear is also equipped the Snowfall Thermo with Techlite, which is specially formulated to provide impact absorbing support, stability, and protection, so you can go the distance in comfort.

But the one thing they made me fall in love with the Women’s Snowfall Thermo Boots is the fact that it’s equipped with Omni-Heat®, a breakthrough thermal technology that helps maintain warmth and prevents heat loss, keeping you comfortable in cold weather. Omni-Heat® ensures you stay warm and comfortable in the most extreme cold conditions. The boots have a rechargeable battery that can be charged up for hours of warm and cozy feet at the push of a button. And my feet were definitely warm and cozy with these beauties – the only thing I’d note about these boots is to make sure you wear socks that are very thick around the ankle – the Snowfall Thermo Boot is very much like a ski boot, structured to keep your foot in place. Those not used to the stiffness will have to get used to your ankle’s natural movements being restricted which will result in a bit of rubbing but thick socks create a nice cushion against that. Other than that, these are absolutely perfect for the unpredictable winter season and seeing as February is usually a high snowfall month, the Columbia Sportswear Snowfall Thermo Boots are a must.

Baby its Fall Outside

It’s been too hot to wear clothes and it’s been annoying to do so until now. While I am not a fan of being caught in the rain, I do appreciate the break in the weather and the cool down. This cool down makes it so much easier to actually look at fall clothing. So on this cool rainy day, I could actually look at this adorable Explore Your Soul Tunic from Columbia Sportswear that’s been hanging in my closet since the summer

Not only is it comfortable, it’s freaking WATERPROOF – of yes I tested it out and it was amazing to see the water droplets sit on top of the fabric (thanks to the Omni-Shield advanced repellency). Not only does it keep you dry, it has “advanced evaporation technology and 4-way comfort stretch to keep you cool”. I also love the fact that it has double pockets which hit at the perfect arm length. I couldn’t help but take a photo of my sleeve

The Explore Your Soul Tunic comes in three colors – Tidewater (blue), Crushed Berry (shown above) and Greenscape (dark olive) and retails for $60.00. It is available in sizes XS – XL.

This temporary cooler weather has of course put me in a fall mood, so I will definitely try to fit in my other Columbia Sportswear items, like the Towering Tour Tunic, which easily transforms from long sleeve to 3/4 when you roll them up and snap into place with handy arm loops and closures. While on, this tunic kinda gives you a whole I’m off to safari feel which when you’re in the jungles of NYC is needed.

which retails $54.00 and is available in Pebble, Tidewater, Black Cherry (shown above), Greenscape and Black. This tunic is available in sizes XS – XL and the Black Cherry is also available in sizes 1X-3X.

The last item, which i’ll most like save for a particularly cool day (unless mother nature really throws us for a loop and we’re at 50 degrees tomorrow) is the Heathered Honey Long Hoodie

which retails for $60.00 and is available in Grill (grey), Mud (brown), Deep Teal and Black. My favorite thing about this hoodie besides its comfort are the princess lines on the front which makes wearing a hoodie very feminime. Ok, make that two favorite things because I love the fact that it has a shirt collar which is separate from the hoodie; the weight of hoods always make them slip back and your neck ends up getting cold. This tunic ends that issue. The Heathered Honey Tunic is available in sizes XS – XL and the Mud and Deep Teal are available in sizes 1X-3X

Columbia Sportswear will definitely have you ready for the unpredictable fall weather….now all I need are a pair if cute comfortable rain boots and i’ll be set.

Columbia Sportswear Fall 2010 Women’s Collection Launch

When you think of Columbia Sportswear, what comes to mind – jackets, fleece, scarfs, hats, those awesome commercials with mother and son or dresses? Yes, dresses.

Columbia recently took another look at what women are wearing and developed a collection that is not only technical but also fits Columbia’s consumer’s lifestyle. The company expanded its existing collection to include functional and fashionable pieces that appeals to the stylish woman on the go. The skirts and dresses are made of the same material Columbia is known for: Omni-dry (the ultimate moisture management technology) and Omni-shade (protection against damaging UV radiation).

I had the opportunity to try on several of the fall 2010 line pieces. My favorites were the Mighty Lite Jacket shown below (Retail $85.00) and the Explore Your Soul Tunic (Retail $75.00).

The Mighty Lite Jacket is an ultra-warm and lightweight jacket featuring Omni-heat thermal insulation and Omni-shield advanced sun ray protection. It has interior security pockets with a comfortable cuff and thumb holes. It was love at first sight when I saw the bold, red colored Mighty Lite Jacket. I slide into the jacket knowing I would like the fit but uncertain about its ability to keep me warm. As I suspected, the jacket fit perfectly. It was lightweight, form fitting and warm. Yes, it was warm. The warmth really surprised me given its lightweight. I am one of those people who believes that you have to wear a heavy, bulking jacket to stay warm. But when I wear those heavy jackets I feel restricted, weighed down and dowdy. This jacket made me feel stylish while feeling warm, which is exactly what I wanted.

Explore Your Soul Tunic (which will be available this fall) is a great layering piece featuring material that protects you from harmful sun rays while being water and stain resistant. The material is perfect for vacation travel or fall days in New York when the weather can change on a dime. Even though the medium sized tunic was large on me, I could still feel how comfortable the material felt against my skin and see how fashionable the design looked on my body type. The tunic is designed so a woman can dress it up with a wide belt and jeggings or wear it by itself to look fashionable while strolling down the sidewalk of Paris or the streets of New York. The best part is that you will be smiling, regardless of the weather, because your tunic is ready for anything…rain or shine.
