Mobile Phones: Bad Habit Or Harmful Addiction?

Despite the rise in addiction numbers, many people still question whether mobile phone addiction can even be considered a true form of addiction. However, the facts suggest that phone use has been rising to harmful levels among the general public. As much as 91% of all U.S. citizens have their smartphone or other mobile devices within reach 24/7, demonstrating a worrying level of dependence on these mobile marvels.

Additionally, most people keep their phones in near constant use, rather than just frequently available. The average person spends 36% more time using their mobile phone than they spend eating and drinking, based on average time spent daily on each activity. This implies that not only do people feel the need to have their phone always available, they’re also using it with shocking frequency.

Addiction On The Rise: Trend Likely To Continue

With the way technology continues to bleed into a wide variety of daily activities, it’s very likely this general dependency on smartphones will continue, if not worsen. People are purchasing new technology at alarming rates to keep up as society starts to demand the use of mobile phones; almost 395 iPhones are sold every minute. This figure does not count other brands of smartphones, meaning the problem is going to continue as these figures rise.

Breaking The Habit: What You Can Do To Reduce Dependency

While society continues to insist on increased smartphone dependency, there are still ways to help reduce your reliance on technology. Several apps exist to help those who are suffering from mobile phone or social media addiction. These apps and online programs limit the time that the user can access certain websites or programs, helping people reduce their digital use. This option, however, does not always work in more extreme cases; or in situations where social media access is necessary for professional situations.

Still, others have been beating their dependency on their phone by, shockingly, using a second phone. Many people have taken to purchasing a dumb phone in addition to their smartphone – a simple flip phone or similar device used exclusively for functions like making calls and sending simple texts. By making these devices their primary phones, these people are able to avoid the temptations of most smartphones. This includes social media, distracting apps, and more.

So, did you figure out if you are addicted to your smartphone? Has your smartphone or mobile phone use reached addiction levels? If so, how do you plan to reduce your phone use, if at all?

TECH REVIEW | HTC One Smartphone

The HTC One has been touted as the best Android smartphone available today. As a Samsung Galaxy S4 user, I took the challenge to see how amazing this android phone is and this post is my result. First, the HTC One offers great, crisp sound quality for both calls and music. I particularly love Dual frontal stereo speakers with built-in amplifiers, it makes multitasking on and off your phone a wonderfully stress-free experience with great sound quality. The HTC BoomSound™ with Beats Audio™ and HDR Recording combine to deliver a sharper and richer sound experience and HTC Sense Voice™ that boosts call volume and quality in noisy environments (I can’t tell you at how many noisy events this came in handy).

Visually, the screen resolution is superb; it features a gorgeous 4.7-inch, full-HD 1080p screen, which offers 468ppi resolution and rich, natural colors. The HTC’s UltraPixel Camera redefines the capture and creation of content with a f/2.0 aperture lens and sensor, gathering 300% more light than traditional camera sensors and HTC Zoe™ that enables your high-res photos to come to life by capturing up to 20 photos and a 3-second video. There were lots of moments when people commented on how great my photos were. I didn’t play games on it (not that much of a gamer) but I’ve heard wonderful things and it seems to stand up to that reputation. When it comes to streaming videos, using the GPS, and other key functions, the HTC One is in a word …….amazing.

Other key features includes HTC BlinkFeed™, a bold new the new standard experience that transforms the home screen of your phone into a live stream of personal content – do you find yourself more active on one social media network than the others? Have all your favorite content streamed one one screen as its happening. The HTC One also has a distinct zero-gap aluminum unibody (I love the new bold red HTC One – pictured above – that launched in August) and tapered edges for a slim comfortable grip.

My only qualms are I wish it had a longer battery life (I love the S4’s battery life), it is heavier than the S4 and I wish it had a microSD slot for more storage, other than that, this is a great phone.

My #HTCOne X+ Playlists | My Music, My Soul

I’m the type of person who always needs a little noise, a little music in the background. I’m known for chair dancing (sofa dancing, floor dancing…sitting on the floor that is). As a blogger, inspiration or writing angle can come from anywhere and music plays a big one in mine. This is why my HTC OneX+ has several playlists that not only keep my body moving but keeps my favorite songs (old and new) with me always. The beauty of the HTC One X+, you have several music app choices already available and of course you can always download more. Shown are my phone’s music app, Soundhound (which competes with shazaam in music recognition), TuneIn Radio (lets you listen to music from all over the world) and Spotify. **the below photo was taken before I downloaded the almighty Pandora**

Below are screenshots of my Spotify and my music transfers from my itunes (try not to judge my 1990 and early 2000 music overloads). I have quite a few songs that I listen to while I blog, clean my living room, even two songs to get me going in the morning (I am so not a morning person)

My morning pick-me-up songs? a little bit of 90’s with Nick Kershaw’s “Wouldn’t it be Good”, it’s just so sunny and optimistic – I usually have this on repeat 2-3 times and then the real get-me-out-of-bed/strut my stuff/fabulous song, this is the song I normally do my housework to, I run to this song, I do my NYC streets catwalk to it….just about every time I need a pick me up or I’m feeling celebratory – Bob Sinclair’s “Love Generation”. I know I’m not the only one who does this, so what songs get you guys going?

Right now I am having a blast with Pandora, building up my stations and enjoying all the music recommendations – I highly recommend using Soundhound and Pandora, you discover new music and old favorites and get some amazing recommendations.

While listening to music on my HTC OneX+, I was inspired to share this quote:

One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain.” ― Bob Marley
