Get Dad Back In The Game!: Top Father’s Day Picks From The Accessories Council

Have you even started the mad dash yet?  The scramble?  The perpetual motion of second guessing, what ‘iffing’, noggin tapping and department store scurrying that always happens around Father’s Day? You haven’t?  Well you’re not alone!  Much like the men’s sections in department stores, pharmacies and boutiques, the male customer always gets the short end of the stick (or the back corner of the selling floor).

Well if you haven’t noticed by now, a Male Renaissance has been going full swing for the last few years now.  They’ve become demanding and not complacent to just accept what the women in their lives propose.  With a wider array of products & styles offered and more attention being paid to them in stores, men are gradually coming into their own in regards to voicing what they want.  Of course, that doesn’t make it any easier to decide what to snag for Dad this Father’s Day, or does it?  If there’s more to offer then there’s more to choose from.  This means that instead of the time-honored ‘dad’ tie or three pack of dress socks, the options for Father’s Day suddenly have more depth, range and the ‘oh-so-overlooked’ cool factor.
Who knows this all too well but the Accessories Council.  Their top Father’s Day picks are walks in updated classics, modern notions and those little accents that men have gravitated towards in order to  differentiate their collective roars from the rest of the pride.

Clockwise from top left:  J Fold full grain vegetable tanned Italian leather wallets are a classic need in an updated fashion, Dr. Scholl’s Jason oxford are a nice way to keep him fashion forward and comfy as these are equipped with a velour suede upper, Memory fit foam® and cushy EVA midsole, Oliver Peoples Becket Sunglasses are a classic tortoise in the hands of a modern eyewear expert and Vasi Moda gives him just that little accent he needs to freshen up that somber sport coat with their colorful and exquisite silk pocket squares handcrafted in Como, Italy.

Clockwise from top left: Notes like citron, iced gin and lavender never smelled so fresh and clean with this new signature fragrance from Vince CamutoJack + Mulligan have very good-looking and simply cool dopp kits for the traveling man to fit all his grooming needs (I should know; I have one and love it) and the style impresarios at Esquire have shirts and ties on the pulse of style to suit the many kinds of men.

The modern man wear hats, but just make it cooler than his dad’s. David & Young offers up some pretty sweet fedoras that serve as the perfect topper for that charismatic outfit or that charismatic guy as well as many handsome hats and scarves.  Celebrities such as Kellan Lutz and Jay Alexander approve.

Clockwise from top left: Therapeutic can be stylish!  Such is the case with Soxxy and their Nighthawk Compression Socks that create circulation and reduces selling and muscle soreness all while looking pretty cool with nice colors and designs and it’s classic but make it his own with Auburn Jewelry customizable sterling silver cufflinks.  Each piece is handcrafted to order.  Be original for him or let him be the wild one with a gift certificate to customize his own pair.
No need to panic come June 15th.  Peruse these unique selections and others offered by these charismatic brands and make the dads in your life even cooler than he may already be.

Father’s Day is June 15, 2014!

Skingraft Spring 2014 Collection

Spring and Summer in California seems to be a time for edgy leather. Granted, the leather is played off by the softest, most lightweight and flowy silk chiffon, but it seems that Skingraft will make sure that you have the perfect moto jacket, skirt, and leather dress to take you into the warmer months.

The collection boasts razor sharp lines and edgy tailoring which left me thinking about the movie, Blade Runner… both for its retro and futuristic aspects. The Replicant, Rachel, would be perfectly at home wearing looks from this collection. I love the idea of the black leather body-con dress worn with ankle strap spectator pumps and a rolled, “Andrews Sisters-esque” hairstyle. Tres chaud!

The corresponding menswear designs were ruggedly individualistic, a slickly rock and roll slouch. As with other designers (the Prada Birkenstock anyone?), Skingraft used the humble shower sandal as inspiration for their footwear – think Mark Zuckerberg in The Social Network. The fabrications say your clothes cost tons, but your attitude is totally, “Bro, I’m chill”.

Hot trends from this collection included the combination of black and yellow, blue/black/white tribal print for men and women. Check out the link to show’s finale video here – http://fashionzombie1.tumblr.com/post/60927491800/skingraft-at-pier-59-studios-guestblogging-for

Influencers Style Runway Looks at the StyleList x NMRKT Spring 2014 Show

Normally bloggers and editors get invited to the most coveted fashion shows to view the latest collections that designers send down the runways. Based on what they see, these same bloggers and editors choose what they want to write about and what pieces will make it onto their trend lists. StyleList X NMRKT switched it up a bit and put twenty bloggers and editors into the role of stylist and allowed them to send their own interpretations of what Spring/Summer 2014 might look like down the runway. You can “meet” StyleList’s stylists HERE. While style is subjective, I think the chosen twenty did a great job capturing an essence of what spring and summer will look like from a street style perspective. My personal four favorite looks were the following:

Sartorial, The Swedish Way: Fjällräven Mens Pop-Up Shop

Traces of the the Sweden have popped up off the Bowery and I’m not talking meatballs. I am talking great hearty knit sweaters, backpacks and trousers that take a licking and parkas that walk the thin line between outerwear and down comforter. Fjällräven, the Swedish lifestyle clothing brand, has announced that they want a piece of that masculine vanity that’s infecting menswear as of late with a pop-up shop for the holidays. Located at 21 Howard Street between Crosby and Lafayette Streets, the shop features all the wears that have made Fjällräven attain a cult following and the set-up is maintained by the local Brooklyn-based Square Design Inc.

So what’s in store for New York men and other passersby? The Fjällräven experience of course. Up for grabs is their famed Kånken and other backpacks in a variety of cool colors and their solid and quite attractive “no fail” parkas, anoraks and down coats.

Why no fail? Well, try one on and feel the quality of the poly-cottons and nylons and the plush undeniably warm interiors and understand what you need for a brutal winter anywhere. The wool knits, überstrong trousers and the great work inspired woven shirts are of superb quality and perform the dual function of supplying you with good craftsmanship while maintaining an “easy to wear the hell out” of vibe. And speaking of wear & tear, the shop also offers their Greenland Wax that reinforces their G-1000 poly-cotton fabric against wind, rain and wear.

Special to this pop-up shop will also be an offering of third-party brands that adhere to the Fjällräven aesthetic of strength and craftsmanship like Schwood Sunglasses, Hestra Gloves, Apolis Accessories, Darn Tough Socks, Granffors Bruks Axes and Rustico Leathers for Fjällräven.

It’s a bit of the Matterhorn in the heart of Gotham City conveniently located near other cult brands like Jil Sander, Dunderdon, Reformation and Opening Ceremony. So swing on by and check out all the world that Fjällräven has rendered for men to enjoy the splendor of Swedish swag. The shop will be open through February 28th at 21 Howard Street and will be offering 30% off for those who donate a gently used winter coat for Hurricane Sandy Victims.

Sexy Sweatshirts: The Most Awesome Sweatshirts You Can’t Buy

Some people may think of the following sweatshirts as “a bit much” or “tacky” but that is exactly what makes them so awesome. The in-your-face designs from Sexy Sweatshirts are not for the weak of mind, style or personality. If you command attention, then these will be no problem to pull off.

sexy sweatshirt2 sexy sweatshrts1

Though they are featured on Sexy Sweatshirts‘s Tumblr page, they are far from sexy. They’re the basic sweatshirt silhouettes – boxy, no hoods, zippers, drawstrings, etc of any kind but what they lack in shape, they more than make up in audacity and graphics. Unfortunately, most of these sweatshirts have copyright images and are not available for sale (a shame because I would kill for Anna Wintour and Pearls sweatshirts). While they can’t sell them, they do giveaways; in fact, they’re doing on right now – check out their Facebook page for details – http://www.facebook.com/pages/Sexy-Sweaters/176622765759830. Hopefully, we can get our hands on some of these soon. We’re praying that this somehow turns into a successful sweatshirt company….otherwise, we’d have to try to do this ourselves.

What do you think of the cool sweatshirt designs from Sexy Sweatshirts? Do you have one or more favorites? Which ones would you buy for yourself?
