Fashion Photography: Plus Size Swimwear for Women

JCPenney and Jessica Milagros Celebrate the Launch of Boutique+ Swim

With every cold day, every snowstorm we’ve had, we’ve been praying for the quick arrival of the warmth of the summer season. There may still be snow on the ground, but we’re already looking forward to swimsuit season, and so is JCPenney. The famed retailer has expanded its plus-size private label brand, Boutique+, to include swimwear that fits and flatters curvy silhouettes of all sizes. This first Boutique+ Swim collection is in collaboration with Jessica Milagros, the first plus-size Latina model to land a national campaign with JCPenney.

One major concern of plus size fashionistas, besides options and availability of fashionable choices, is the fact that they’re not able to try on swimsuits in stores. Their only option is to order online, try on at home and return what they don’t want but JCPenney is changing that with the Boutique+ Swim collection. Ladies that wear sizes 1x-3x can purchase the swimwear collections both online AND in-store. JCPenney has been creating a wonderful haven for plus-size fashion lovers. You may remember their fab collaboration with Boutique+ plus-size fashion and Project Runway’s Ashley Nell Tipton.

The expanded swimwear collection was celebrated with a wonderful pool party at the Parker Hotel in NYC. Curvy girls of all sizes were rocking one-piece and two-piece swimsuits from the expanded collection. Along with enjoying a break from the winter cold, attendees enjoyed indulging in the pool, customizing and personalizing Tote bags and flip-flops, and an indoor burger grilling station.

As previously stated, each stylish swimsuit is specially-engineered for sizes 1x-3x and features adjustable straps, molded cups, tummy control, and power mesh. Check out Jessica Milagros rocking swimwear from the collection below:

The Boutique+ Swim collection is available exclusively at www.jcpenney.com and in select JCPenney stores now, with additional styles rolling out in April. Are you ready for swimsuit season? What’s your favorite Boutique+ Swim collection piece?

JCPenney teamed up with Project Runway Season 14 Winner Ashley Nell Tipton, who will serve as Boutique+’s brand ambassador and design two capsule collections for the plus-size fashion brand, to welcome the new initiatives. The launch was celebrated with a runway show at JCPenney’s Manhattan Hall location hosted by Ashley Nell Tipton.

JCPenney’s Vibrant Spring 2015 Collection

The things we truly love about fashion are the bold use of color and energetic prints. After months and months of dreary weather, gloomy colors and dank winter days, we appreciate the vast array of bright, happy colors, and lively prints, that the season of “newness” provides. This is why we are so in love with the vibrancy and buoyancy of JCPenney’s Spring 2015 offerings. The bold prints, graphic patterns and vivacious colors are what kept us going throughout the volatile winter, and we can’t wait to indulge in the offerings from Worthington, Nanette Lepore, Nicole by Nicole Miller, I Heart Ronson, Bisou Bisou, etc.

Prints that ranged from florals, to stripes, to digital patterns and are available in dresses, skirts, blouses, etc, with the bold patterns shown in women’s sportswear, office and daywear, with the bold patterns even moving into activewear, accessories, and footwear.

While we will definitely include a few solids and soft pastels to our ever-expanding spring wardrobe…..what better way to highlight a print then with a solid, our hearts truly lies with the joyous and upbeat feeling an eye-catching item brings. Speaking of eye-catching, and although we mentioned a few accessories, we’re drooling over the statement jewelry and classic handbags also available from JCPenney this spring. It doesn’t matter what color they are, we must get our hands on some of these pieces. We know you’d agree.

Are you loving the JCPenney spring 2015 offerings? We’ve shared our favorite items for this spring, what are you looking forward to most wearing this spring?

Art in Color & Patterns | Duro Olowu for jcpenney Collection

There are times when I feel truly blessed….more than usual of course. I know I’m luckier than most and I so appreciate that but there are moments when I feel extra lucky. One of those moments happened during New York Fashion Week at the brunch celebration for the Duro Olowu for jcpenney Collection. I love beautiful standout prints and this London-based designer is brilliant with his lively prints and unique patterns. His blending of patterns are definitely fashionable art, they give new life to classic feminine silhouettes and shapes.

Though the collection isn’t out yet, it launches March 1st, I already have quite a list of items I want to add to my personal collection, my ultimate top three must-have clothing favorites being the trench coat, sheath dress and multi-colored checkerboard sweater (to start).

Duro Olowu jcpenney Collection

The accessories I’m still drooling over – the stunning Ram necklace, eye-catching “hand-painted canvas” and snakeskin print medium tote, the wild patterned shoes (which matches the trench coat I’m dying for), and the horn necklace are just a few of the dazzling array of unique and bold offerings from the collection.

Ladies, get acquainted with this London-based, Nigerian native lawyer-turned-amazing-fashion-designer (pictured directly below), as soon as his collection hits, you are sure to see sold out signs across jcpenney.

The event was one of my favorite Fashion Week events to attend, imagine Sunday brunch while shopping and getting beauty treatments all at once – heaven for any woman. Check out a video snippet of the atmosphere.

Check out a few more images from the event including a great photo capture of designer, Byron Lars (pictured below), creator of the shirt dress, high heeled Timberland Boots, etc and don’t forget to visit jcpenney on March 1st to get your hands on the Duro Olowu for jcpenney Collection.

Last Minute Holiday Gift Ideas for the “Hard to Gift”

Though you may try, you are not the “Six months in advance Christmas gift shopper”, it’s partly because you think you have plenty of time or maybe some people in your life are a bit more difficult to shop for. You usually find yourself scrambling for the perfect gift or at least one that isn’t so terrible. If you agree with these statements and a few of the following random “types” fit into your problem gifting list, then please read on.

Miss “It’s my Favorite Lipstick”

When it comes to beauty gifts, it’s pretty much a great gift and its not difficult to spot the beauty lovers in your life. For example, if her favorite lipgloss, lipstick or eyeshadow appear non-existent yet she insists there’s still some left – you’ve got a beauty lover. A wonderful gift for such a person is the LipStix ReMix™

A patent-pending system containing everything you need to Re-Color your lipstick, Recover lipstick in the bottom of the tube and Repair a broken lipstick. Beauty lovers know the old trick about putting lipgloss tubes in hot water to get more use out of it, layering one lipstick over another for that person shade and the heartbreaking feeling of their favorite lipcolor breaking in half. This kit will be an amazing stocking stuffer.

Miss “Don’t You Love This Perfume”

We all know fragrance is an extremely personal thing but there are some fragrances that are loved by all and in other forms (yes my dears, not all fragrances are liquid) can be a major hit. A huge favorite is the Lolita Lempicka Parfums and they have an amazing Shimmering Powdered Perfume

The perfect combination of the first Lolita Lempicka fragrance and an incredibly fine, gossamer-light powder with a golden shimmer. The high concentration of pure, fine talc leaves the skin soft and delicate. The addition of tiny sparkling fragments of mauve and gold mother-of-pearl gives this fragrant powder a jewel-like shimmer. What more can you ask for when you combine a sultry scent, touchable soft skin and a bit of sparkle.

Miss “I need a Fun Cover/Case For My ….”

This person embraces fashion. Their closet is full of various chic colors, prints, textures, styles and even their accessories have personality. If you have one of those fabulous gems then you need to introduce them to Vera Bradley (I’m pretty sure they’re probably acquainted though).

Known for their bold, colorful and eye-catching paisley and floral prints, Vera Bradley bags and accessories are definite standouts. Gifting someone with the stylish quilted cotton luggage, handbags and accessories with distinctive and colorful fabrics and trims are sure to make it a very happy holiday.

Miss “I am a 80’s Baby”

If you know what a slap bracelet is then this next gift is right up your alley. A time of great music, style and accessories; celebrate and reminisce about that wonderful era with some great stocking stuffers from RumbaTime Watches

Though they do offer several styles that are either buckle or snap on, the 80’s child in me loves the slap on styles and of course you get extra cool points when wearing one of these named after some of the coolest streets in NYC. Check out (in order of appearance) the Perry, Broadway, Broadway Mini, Broadway Hex and Broadway Hex Digital featured below, all are available in an array of slap on colors.

The Broadway Hex has an additional bonus features, pop out the watch face of any Broadway HEX and swap in a different color band to create whatever color combo that matches your mood (or your wardrobe).

Miss “Hostess with the Mostess”

You love attending the parties she has, she is like super woman in keeping everyone happy, fed and drinking. A bottle of wine will do for typical party gifting but at Christmas time, why not wow her with some of these amazing gifts all available at jcpenney.com.

This non-lead glass Libbey® 10-piece Punch Bowl Set includes a 13½-qt. punch bowl, eight 11-oz. punch cups and ladle. Don’t be surprised if you get invited to even more parties. Of course if she’s also loves to bake…

The Bella Mini Donut Maker will be a hit. This very wallet-friendly Donut maker will allow her to cook moist, delicious donuts that are a healthier alternative to deep-fried donuts and the ability to wow her guests with her delicious recipes.

I hope this helps a few of you get a better idea of what to get the “hard to get for” women on your list. Happy Holidays.
