Luxury Fit for a Queen: Rigby & Peller Lingerie Stylists London

Our degree of separation from the Queen was officially dropped to one thanks to the US launch of Rigby & Peller Lingerie Stylists London. We were one of the lucky few who had the chance to preview the new flagship location in New York and have a sit down with the Queen’s fitter, the very charming June Kenton. The renowned lingerie retailer, founded in the UK in 1939 by two female corsetières, Gita Peller and Bertha Rigby, has expanded to our side of the pond with 13 US locations.

The Rigby & Peller Lingerie Stylists London stores, who believes every woman should be properly fitted every six months, brings their distinctive and rich heritage of more than 75 years in the premium lingerie business and their signature luxury service pioneered by the company called “Lingerie Styling.”

“Van de Velde is committed to bringing the Rigby & Peller brand to the American woman,” says Dirk De Vos, Director of Retail at Van de Velde, Rigby & Peller’s parent company. “We will bring a high level of service paired with premium product offerings to the American consumer under a brand that brings years of experience in Lingerie Styling and which also holds the Royal Warrant of H.M. Queen Elizabeth II.”

Each Rigby & Peller store carries more than 90 bra sizes ranging from A to K cup. Their amazing personal shopping and fitting experience is like no other (you know your girls will be well carried when each Rigby & Peller bra contains 45 components, as opposed to the usual 25 and each Rigby & Peller bra takes 30 minutes to assemble). They go beyond supplying the typical bra for all your garments and encourage having styles that keep up with seasonal trends and fashionable colors. In fact, Mrs. Kenton stated just as women have various garments and shoes in their closets, they should also have different bras: a t-shirt bra, a bra for seduction, a bra that makes us feel beautiful, and so on. We’re really excited about the fact that they also offer swimwear with swim tops that fit and support you as wonderfully as their bras too.

The stores carry premium brands like Marie Jo, PrimaDonna, Aubade, Empreinte, Simone Pérèle and many more, with a range of brands exclusive to the Rigby & Peller’s US stores, including Le Chat, Barbara, On Gossamer, Hanky Panky, Jonquil and In Bloom. The first of our favorite moments of the evening (the second was interviewing June Kenton…see below for the video) was being fitted and finding a gorgeous plunge bra that didn’t only fit our bountiful girls, but our naughty side as well. Behold the Aubade Tickle Belle Bra, a knockout bursting with seductive details, such as the removable, fringed plumetis tulle bow, which can be used for lots of fun purposes.

Check out the video of our interview with the incredibly sweet and hilarious June Kenton. We know it was a bit cheeky, but we had to ask the first question but, of course being the proper lady Mrs. Kenton is, we’re not surprised that we didn’t get one. It was a wonderful evening just the same. Enjoy the video below and please forgive our lack of makeup (it was a rough day):

In addition to Rigby & Peller’s new U.S. stores, the brand also has locations in the United Kingdom, Germany, Denmark, Hong Kong and China. To learn more about Rigby & Peller or to make an appointment to receive a personalized Lingerie Styling session, visit or pop into their NYC Flagship at 104 5th Avenue.

Sisley Paris Opens First Freestanding New York Boutique

Just in time for the holiday and gift-giving season, renowned luxury French beauty brand Sisley has opened its first freestanding New York boutique. With design details hand-selected by members of the d’Ornano family, who founded and still owns the brand to this day, the new boutique draws influences from its heritage. With the look of a beautiful, welcoming home that entices you to stay for hours, the boutique perfectly marries Sisley’s Parisian roots with its downtown New York location.

During our time touring the chic boutique, we enjoyed the most delicious scones and cake pops from Danielle Marullo’s Got Room for More, as we swooned over the pastel tropical-print wallpaper, designed and hand-made by famed UK wallpaper designer, Marthe Armitage (it was such a wonderful contrast to the cold outside), and the very modern chandelier made-to-order by Brooklyn-based artist, Lindsay Adelman. Both remarkable design elements were great compliments to the brightness of the boutique’s interior.

Located in the West Village at 343 Bleecker St, the stunning 760-square-foot boutique offers Sisley’s acclaimed skincare, make-up and fragrance collections, as well as their outstanding beauty treatments in its spa room, all of which will make any beauty lover’s holiday more luxurious. Have a special event to go to? Get primped and pampered in the private make-up area, created especially for special occasion make-up needs.

“We wanted the boutique to feel warm and inviting,” said Christine d’Ornano, Sisley’s International Vice President and daughter of Founder, Hubert d’Ornano. “Less like a retail space and more like an apartment where you can come and discuss your skin’s needs, have a facial or have your make up done before a party. A Sisley home in downtown New York.”

We strongly advise visiting this chic beauty haven, just a fair warning, you may not want to leave.

Kiehl’s Opens New Nolita Location w/ Orange is the New Black Cast

With a line that stretched beyond the length of a city block, beauty lovers were eager to celebrate the grand opening of the newest Kiehl’s store location, #KiehlsNolita, get the chance to win a giftcard worth up to $1000 towards a Kiehl’s shopping spree, and party with castmembers of Orange is the New Black.

On hand to celebrate the grand opening with Chris Salgardo, President of Kiehl’s USA, and Artist Marilyn Minter, were three of the most loved actresses from the hit show, including Uzo Aduba, Selenis Leyva, and Laverne Cox.

Other notable guests included Artist/Musician Casey Spooner (pictured directly below in denim with Chris Salgardo), and Singer-Songwriter, Justin Vivian Bond (pictured below in blue).

The grand opening also unveiled a new Marilyn Minter piece (featured below), which was created exclusively for the Kiehl’s Nolita store that will be displayed permanently at the location. The piece also served as artwork for the limited edition Kiehl’s + Marilyn Minter tote, which purchase benefited Planned Parenthood of New York City.

The event was of course amazing, the orange is the New Black cast was ever so gracious and took photos with anyone who asked. For more photos from the event, please check out the slideshow below:

Birchbox: Shaking the Beauty Retail Table w/ its New Store

Last Friday I, along with other bloggers, got the opportunity to get a VIP sneak peek of Birchbox‘s new retail store and I was majorly impressed. I love a good beauty store and I visit Sephora on a weekly basis, however, the Birchbox retail experience is different. Remember when Sephora first launched, it created an alternative solution for beauty retail, as it wasn’t a department store or drugstore type of experience. It was set apart from the norm. I feel that Birchbox has done a great job in setting itself apart retail-wise.

The “.com experience” in person

Birchbox did a great job of ensuring the brand experience was continued offline. Whether you’re online or in-store it feels the same and the process is seamless. To top it off, you can use the points you earn from your monthly boxes to contribute towards full size products in store.

Categorical Shopping

Another differentiating factor is the layout of the store. Rather than separating products by brand, the store is separated by category. All the fragrances are together, as are the cheek products, as are the skin are products, and so on and so forth. With this model, the “discovery” theme continues offline. So typically I would go to Sephora for specific items, but now I may go to Birchbox to be more spontaneous.

Homage to “This Month’s Box” and Top Selling Products

If you want to know what’s new and hot, there is a dedicated section featuring what to expect in the latest monthly box beauty must-haves and the top selling products. A must for you beauty lovers who just can’t wait to get your Birchbox or who needs to grab a gift for another beauty addict.

BYOB: Build your own birchbox

I was excited to see that Birchbox kept the build your own birchbox section. Just as you can do online, you select samples from what is available (which changes periodically) in each category. Still, for only $15, you can get your “sample on” right away, no waiting for it to come via snail mail.

Try a Trend Stations

The “try a trend” stations are super cute. When you’re online, it’s easy to Google what the latest trend is and how to replicate it. Try the latest eyebrow arch or the hottest new lipcolor, Birchbox makes it easy with lots of products and visuals. In store, the incredibly helpful and knowledgeable staff are ready to share their expertise.

What’s Downstairs? Quick Styling Services and Birchbox Man/ lifestyle

The downstairs is awesome because you can get quick styling services such as makeup application, hair and nails. While on the VIP tour, I got to enjoy a nail service. The prices are $10.00 for a quick polish change and $30.00 for nail designs on every finger. Now, in my mind, an actual manicure to me requires water, cutting and nurturing the nail and for $30.00 you get none of that. With that said, I wouldn’t use the services part of the store. I would just go for new product discovery and to play!

Jonty Jacobs Opens New York’s First South African-Style Biltong Shop

At the beginning of the year (during the craziness of the Polar Vortex), we highlighted some of the snacks we were pigging out on while stuck inside and away from the cold, you can refresh your memories here – 5 Foods We’ve Been Enjoying During the Polar Vortex. One of those five foods was Jonty Jacobs Fine Beef Products – Biltong (dried meat slices) and Droewors (dried sausage). Cut to the warm months of July, which not only brought us hot, sunny days, but the debut of Jonty Jacobs first Biltong Shop; actually New York’s First South African-Style Biltong Shop.

The quaint shop, located at 114 Christopher Street (between Bleecker and Hudson) in the heart of the West Village, will allow patrons to custom-order their gourmet cuts of beef by choosing the type of biltong (traditional, grass-fed or aged), lean or traditional, with or without spice and cut-style (chunks, shreaded or – for the aged biltong – prosciutto-style thin-cut).

Jonty Jacobs tapped South African chef and entrepreneur Hugo Uys to consult on menu development. The event’s menu features Boere Wors Rolls with a homemade ginger peach chutney, and Curry-flavored Sosaties, which were paired with Seven Sisters Wine.

The Jonty Jacobs shop will offer prepackaged droewors (dried beef sausage) available with or without spice, boerewors (south-african style sausage) available in regular beef, grass fed, lamb or pork, sosaties (marinated and skewered meat) available in all beef, beef, lamb and pork or lamb and beef. Satya Jewelry Store Opening

Satya Jewelry, the inspiring and beautiful jewelry collection, recently held an event to celebrate their new store opening at the Time Warner Center. If you’re not familiar with the brand, best friends Satya Scainetti and Beth Torstrick Ward’s yoga-inspired jewelry collection includes necklaces, bracelets and earrings with the following symbols – Om, Hamsa, Lotus, Tree of Life, Ganesha, etc.

The packed event treated guests to henna tattoos, tarot card readings, delicious cocktails and hors d’oeuvres while pieces were displayed in glass cases and models stood on platforms showcasing more pieces from the collection. i also had the pleasure of meeting the co-founders as their posed for a quick photo in between introducing attendees to their collection.

Standout pieces from the Satya Jewelry Collection included the Python Necklace (two serpents crossing paths), Sunburst Cuff (features a dramatic sunburst embellished with a citrine stone), Sunbeam Necklace (sun rays collar with two bezel set citrine stones) and the 18kt Boa Earrings (not pictured). Brooklyn You’re a Work of Art: Sephora Brooklyn Opening

The opening of Sephora’s Brooklyn location was indeed a grand event. Hundreds of hopefuls lined up in the wee hours of the morning in hopes of winning one of a hundred Sephora gift cards containing varied amounts up to $1000.

Cheerful Sephora Brooklyn employees came out in their uniforms and danced for the crowd to hip hop music from Brooklyn natives.

Once Inside, mass pandemonium hit with people clamoring to any empty display space to try the unused product testers. Fresh hot and cold press coffee by Morris Kitchen via Stumptown roasters was provided along with pastry bites, a fun photo booth by the good folks over at Bosco and a general atmosphere of a good time.

Celebrity makeup artist John Lemon taught a workshop on how to use natural ingredients from the kitchen with products you can buy in store to customize your products. Workshop participants got to use spices and natural ingredients such as nutmeg, cinnamon, cocoa powder and others to mix with cosmetics.
