Can you believe the back to school season is almost here! As we head into the end of July, we can’t help but think that for many, school reopens in the mid to late August. So it’s time to really think about the upcoming school season. We had the great opportunity to kicked off the back-to-school season with Singer/Actress Hailee Steinfeld and Post-it Brand. An event with a wonderful surprise performance by Hailee (keep reading to see the video of her performance).

We were among the very lucky few who got the chance to attend this wonderful event, which was a joint effort with Hailee Steinfeld and Post-it Brand to celebrate the back-to-school season and inspire students to dream big, set goals and make them stick.  The other attendees? Students from the NYC chapter of national non-profit After-School All-Stars, a program that provides comprehensive after-school programs that keep children safe and help them succeed in school and life. The program strives to ensure that be safe and healthy, to graduate high school and go to college, to find careers they love and then give back to their communities.

The kids had a great time dancing and playing with the available Post-It Notes. The Hailee Steinfeld and Post-it back-to-school event offered several interactive things to do including writing down special song requests on Post-It Extreme Notes and posting it on a brick wall for the DJ and sharing what motivates them, what they’re thinking about, and what are they looking forward to.

We also enjoyed an exclusive preview of the new products from the Post-it Brand, an interactive Q&A with Hailee Steinfeld and Remi Kent, Global Business Director of the Post-it Brand, and the aforementioned one-of-a-kind performance by Hailee. With this event, Post-it Brand helped to inspire students like the ones from After-School All-Stars NYC. We are certainly inspired and can’t wait to share our goals, to-do lists and dreams on some of the absolutely adorable new launches from Post-It Brand. We especially love the Polaroid Camera and White Ceramic Bear Post-It Notes dispensers, the Emoji and state-shaped Post-It Notes, and of course, the previously covered Post-It Extreme Notes. Michelle Monaghan and Alba Botanica Skin & Hair Care Celebrate Women

Thanks to Alba Botanica Skin & Hair Care, a wonderful botanical-based, natural and 100% vegetarian skincare brand, we enjoyed a night of celebrating some amazing women and the incredible work they’ve been doing. Alba’s Do Good, Do Beautiful grant program awarded two female grant winners who are doing wonderful things, at this event with special celebrity guest, Michelle Monaghan. Founded in 2017, the campaign represents what the Alba Botanica brand stands for, female empowerment, environmental sustainability, animal rights and rescue as well as empowering fearless females who take the reins, create legacies, and are unafraid to start a revolution.

Celebrating Pride Weekend with Kiehl’s Since 1851 and Mya

Once again we were lucky enough to score an invitation to celebrate Pride Weekend with Kiehl’s Since 1851. If there is one company you want to celebrate with, it is this American skincare brand that specializes premium skin, hair, and body care products. Every year Kiehl’s hosts the official kick-off party with NYC Pride to the great joy of all in attendance, including us. As with all their past pride events, Kiehl’s president, Chris Salgardo co-hosted the event with a noted celebrity, made another wonderful donation to a non-profit organization, and had guests enjoying themselves with a hot DJ on deck. This year’s celebrity co-host was recording artist, songwriter, and actress, Mya, with DJ Gustavo on the 1-and-2s.


As always, the party, which was held at Third Avenue and East 13th Street, the first and flagship Kiehl’s location, was completely packed with party goers, activists, Kiehl’s employees, members of the LGBTQ community, celebrities, etc. It was a wonderful mix of people enjoying delicious cocktails and refreshments at a fun and philanthropic event.


We say philanthropic because once again Kiehl’s president, Chris Salgardo (pictured directly below), made a donation to the Hetrick-Martin Institute, as he does every year during the Pride Weekend with Kiehl’s parties. For those not aware, the Hetrick-Martin Institute is a non-profit that believes all young people, regardless of sexual orientation or identity, deserve a safe and supportive environment in which to achieve their full potential. Hetrick-Martin creates this environment for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) youth between the ages of 13 and 24 and their families.


To keep the party going, Mya, who graciously signed autographs of her 2016 album, Smoove Jones, for fans, also took a turn as guest DJ for the anxious crowd, treating us to one or two of her songs.

KFC Recommits to its Colonel Quality Taste Guaranteed Chicken

As the old saying goes, “sometimes you have to take a step back to move forward”, and that’s exactly what KFC is doing with their chicken. The fast food giant announced it’s going to show things down in an effort to bring us the Kentucky Fried Chicken we originally fell in love with, using Colonel Sanders’s original method of preparing and cooking chicken, known as The Hard Way. This recommitment to the standards set forth by founder Colonel Harland Sanders, promises a taste guarantee in all of KFC’s U.S. restaurants called the “Colonel Quality Taste Guarantee.” On hand to celebrate KFC’s Re-Colonelization, and show us the old method of preparing the Colonel’s chicken, was KFC U.S. President Jason Marker, Actress and Comedian Rachel Dratch, and KFC Head Chef Bob Daas.

To help ensure consistent training across the country, managers and cooks underwent re-certification in KFC’s “Chicken Mastery” program, retraining them in the 25-minute process for prepping and cooking Original Recipe chicken. The process, as we learned, includes mixing all the following ingredients, including breading flour, the Colonel’s Secret Recipe of 11 herbs and spices, breading salt, and milk & egg powder, which makes the chicken GBD (golden brown delicious).

 Following this is checking for and removing imperfect pieces of chicken, then comes a series of steps, the Colonel’s once patented process, that take seven seconds each before they are pressure fried. Actress and Comedian Rachel Dratch performs the seven-second steps in the video below with Chef Bob Haas.

All of the 4,200+ U.S. KFC locations underwent this re-certification in KFC’s “Chicken Mastery” program and they stand behind these changes with their Colonel Quality Taste Guarantee which promises customers will be satisfied or the restaurant will remake the portion of your the meal you didn’t love.

This is not the first step in KFC’s turnaround, not only have they launched a new advertising campaign featuring a reintroduction of the Colonel, they’ve also updated their kitchens with state-of-the-art equipment in 98% of its restaurants, with a goal of remodeling 3,000 restaurants over the next three years in hopes of once again becoming no. 1 on taste by the end of 2017.
