Paris Fashion Week: Adeline Ziliox Spring Summer 2019 Collection

Bienvenue à Paris! Our journey through Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week continues with the edgy and striking Adeline Ziliox Spring Summer 2019 Collection. This is the second couture collection for the French fashion designer, which celebrates a woman’s form and strength. The clothing itself is showcased as armor with peeks of skin showing her vulnerable side. Even warrior women have a soft side underneath their armor. Hence why the collection is titled “Under the Shell”.

The Adeline Ziliox Spring Summer 2019 Collection has the body on display showcasing women’s feelings, emotions, and souls. Clothing on the body can tell so many stories. They tell of a person’s life, hopes, and dreams. These clothes, like a carapace or an armor, hide the real ego but reveals the deepness of this warrior woman. With this collection, Adeline Ziliox celebrates the women who fight daily for their freedom, their rights, and their lives. The collection commemorates powerful women of the past and present who dazzle with grace, femininity, and fragility. This recurrent theme is an everlasting inspiration for Adeline Ziliox.

Featuring a mostly black color palette, the collection boasts structured shapes, volume, and oversize shoulders. You can say it’s perfect for the women who shoulder the pain and struggles of the world. The graphic design details accentuate the femininity of the female form. We love the sheer paneling, cutouts and nude illusions seen throughout the collection. The bold mixing of neoprene, chiffon, and satin captures various sides of a woman – tough, elegant and fluid.

As you can clearly tell from the collection, Adeline Ziliox is passionate about motifs. She has always added this printed form into her work. With this collection, she had the opportunity to create stunning motifs with embroidery. Self-taught, she practices her motif creation in an intuitive, spontaneous and instinctive way.

Maria Aristidou SS2019 at Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week

Paris Fashion Week: Maria Aristidou Spring Summer 2019 Collection

We are back to sing the praises of haute couture designer, Maria Aristidou, during Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week. You may remember she captivated us with her Spring/Summer 2018 collection. Well, she has done it again with the Maria Aristidou Spring Summer 2019 Collection. For this season, Maria Aristidou presented a knit couture collection during Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week. Upon first glance, you will notice a recurring pattern throughout the collection.

The inspiration for the Maria Aristidou Spring Summer 2019 collection is a pattern that came from a single vintage arched door. She found this during a walk inside the old city walls of Nicosia. The inspiration for the simplicity of the door’s facade, together with the complexity of the engineering behind it, gave rise to a series of design trials that lead to this fine timeless pattern for the fabrics of the spring/summer 2019 collection.

You don’t always know what ‘s hidden behind a closed door, yet even when you think you do, you always wonder if you are right. A closed door is, more often than not, a mystery to all of us. We are humans and curiosity is, whether we like it or not, a human imperfection. And when that door has an arch and a keystone, intertwining to form a coherent symplexis, it becomes a mystical and wondrous gate, behind which imagination can run wild! So, open it. If you dare.

Titled “Symplexis”, the couture knit collection featured hand embroidered embellishments on a colorful palette of luxurious knit fabrics made by the designer. It captured the beauty and the essence of a woman. Unexpected cuts on timeless, classic designs with modern details are the signature of the designer’s Spring/Summer 2019 “Symplexis” collection. But knitwear is not Maria Aristidou’s first foray into knitwear. In 2015 she introduced her first A/W 2015 Knit Scarf Collection, a beginning of a new concept in her designs. The foray inspired her to first explore and then create, using luxurious threads and elaborate techniques, various knit patterns.

The craftsmanship of detailed hand embroideries adds to the uniqueness of Maria Aristidou’s fabric collections for the couture evening and accessories. Yarns such as wool, viscose, lurex, cotton, silk, and velvet are ordered from Paris and Italy. Then, a series of patterns, first designed on paper, then on to a computer knit programmer. The only fabric that is actually bought, and not produced by the designer, is the lining needed for each garment.

What are your thoughts on the Maria Aristidou Spring Summer 2019 Collection? Which looks are your favorites?

La Métamorphose at Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week

Paris Fashion Week: La Métamorphose Spring Summer 2019 Collection

The La Métamorphose Spring Summer 2019 is literally ripe for the picking. Created by sisters, Ewa Gawkowską and Margaret Szczęsną Marek, the collection was presented during Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week. Inspired by the French poem, La cueillette (it translates to Picking) by Guillaume Apollinaire, the “Eden Gardens” collection likens women to flowers. As you can probably gather, the poem is about flowers in a garden. Check out the first two paragraphs below.

An excerpt from La cueillette by Guillaume Apollinaire

We came to the flower garden for picking.
Beautiful, do you know how many flowers, tea-roses,
pale roses of love that crown your head,
fade each summer?

Their stems will bend to the rising wind.
Rose petals have fallen in the path.
O Beautiful, pick them since our dream flowers will
fade tomorrow!

La Métamorphose at Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week

Like the flowers in the poem, the women who inspired this stunning collection celebrates the many sides of a woman – her beauty, strength, and delicate nature. Like a flower, she blooms and blossoms into a thing of beauty that grows stronger with time.

The Eden Gardens collection is associated with the spirituality of a woman. It is a story about her emotions, sensitivity, subtlety, how she perceives the world around her and the people around her. About the harmony between the material and the spiritual, about the appreciation of the good that it receives from others and the desire to share what is in the heart of the most beautiful. It is a story about the gardens of the female soul..

The color palette is soft and elegant, with many looks presented in silk taffeta, wool, and French lace. Crisp white and soft grey gives way to champagne, pale peach, lilac, light violet, sunshine yellow and ends in white. Embellishments seen throughout the haute couture collection include flower petals, Swarovski crystals, hand-sewn beading, butterfly appliques, and feathers. Pastels emphasize the rosebuds who open, the whites for the purity and the light. The sharp shapes symbolize the determination.

We are loving La Métamorphose’s wonderful collection for this season’s haute couture shows. We look forward to seeing more from sisters, Ewa Gawkowską and Margaret Szczęsną Marek. What are your thoughts on the La Métamorphose Spring Summer 2019 Collection? Are you keeping up with the Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week shows?

Ana Luisa Everyday Luxury Jewelry

Ana Luisa Jewelry: Everyday Luxury Without the High-End Markup

Is there anything better than getting the best for less? We love saving money but we know it’s only really worth it when what you’re saving on are exceptional pieces. This is the idea behind the Ana Luisa jewelry brand, who offers everyday luxury jewelry for women. Unlike most luxury jewelry brands, whose prices reflect costs to the wholesale distributor, sales agent, marketing and retail markup, Ana Luisa offers a direct-to-consumer approach. Their approach of in-house designers, responsible production practices, and an online selling method allows the luxury-loving woman to afford gorgeous, high-end jewelry without the high-end markup.

Ana Luisa Everyday Luxury Jewelry

We couldn’t resist getting to know the Ana Luisa Jewelry and its beautiful jewelry options. Whether you’re looking for everyday essentials or statement pieces, this affordable luxury brand is what you’re looking for. Our introduction to Ana Luisa Jewelry began with three pieces: the Flower Stud Earrings in Iris Pink, the Tessa Friendship Bracelet in Pink, and the Mona Hoop Earrings.

Ana Luisa Everyday Luxury Jewelry

We were incredibly excited to receive our pieces and although we expected each item to be individually wrapped and placed in separate bags, we realize that it’s not a necessary need. The important thing is “how is the jewelry?” We will say Ana Luisa did not disappoint; let us tell you a bit about each piece first:

Flower Stud Earrings, $75.00 – a 14K Gold plated, delicate flower stud earrings with a natural pearl and an artistic enamel layer that is individually hand painted.

Tessa Friendship Bracelet, $59.00 – a 14k gold dipped friendship bracelet with a soft cotton ribbon braided with a delicate gold plated chain.

Mona Hoop Earrings, $69.00 – elegant, 14K gold-dipped studded hoop earrings with a textured ripple design.

Ana Luisa Everyday Luxury Jewelry

Out of the three pieces, the Flower Stud Earrings were our favorite (it was love at first sight). We generally go for more statement earrings but there’s something about these graceful beauties that just stands out to us. They have a nice weight to them, they don’t pinch or weigh your lobs down, and they’re wonderfully chic. The first item we actually wore was the Mona Hoop Earrings; we love the idea of studded hoop earrings, it’s a great fusion of the two design details and we think a stylish addition to the earring category. Lastly, the Tessa Friendship Bracelet is a lovely and sophisticated version of the iconic childhood bracelet. Unfortunately, we need to get an extender because chubby wrists are a thing but once we get it, we’ll be gleefully wearing the Tessa.

This was our intro to Ana Luisa Jewelry and we can’t wait to share other favorite pieces with you. Learn more about Ana Luisa on their blog.

sts blue Fall 2018 Collection: Cure Your Closet Woes w/ Jean Therapy

One of our favorite things about the cooler seasons is it’s the perfect time to wear denim jackets. And what’s better than a great denim jacket paired with some must-have jeans. For the fall season, it’s all about adding great denim pieces to your wardrobe and this fall’s denim trends are easy to pull off with the pieces from the sts blue Fall 2018 Collection. This season, it pays to be a little denim obsessed.

From straight ankle-length jeans to high-rise jeans, a return of button fly jeans, and frayed hem skinny jeans are just a few of the hot denim styles seen in the sts blue Fall 2018 Collection. sts blue offers a variety of jeans and jean jackets in several washes. From the lightest Jenson (blue) and Lamont (black) washes to the darkest Ranlett (blue) and Black washes, and so much in between.

New standouts from the sts blue Fall 2018 collection we’re obsessed with include the Cara Vintage-inspired Slim Straight Ankle Jeans; the Emma Ankle Skinny with Cut Off Stepped Hem and a “give me what I want” side stripe (or go bright with a neon stripe); and the Ashley High Rise Slim Fit Skinny with Exposed Button fly.

When it comes to their denim jackets, we’re very much obsessed with the Oversize Denim Boyfriend Jackets. With very cool details such as color blocking, ruffles, and fraying, this iconic item is instantly modernized. Our favorite thing about sts blue’s denim jackets is the option for free custom embroidery to make it your own. We tried sts blue’s free custom embroidery on our Oversize Boyfriend Denim Jacket, which we got in Mandarin Wash. We are so in love with the result of our customization (we even decorated it with some pins we got at the Denim Days festival). Yes, you read that correctly, sts blue offers free custom embroidery on their denim jackets. That is an amazing gift idea, because who wouldn’t want something special and customized to their style! Check out our custom jacket below:

INIFD and London School of Trend's Vibrant India NYFW Show

INIFD and London School of Trend’s Vibrant India NYFW Show

Every fashion week, we find ourselves gravitating more and more to fashion shows that feature up-and-coming fashion designer shows. To see the creativity, inspired aesthetics, and boldness we sometimes feel are lacking in big name shows. One of our favorites this season was the eclectic INIFD and London School of Trend’s Vibrant India NYFW Show. Based in India, the Inter-National Institute of Fashion Design (INIFD) in association with the London School of Trends, returned for another successful season at New York Fashion Week with vibrant and stunning Spring/Summer 19 collections.

INIFD and London School of Trend's Vibrant India NYFW Show

The Vibrant India NYFW Show featured a curated collection from 54 specially selected designs from across the 120 INIFD institutes in India. The collection boasted innovative silhouettes and pioneering style illuminating the runway in a colorful kaleidoscope of customary textiles and embellishments. The result is an eclectic array of trans-seasonal pieces showcasing the organization’s creative departments across the country. We wish we had the opportunity to meet some of the designers but unfortunately, that would not be the case during this very busy NYFW.

INIFD and London School of Trend's Vibrant India NYFW Show INIFD and London School of Trend's Vibrant India NYFW Show

The show allowed designers to present the perfect opportunity to marry the great traditional craftsmanship of specialist Indian crafts from around the nation. It featured modern graphic printing which echoes the traditional tie-dye technique, to the imagery of the beguiling Indian landscape. Experts of traditional Kutch embroidery, Phulkari, Kasuti and Chikankari play a part in marrying tradition to modern designed silhouettes.

INIFD and London School of Trend's Vibrant India NYFW Show

INIFD has created a stamp on London Fashion Week. With this showing, they are quickly establishing their presence at NYFW. INIFD’s aim is to create a platform for emerging Indian designers and the Indian fashion industry. By promoting the innovative design aesthetic and craftsmanship amongst the bustling fast fashion landscape, they are doing just that.

We really enjoyed the vibrancy of the Vibrant India NYFW Show. It’s only further set aflame our desire to attend India’s Fashion Week. We’d love to know your thoughts. What do you think of the INIFD and London School of Trend’s Vibrant India NYFW Show?

McDonald’s and Gert-Johan Coetzee Big Mac Collection

I’m lovin’ it: The McDonald’s and Gert-Johan Coetzee Big Mac Collection

It seems McDonald’s is making moves, not just in the retail beverage aisle, but in fashion as well. In celebration of the Big Mac’s 50th birthday, the fast food giant teamed up with a remarkable South African Fashion Designer. Teaming up with Gert-Johan Coetzee, the fast food brand and designer launched a playful streetwear collection which debuted at South African Fashion Week. Of course, the McDonald’s and Gert-Johan Coetzee Big Mac Collection isn’t the first time the Golden Arches has appeared in fashion. Back in 2014, Jeremy Scott incorporated a number of McDonald’s inspired garments in his first collection for Moschino.

However, the Big Mac Collection marks the first time McDonald’s has officially authorized the use of its iconography in fashion. The streetwear collection includes sequinned T-shirts with the signature golden arches, sweatpants and cropped sweat tops, cute slogan T-shirts, and a spectacular gold Tinsel jacket we’d kill for. It’s no surprise that this collection has received rave reviews for Coetzee…..just look at the stunning pieces!

McDonald’s and Gert-Johan Coetzee Big Mac Collection

The acclaimed designer is already known for his stunning red carpet couture. His gowns have already been worn by celebrities such as Kelly Rowland and many others. Coetzee is the mentor on South Africa’s version of Project Runway and has always been active in doing good. He also has his own scholarship program for aspiring fashion designers, consequently and wonderfully impacting the future of fashion.

“Having the opportunity to play with the iconography of such a huge global brand with the end goal of doing good, is such an honour, and it is a bonus that it is helping put South African fashion on the map globally,” says Coetzee.

The Big Mac Collection collection also includes a kid’s version, aptly named the Big Mac Kids Collection. This mini-me collection allows parents and their kids to enjoy the twinning fashion trend. All the proceeds of the sale of the streetwear collection go to the Ronald McDonald House Charity. The McDonald’s Gert-Johan Coetzee Big Mac Collection is only available in limited quantities on www.shopgert.com.
