Grand Opening: Dr. Smood Opens Location in NY’s NoMad Neighborhood

Just like we do to our homes every spring season, we believe in doing the same for our bodies. A seasonal cleansing can do wonders for you internally. Getting rid of what may be causing you harm, aging you faster, etc. Of course, when we say cleansing, we’re not talking about the unhealthy cleansing trends and fads. You can cleanse your system while nourishing it thanks to the great range of organic smart foods from Dr. Smood, all of which are developed by scientists, nutritionists, doctors and raw vegan chefs. We had the pleasure of getting to know Dr. Smood, at the grand opening of their second New York location in NoMad (North of Madison Square Park).

Dr. Smood is the first smart food boutique café specializing in health beneficial organic food and beverages. The cafes (more locations will be opening soon) offer certified organic juices, coffees, teas, sandwiches, salads, soups and nutrient-rich grab-and-go snacks that not only boast real nutrition, minerals, and basic vitamins but are also very delicious. They also offer signature organic coffee, sandwiches made with their proprietary Performance Bread and pastries created from the pulp of their cold-pressed juices. Not only are Dr. Smood’s products tasty, they are life-prolonging, curative and energizing. Their slogan of “Smart food for a good mood” really is true, with choices that benefit your body, mind and your general well being. Each Dr. Smood cafe is designed for maximum comfort and wellbeing. Like all their other locations nationwide, the NoMad location offers comfortable seating, free WiFi, charging stations for your mobile devices, even specially devised music playlists for different times of the day.

We had the opportunity to try one of their detox programs, the Dr. Smood Intermediate Detox Program, for a week, and the results were amazing. The program offers a product selection system that allows you to choose your mood: yellow for immunity, blue for energy, purple for health, pink for beauty, green for detox and orange for power. Our program included drinking five juices, one mylk, and one booster every day.

The first thing we noted was of course how delicious the juices and smoothies were. The second thing we noticed, and this was very important to us, was the lack of headaches and migraines. In the past when we’ve tried juice cleansing, we’ve always experienced migraines because although we were cleansing our bodies, we were not being properly nourished. With Dr. Smood, we never had that issue, and we never felt hungry at any point during our week-long cleansing. The third wonderful thing about our Dr. Smood experience, which of course truly excited us was our clothes fitting a bit looser, as well as being able to get into clothes that we couldn’t previously get into. The compliments about our glowing skin and happier disposition didn’t hurt either.

If you’re ready to try a cleansing program that has no negative side effects, we urge you to stop by Dr. Smood’s new NoMad location at 1151 Broadway, or any of their other cafe locations nationwide.

Healthy Drinks & Smoothies w/ Nutri Ninja Blender System with Auto-iQ

We’ve been on a juicing and smoothie rampage ever since the Nutri Ninja Blender System With Auto-iQ came into our lives. we’ve treated ourselves and our family to an absurd about of fruit and non-fruit smoothies. Our freezer and refrigerator is now stocked with lots of fresh fruits, taking the place of sodas, juices, and ice cream. We’ve blended both all-fruit, and fruit and vegetable smoothies to appease the different tastes, diets, and various allergy issues of our family, thanks to the individual Nutri Ninja® single-serve cups with Sip & Seal Lids. We’ve done so much with this wonder machine already, but we actually haven’t even scratched the surface of its amazing uses (we are ecstatically stuck in the smoothie-making phase).

The Nutri Ninja Auto-iQ Blender boasts 1000 watts of power, which pulverizes ice in seconds (we’re looking forward to ices this summer), is optimized for maximum nutrient and vitamin extraction and crushes fibrous vegetables, fruits, seeds, and nuts to an ultra-smooth consistency, and features one-touch Intelligent Controls that delivers smooth results. This life changer kitchen appliance comes jammed packed with essentials: a 64 oz. Processor Bowl, three sizes of Nutri Ninja® Cups (18-ounce, 24-ounce, and 32-ounce) with lids, an XL 72oz. Pitcher, Nutri Ninja® Pro Extractor Blades, and Dough Making plastic blades. Everything you need to achieve a healthier lifestyle and healthier eating habits is available to you from Ninja. We were so excited about using the Nutri Ninja Auto-iQ Blender, we took several videos of our smoothie making. This video is from our first time using it

The below is a photo from our first fruit and vegetable smoothie-making experience. We jammed packed quite a few ingredients in there. The photo and video featured below is of our Apple, Blueberry, Banana, Blackberry, Carrot, Broccoli, Spinach, and Tangerine smoothie:

We also love that Ninja provides tons of smoothie recipe ideas for you to try. The best part is you can experiment with those recipes, making them thicker, sweeter, or thinner, as well as adding or removing whatever ingredients you want. one of our favorite Ninja recipes is:

Antioxidant Refresher

1/2 cup frozen strawberries
1/2 banana, peeled
1 cup fresh blueberries
1/2 cup low-fat plain greek yogurt
1 tablespoon whole flax seeds
Container: Small 18-ounce Nutri Ninja Cup
Place all ingredients into the Small 18-ounce Nutri Ninja Cup in the order listed
Select Auto-iQ ULTRA BLEND

Of course it wasn’t all fruit and vegetable smoothies, at the request of our dear mother, we mixed up a few Seattle’s Best Coffee Frozen Coffee Drinks to satisfy her caffeine cravings. As someone who owns her Ninja Blender herself, my mother immediately wanted to relinquish one of our single serve cups while she was visiting for the holidays.

As we’ve stated, we’ve been on a smoothie making rampage but we can’t wait to really spread our culinary skills and start making soups, stews, etc. We suggest you add this amazing kitchen appliance to your life.

Is Your New Year Resolution to Eat Healthier? Try the Ninja Ultima Blender w/ Dual Stage Blades

As with every year, New Year resolutions to lose weight and eat healthier are uttered across the globe every January but thanks to the amazing Ninja Ultima Blender, we can be truly on our way to creating healthier drinks and meals. There are five models in the Ninja Ultima range, most of which includes 16 oz. Single Serve Cups and lids for personal drinks on the go. The Ninja Ultima BL820 Kitchen System includes a food processing bowl and blade accessories. In this post, we’re concentrating on the Ninja Ultima BL810.

THE NINJA Ultima

The expansive speed range of the Ninja Ultima Blender offers everything from gentle blending to total crushing to Nutrient Complete Juicing™. This means you can do anything from juicing to making soup, grinding meat, crushing ice, grating cheese, etc. Thanks to Ninja Ultima’s Total Crushing™ Blades that rotate at 5,000 RPM (crushing whole fruits, vegetables, seeds and ice) and its bottom High Speed Cyclonic Blades that rotate independently at 24,000 RPM (liquefying ingredients into a silky smooth consistency in a matter of seconds), you can prepare healthy meals any time of the day, for any occasion.

That’s right, the Ninja Ultima lets you go beyond just juicing. Want to lose weight in a delicious way? Try some metabolism boosting recipes like Apple Almond Power Smoothie, Kale and Cabbage Slaw, or Blackberry Mint Italian Ice (recipe below).

Planning a get-together? Try a delicious Sweet Red Pepper SpreadButternut Squash Mac & Cheese, or Blender Salsa. Throw out those thoughts that you’d have to buy the $600 Vitamix Blender to create those awesome, chef-inspired recipes. For half the cost of the Vitamix, you get a blender that is more powerful. So far I have tried these two recipes featured below (once with a substitute of pineapple and ginger instead of the blackberry+mint) and I plan on whipping up some homemade guacamole and trying the Chillout Chai Smoothie recipe.
