True Religion Releases Two Fall’17 Collections: WHOA & The Great Revolt

For the cooler seasons, fashion denim power brand, True Religion, known for their quality and innovative fits, washes, unique design details and distinctive stitch, released not one, but two Fall/Winter 2017 collections. Well, one is a full collection, and the other, a very large capsule collection; but at 30-pieces, it seems full to us. We had a the opportunity to preview the True Religion WHOA Fall 2017 earlier this year, while The Great Revolt Fall/Winter 2017 capsule collection was recently announced. Check them both out below:

True Religion WHOA

To emphasize on-trend and cool, the stylish collection, which was on display by seated and standing models, the looks fit seamlessly into the eclectic and fashionable style of the attendees. The collection featured a variety of denim fits, silhouettes, washes, and embellishments, including patches, distressed and ripped details. Bomber jackets are seen through the collection for both men and women ranging from classic colors and details, lightweight fabrications, to some a bit more ostentatious. One of our favorites was a bomber jacket with a padded quilt exterior, decorated with gunmetal stud detailing. The fall/winter seasons wouldn’t be fun with out a few leather options. Stylish fall-worthy leather pieces from True Religion also included bomber jackets, as well as hoodies, and joggers.

To call The Great Revolt a capsule collection is a bit misleading, the 30-piece unisex collection balances a refined street aesthetic with militaristic uniformity. Armed with a lineup of limited edition looks, including an over-sized parka, reversible Sherpa jacket, and a wide leg cargo pant, the collection uses tactical design elements, such as muted color palettes, exaggerated pocket details, and raw edge hems to deliver a modern spin on conventional utilitarian style.  Unlike the regular collections, there will be no replenishment. Once the pieces sell out from the True Religion website, they are gone for good. Prices for the Great revolt collection range from $89.00 – $499.00 and is available now on

Academy of Art Fall/Winter 2015 Collections

This season, the Academy of Art University Fall/Winter 2015 runway show featured 15 student designers debuting their thesis collections at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. This year the theme was all about “transformation,” said Simon Ungless, the Executive Director of the School of Fashion. “They used fabric manipulation and printing techniques to change the inherent qualities of textiles and surface qualities.” He described the student designers to have a deep focus on the body and wearability for one’s silhouette using advanced tailoring techniques. The basis of ‘transformation’ was clearly portrayed throughout all collections. The Fall/Winter 2015 season designs were presented in 10 collections, which included 8 womenswear, one mixed menswear and womenswear, and one menswear collection.

While all collections were extremely brilliant, I will discuss two collections below:

Paulina Susana Romero Valdez

Paulina received her M.F.A. in Fashion Design. Being born in Guadalajara, she drew inspiration from her roots incorporating baroque art and culture. Her collection included wool, tweed, silk, cotton, hand-dyed leather, and is heightened with vivacious, traditional Mexican embroidery across each piece of her exquisite collection.

Kevin C. Smith and Andrea Nyberg

I absolutely fell in love with their collaborative menswear collection. “Non-material substances” of nature inspired this luxury menswear line. As each model strutted down the elongated runway, you could view the various shades of blues, stripped patterns, and organic prints highlighting each formed silhouette. The assortment included bold raincoats, windbreakers, shirts, and pants perfectly layered incorporating a wearable and chic, but edgy look.

Get Dad Back In The Game!: Top Father’s Day Picks From The Accessories Council

Have you even started the mad dash yet?  The scramble?  The perpetual motion of second guessing, what ‘iffing’, noggin tapping and department store scurrying that always happens around Father’s Day? You haven’t?  Well you’re not alone!  Much like the men’s sections in department stores, pharmacies and boutiques, the male customer always gets the short end of the stick (or the back corner of the selling floor).

Well if you haven’t noticed by now, a Male Renaissance has been going full swing for the last few years now.  They’ve become demanding and not complacent to just accept what the women in their lives propose.  With a wider array of products & styles offered and more attention being paid to them in stores, men are gradually coming into their own in regards to voicing what they want.  Of course, that doesn’t make it any easier to decide what to snag for Dad this Father’s Day, or does it?  If there’s more to offer then there’s more to choose from.  This means that instead of the time-honored ‘dad’ tie or three pack of dress socks, the options for Father’s Day suddenly have more depth, range and the ‘oh-so-overlooked’ cool factor.
Who knows this all too well but the Accessories Council.  Their top Father’s Day picks are walks in updated classics, modern notions and those little accents that men have gravitated towards in order to  differentiate their collective roars from the rest of the pride.

Clockwise from top left:  J Fold full grain vegetable tanned Italian leather wallets are a classic need in an updated fashion, Dr. Scholl’s Jason oxford are a nice way to keep him fashion forward and comfy as these are equipped with a velour suede upper, Memory fit foam ® and cushy EVA midsole, Oliver Peoples Becket Sunglasses are a classic tortoise in the hands of a modern eyewear expert and Vasi Moda gives him just that little accent he needs to freshen up that somber sport coat with their colorful and exquisite silk pocket squares handcrafted in Como, Italy.

Clockwise from top left: Notes like citron, iced gin and lavender never smelled so fresh and clean with this new signature fragrance from Vince CamutoJack + Mulligan have very good-looking and simply cool dopp kits for the traveling man to fit all his grooming needs (I should know; I have one and love it) and the style impresarios at Esquire have shirts and ties on the pulse of style to suit the many kinds of men.

The modern man wear hats, but just make it cooler than his dad’s. David & Young offers up some pretty sweet fedoras that serve as the perfect topper for that charismatic outfit or that charismatic guy as well as many handsome hats and scarves.  Celebrities such as Kellan Lutz and Jay Alexander approve.

Clockwise from top left: Therapeutic can be stylish!  Such is the case of Compression Socks that you can find when looking at SockWell USA. You don’t need to buy boring black compression socks to help support your legs, there are colorful and playful options out there! These socks create circulation and reduces selling and muscle soreness all while looking pretty cool with nice colors and designs and it’s classic but make it his own with Auburn Jewelry customizable sterling silver cufflinks.  Each piece is handcrafted to order.  Be original for him or let him be the wild one with a gift certificate to customize his own pair.
No need to panic come June 15th.  Peruse these unique selections and others offered by these charismatic brands and make the dads in your life even cooler than he may already be.

Father’s Day is June 15, 2014!

Malan Breton Fall 2014 Collection Show

Oh drama! Malan Breton’s Fall 2014 show had plenty to go around.
Led by the vocals of a sultry singer, Breton’s theatrical
presentation featured fabrics
rich in color and texture.

The collection, inspired by the Bob Fosse Classic Cabaret, was presented so
that every look told its own story. Each piece
playing a unique role.
Glamour was the thread that tied together a symphony of fabrics such as silk,
cashmere, wool, fur, leather, and modern techno fabrics. The finishing touches
were supplied by intricate beading and fine embroidery.

While there were looks presented
for both men and women, there were also
a number of distinctly androgynous pieces worn. Adding to the collections dramatic nature.

Academy of Art Spring 2014 Collections

Once again, the Academy of Art Institute brings the talent of its student designers to the fashionable masses during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. For Spring 2014, the ninth season of the Academy of Art show, ten designers (four womenswear, four menswear with one womenswear collaboration and one menswear collaboration). One detail I kept noticing about the looks of these talented student designers was volume. Several of the designer collection featured voluminous looks for both men and women. Let’s get to the collections starting with my favorites first:

GWEN SHIHYAO LAI – Her stunning spring 2014 collection was inspired by the paintings of Filipino artist, Thaddeus Ochoa Pagaduan and featured cotton, silk, and ikat fabrics which featured pleating reminiscent of the artist’s use of tree bark and bleaching which represents the sunlight and fire from nature.

SHANSHAN BAI & WINBO SHIAU – A beautiful collaboration from these Fashion and Knitwear Designers. While Shanshan was inspired by the natural curling lines of floral panels, Winbo added a dynamic twist of street-chic style. The collection features a blend of silk gazar, wool and linen yarn.

NIKA TANG – showcasing a stunning collection that were inspired by the stone carvings of realism artist Kris Kuksi, architectural designs of Mario Botta and the sculptures of Korean artist Byoungho Kim, this collection focuses on volume, movement and texture. The garments take on a half dome and large ruffled silhouette of a sunfish with the macrame details reflecting the textures of caviar eggs.

VICKEN DERDERIAN – The first thing that caught my eye when Vicken’s first look hit the runway was fabrication – his voluminous and structured collection were featured in bold prints reminiscent of stunning jacquard and  upholstery. No surprise that he has a background in Furniture Fabrication Design, Architectural Design and Fine Artistry. His collection explores the connection between fashion and architecture.

DIDVIK KUANG – Imagine if Richard Gere’s American Gigolo character wore loungewear for the entire movie, Didvik Kuang’s collection is what his attire might look like. The collection’s fabrications include linen, blended wool, nylon and suede.

MARINE RONGRONG WEI – Inspired by the vintage clothing during the Great Depression, Marine combines different fabrics and textures to create her collection. Her collection also features varied fabrics weights and oversized silhouettes popular during that era.

LESLIE DILLOWAY – With inspiration coming from ethnic Turkish prints and textures infused with the 1990’s popular grunge fashion, Leslie Dilloway created a collection for a fictional Turkish cab driver in London in the late 80’s to early 90’s who she deemed mysterious and carefree. The collection features a casual, sporty theme thanks to the continuous use of drawstrings.

RYAN MORAR & MELISSA AVALOS – The second collaboration, Menswear Designer Ryan and Textile Designer Melissa create a standout casual collection. Ryan and Melissa’s collection is inspired by Robert Rauschenberg’s “Combines” mixed media artwork in both design element and textile. Ryan also counts the sounds of 1980’s Sonic Youth and Beat Happenings albums as inspiration. His garments feature deconstructed elements that create new shapes and raw, free form aesthetic.

Academy of Art continues to give us designers that offer a fresh and modern look at fashion. This season’s show has been one of my favorites from the school. Check out the looks in motion in the models finale walk below:
