Kiehl’s Celebrates 15 Years of New York City’s Pride Parade

To honor their 15 years of celebrating Pride, their 7th year as an official sponsor of the Pride parade, and supporting LGBTQ rights and equality in New York, Kiehl’s held their annual NYC Pride Kickoff Party at their historic flagship. The wonderful event was hosted, as always, by Kiehl’s President, Chris Salgardo, with a special performance by Canadian indie pop singing duo Tegan and Sara, and a music set by go-to party favorites, The Misshapes.

The Kiehl’s flagship location was packed corner to corner as guests enjoyed delicious cocktails, some great music, delicious eats from original Filipino Taqueria, 2ND City, who kept the crowd sated with their Bi-Curious Tacos (a choice of any two out of the available chicken, “fresh catch” fish, and short ribs), and Phin & Phebes Ice Cream kept the overheated crowd cool with their decadent flavors, like Pistachio Honeycomb, Peanut Butter Mallow, Vanilla Malt Cookie Dough, and Dark Chocolate Salty Caramel.

As they generously do every year,  Chris Salgardo and Kiehl’s made donations to some very wonderful charities. Actually, in honor of 15 years of Kiehl’s pride, he made several donations, four donations to be exact, each totaling $5,000.00.

The lucky donation recipients included the Ali Forney Center, the largest LGBT community center helping LGBT homeless youth in the US; The Hetrick-Martin Institute, the leading professional provider of social support and programming for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or questioning (LGBTQ) youth; NYC’s LGBT Community Center, a home and resource hub for the LGBT community, NYC residents and visitors where they can connect and engage, and find support; and The Tegan and Sara Foundation, a foundation that works for economic justice, health, and representation for LGBTQ girls and women. After the check presentations, we were treated to a wonderful performance by Tegan and Sara, who collaborated with Kiehl’s on a Limited Edition Ultra Facial Cream, and Limited Edition Ultra Facial Oil-Free Gel Cream, where 100% of Kiehl’s net profits from the sale of these products benefited the Tegan and Sara Foundation (see above check for $5,000).

The Ultra Facial Cream is Kiehl’s best-selling 24-hour daily face moisturizer. It helps reduce moisture loss while drawing and absorbing moisture from the air, to continuously replenish moisture throughout the day. The Ultra Facial Oil-Free Gel Cream provides 24-hour hydration for normal to oily skin types. This non-greasy hydrator moisturizes and conditions skin with a fresh texture.

Some of the Kiehl’s NYC Pride Kickoff Party attendees include Orange is the New Black’s Kelly Karbacz, Fashion Designer Timo Weiland, Miss Jay Alexander of ANTM fame, smoldering UK import Cameron Moir, Exquisite, Miss Queens Sateen, and famed transgender model, celebutante, singer, and performance artist, Amanda Lepore (pictured below in the middle).

We have a great time dancing the night away at this great charity event. How did you celebrate Pride?

Kiehl’s, Solange Knowles, & Mary Lambert Celebrates NYC Pride w/ Official Kick-Off Party

On the night before the Supreme Court ruled in favor of marriage equality for all 50 states, Kiehl’s Since 1851 held their annual Gay Pride Party to celebrate NYC Pride Week. The event was hosted by singer/songwriter, Mary Lambert, alongside Kiehl’s President, Chris Salgardo, who were on hand to honor the weekend of celebration.

Guests were treated to a night full of great music from DJs The Misshapes, and later in the evening, Solange Knowles, who rocked the house with a non-stop playlist of hot 90’s hits. Check out a video snippet of her set:

Guests were also treated to three delicious kinds of Mac and Cheese dishes – Mediterranean, Parisian and Buffalo Wing Style, and a wide assortment of cocktails that flowed freely all night.

Of course the event wasn’t just to party, Kiehl’s, who has been an avid supporter of great charities for years, made a donation of $5,000 to the Hetrick-Martin InstituteThomas Krever, Chief Executive Officer of the Institute who was on hand to receive the amazing donation. The Hetrick-Martin Institute is a non-profit that believes all young people, regardless of sexual orientation or identity, deserve a safe and supportive environment in which to achieve their full potential. Hetrick-Martin creates this environment for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) youth between the ages of 13 and 24 and their families.

YOU’RE INVITED: Kiehl’s LifeRide for amfAR’s Dedication of The AIDS Memorial Quilt

In 1987, Cleve Jones and friends came up with the idea for a memorial in memory of those who had died of AIDS so they will not be forgotten. This memorial is known as The AIDS Memorial Quilt. Twenty-seven years later and this extraordinary memorial, which includes more than 48,000 panels from every US State and over 28 countries, continues to be an uncommon and uplifting dedication to those who have lost their lives to AIDS. Now for the first time in nearly two decades, New York City will host The AIDS Memorial Quilt, with a display on Governor’s Island, thanks to Kiehl’s.

You are invited to join the riders of Kiehl’s LifeRide for amfAR at the open-to-the-public dedication of The AIDS Memorial Quilt on Monday, August 11th at 4:30 pm hosted by The NAMES Project Foundation CEO, Julie Rhoad. The event will feature a special Unfolding Ceremony and Reading of Names. The event also invites you to volunteer your time if you want to get involved at the dedication; please contact The NAMES Project Foundation at (404)688-5500 ext. 224 or volunteer@aidsquilt.org.

For those of who who can’t make it to this event on August 11th, The Quilt will still be on display on Tuesday, August 12th from 10am – 4pm.

Once, Twice…….. Three Times a Guest – Part 3

The third and final event of the night was a viewing party for the premier of the show Stylista. If you’re not already familiar, Stylista is the new reality show with Elle Magazine which airs on the CW Network where hopefuls claw (oh yeah, the claws are already showing) for the position of Assisant to Anne Slowey, the Fashion News Director of Elle magazine.

The event was being held at Kiehls and there were flat screen TVs in each room in to watch the commercial-free DVD.

As I stated in the last post, I was at the Wollman Rink event, Marisol and Kim went directly to the Stylista event from Jo Malone, so I met them there. When I arrived, it was packed to the gills

Thankfully, I didn’t miss the viewing. There were some seats available to watch (on a first come, first serve basis), but we missed out

As you can see everyone got settled in to watch the show but first had to get some snacks. Available to satisfy the pleasure of your junk food cravings was a popcorn machine and lots, lots of candy and chocolates.

There was just so much candy it was practically being shoved into your bags. Anyway, time to watch the show

During the show, Kim left because she was exhausted (we have been to an obscene number of events this week) but Marisol and I wanted to watch the entire show. During the event, two amazing things happened to me. First, while watching the show, a man came to stand right behind me, I turned around and guess who it was…………Joe Zee, Creative Director of Elle Magazine. I asked him for a photo and he said yes (he was very nice). The second photo is of him and one of the cast members, William (the Brit by way of Boston that wore the crazy socks)

The second amazing thing that happened was just as the show was ending, I decided that I needed a photo of Anna Slowey (since I had one of Joe Zee), so off I go to find her and I do. I find her in this group about to have her photo taken (she’s the blond).

As I wait, the woman she is taking the photo with turns around and it’s none other than Rapper, Eve (where has she been?)

I’m not sure what she has to do with the show, she wasn’t in the first episode so I assume she will be in a later one, maybe even the finale. Anyway, soon after the show was done, we left. The giftbag was prety good, you got three full size Kiehls products and a 20% off coupon for H&M.
