Wedding Stress

Wedding Stress: How to Say ‘I Don’t’ to Wedding Planning Stress

Despite the fact that many Americans are waiting longer to get married than they used to, weddings are still very much considered to be a rite of passage for countless couples. That said, this important and exciting life event is also one of the most stressful. In fact, a recent Zola study found that 96% of participants responded that planning a wedding is stressful, with 71% agreeing that planning a wedding is more stressful than other major life events, like buying a house or finding a job. In addition, 86% of respondents suffered from at least three wedding stress-related symptoms — including skin breakouts, headaches, insomnia, hair loss, and loss of sex drive — as a result of wedding planning.

Wedding Stress

Bride Wars: 20th Century Fox

It’s easy to see why. The wedding industry brought in a staggering $72 billion in revenue during 2016, but many young people can scarcely pay for the ceremony due to crippling student loan debts, high costs of living, and unaffordable housing. That, coupled with the pressure to make one’s wedding perfectly Instagrammable and wholly unique for guests, is enough to make planning this special day seem like an insurmountable task.

Fortunately, there are a few things you can do to relieve some stress throughout the process. While there’s no such thing as a completely stress-free wedding, you’ll reduce the likelihood of an emotional breakdown and may even be able to enjoy your engagement if you follow these tips.

Wedding Stress

Secure Some Planning Help

Even if you’re incredibly crafty or have a take-charge attitude, the reality is that no one should (or can) do it alone. Those who try may end up suffering the consequences, which can translate to mental or physical health issues, in some cases. For example, more than 37 million people suffer from migraines nationwide — and since migraines are often exacerbated by the stress (e.g., hormonal fluctuations), your wedding might end up being a huge (and literal) headache if you don’t have help. Although hiring a wedding planner may seem like an unnecessary expense, having someone to handle the inevitable hiccups and coordinate all the moving parts can be absolutely priceless for many couples. If it’s simply not realistic for your budgetary constraints, ask trustworthy friends and family to lend a hand when possible. Whatever you do, remember that the big day doesn’t have to rest solely on your shoulders.

Don’t Fall Into the Comparison Trap

It’s easy to work yourself up into a tizzy when you’re constantly feeling like your wedding won’t be good enough. And given our constant involvement on social media, it’s no wonder we’re comparing our lives to others. You may need to consciously remind yourself to stop scrolling on Instagram or browsing through Pinterest and instead focus on what’s really important: the celebration of you and your partner. If you’re worried about whether you’ll receive a lot of likes on a wedding-related post or that your friends will compare your nuptials to that of someone else in your circle, you’re not really thinking about what matters. Those who have trouble shaking themselves out of the comparison cycle should make an effort to unfollow wedding-related accounts, limit screen time, or discourage wedding talk outside of specific timeframes to keep their emotional well-being in check.

Prioritize Your Self-Care Routine

The term “self-care” is often thrown around so much that it’s lost all meaning, but it really is important for betrothed couples in the midst of planning their wedding. Ultimately, self-care can refer to anything that puts your own needs first and feels restorative. For some, that might mean getting regular spa treatments; not only do 92% of people surveyed feel that massage can be effective in reducing pain, but this practice can also have profound effects on one’s mental state. Self-care could also include getting enough sleep, following a nutritious diet, or working out regularly (as only one in three adults receives the recommended amount of physical activity each week). Alternatively, self-care might involve meditation, therapy appointments, house cleaning sessions, time spent outdoors, setting boundaries, abstaining from alcohol use, prioritizing social engagements, or spending quality time with your fiancee.

Only you can define what self-care really means, but whatever it is to you, it’s essential that you make time for it in your schedule. Remember that you’ll be better equipped to handle the challenges of planning a wedding if you tend to your needs consistently. Think of it as preventative maintenance, rather than emergency repair.

Try Out Some CBD Oil

CBD is being touted as a cure-all for virtually everything, from anxiety to chronic pain. For brides and grooms suffering from wedding planning stress, CBD oil might be a viable way to find some relief without engaging in potentially harmful habits. Because CBD doesn’t typically include THC (the part of cannabis known for having psychoactive properties), there’s no risk of dependence or of getting high at all. CBD oil, or even CBD gummies, can be used to reduce pain, ease stress, and restore balance to essential bodily functions such as appetite, sleep, digestion, and mood.

Although more research needs to be done on its benefits (and consumers need to do their homework to make sure they’re buying a high-quality product), there is a lot of anecdotal evidence to support these claims. A recent survey even found that 42% of CBD users said they stopped using traditional medications (including Tylenol or prescription drugs like Vicodin) in favor of CBD, with 80% of participants saying they’ve found CBD products to be “very” or “extremely” effective. If you’ve been curious about CBD and are seeking a more natural way to reduce your wedding planning stress, it’s possible that this could become a healthy part of your routine.

Consider Eloping Instead

Every weekend, an average of 44,230 weddings take place. But if the cost of a wedding or the anxiety associated with the guest list is proving to be too much for you and your beloved, there might be another option that will eliminate planning stress for good. Elopements are becoming more popular as couples try to keep expenses low and focus more on their own special and intimate celebrations. If you’d rather spend money on traveling than a big wedding, hate having all eyes on you, or are feeling pressured to make decisions that don’t align with your vision of your wedding day, you and your soon-to-be spouse may want to elope instead. That way, you can say your vows in relative solitude wherever you wish (whether it be the top of the mountain or city hall) and have total control over every element.

If your family and friends want to celebrate with a big party after the fact, that’s always a possibility (and won’t require you to rent out a big event venue or spend several thousand dollars). When money or family issues seem to be the source of your wedding stress, an elopement might be the right move.

Whatever your wedding style, budgetary constraints, or personal challenges, there are ways to reduce your stress throughout the planning process. By keeping these tips in mind, you may be able to look forward to your wedding and enjoy putting everything together, rather than experiencing an impending sense of doom every time you sit down to go over the guest list.

Admire These 13 Prestigious 2019 AGTA Spectrum Award Winners

When it comes to gauging the world’s finest gems and diamond jewelry, no group does it better than the American Gem Trade Association. And no awards celebrated this more than the 2019 AGTA Spectrum Awards. Since it began back in 1981, the association now consists of more than 1,200 members and it only continues to grow.

No event is so esteemed as the AGTA’s annual Spectrum Awards. Held on August 3 and 4 this year, the panel of judges contained some of the most-known names in the jewelry and gemstone business; John Carter, Paula Crevoshay, Myriam Galli, Brett Kosnar, and Naomi Sarna.

Best of all? This event contained one of the highest volumes of first-time winners in the award’s history.

When we see the entries coming into our office and those submitted during our New York City drop-off program, there’s always a lot of internal speculation about how the judges will respond to each piece,” notes AGTA’s chief executive officer Douglas K. Hucker. “After all of these years, one thing is certain, and that is that there is no way we can anticipate the dynamics that will develop within the panel, nor the pieces they will ultimately select after hours of contemplation and discourse.”

2019 AGTA Spectrum Awards

While looks such as the Solitaire style have presented the archetypal singular diamond set on an elegant band since 1886, the creative opulence of modern jewelry is as breathtaking as it is daring. The winners of the 2019 AGTA Spectrum Awards have certainly not failed to dazzle. Let’s take a gaze — albeit brief — at this year’s 13 victors:

Bridal Jewelry: Bella Campbell

2019 AGTA Spectrum Awards

From the Campbellian Collection, Campbell wowed the judges with an ornate, 18Kwhite gold bracelet. Adored with rainbow moonstones, blue sapphires, and diamonds, this show-stopping piece will make every bride feel elegant as they walk down the aisle.

Business/Day Wear: Ricardo Basta

2019 AGTA Spectrum Awards

Ricardo Basta’s “Karma Chameleon” ring was the perfect blend of style and practicality for the judges this year. The 18K yellow gold ring sports a barrel facet top Tourmaline you can’t help but notice. The ring also features sapphires, tsavorite and spessartite garnets, and rubies with a chameleon design on the side.

Classical: Jeffrey Bilgore

2019 AGTA Spectrum Awards

For timeless styles that appeal to just about everyone, no one did it better than Jeffrey Bilgore. He stunned the judges with a gorgeous platinum bracelet featuring Russian demantoid garnets. The piece was topped off with a dusting of diamonds and smaller Russian demantoid garnets for a traditional look.

Evening Wear: Tanja Schuetz

2019 AGTA Spectrum Awards

Tanja Schuetz’s peacock-inspired white gold necklace featured a stunning boulder opal in the center of feathers made from blue sapphires, diamonds, and tsavorite garnets. The striking use of color was enough to catch the eye of every judge in the room at the 2019 AGTA Spectrum Awards.

Men’s wear: David White

2019 AGTA Spectrum Awards

White’s 18K white gold butterfly-shaped cufflinks earned him the top spot in the menswear category. Featuring sapphires, diamonds, and tsavorite garnets, these colorful creations were the best way for men to show off their style. , whether you’re grabbing a bite at your favorite restaurant with a coworker or hitting a red carpet event, these cufflinks work for a number of events and occasions.

Best Use of Color: David White

David White’s gorgeous butterfly cufflinks were also the winner of this category.

Fashion Forward Winner: Adam Neeley

2019 AGTA Spectrum Awards

Neeley’s gorgeous 14K white gold earrings were the picture of elegance as they dangled before the judged. Consisting of a delicate balance of tourmaline and tsavorite garnets, the diamonds were the cherry on top of these ornate earrings.

Cutting Edge Award in Carving: Meg Berry

2019 AGTA Spectrum Awards

The carving category is open to any jewelry carver who transforms a natural gem into a piece of art. First place was granted to Meg Berry for her “Himalaya Rose.” Made from carved rubellite Tourmaline, the delicate pink gem looked picture-perfect.

Cutting Edge Award in Objects of Art: Logan Cutshall

2019 AGTA Spectrum Awards

Of course, jewelers are used to mixing materials. When it comes to Cutshall, his beautiful sea-inspired pendant featured rough aquamarine accented with opals, emeralds, heliodor, rubies, spinels, sapphires, andalusite, and, of course, more aquamarine. The pendant showcased an ornate golden ship and octopus on top, truly feeding into the piece’s name: “Treasure Hunt.”

Best Use of Platinum and Color: Roland Krainz

2019 AGTA Spectrum Awards

Krainz cuff bracelet was adorned with a gorgeous butterfly studded with sapphires, emeralds, rubies, and diamonds.

Best Use of Pearls: Chris Faber

2019 AGTA Spectrum Awards

Faber’s delicate white gold cufflinks were the perfect accent for his 12-15mm pearls from the South Sea. Circled in rubies and black diamonds, these cuff links were the ultimate balance of modern and traditional. These cufflinks also won 3rd place in the Men’s Wear category.

Innovating Faceting: Mark Gronlund

2019 AGTA Spectrum Awards

Gronlund’s specialty-cut aquamarine stole the show. With multiple faces jutting toward the inside of the gemstone, “Beyond” went beyond the judges’ expectations.

Best of Show: David Nassi

2019 AGTA Spectrum Awards

David Nassi achieved the Best of Show Award at the 2019 AGTA Spectrum Awards, thanks to his beautiful, 30.19 ct. 100% Tanzanian red spinel. The gem was a cushion-cut to show off the remarkable facets of the piece.

Just like 82% of women feel more confident from wearing makeup, the perfect jewelry can make or break an outfit. There’s no doubt that jewelry innovation will continue to evolve with each passing year. For now, we’ll just have to wait until next year’s Spectrum Awards to get the “cutting edge” jewelry so many of us crave.

Demarchelier Restaurant in New York

Restaurant Review: Demarchelier Summer 2019 Menu

Summer is sadly slowly coming to an end but there is still some time left to enjoy a few of what makes summertime a wonderful season. The fall season is still a month away, so there’s plenty of time left to partake in a fantastic summer menu. We had the pleasure of doing just that when we journeyed back to experience the Demarchelier Summer 2019 menu. We were once again welcomed by Emily Demarchelier, for an evening of gourmet dining that captured the essence of authentic French cuisine.

Demarchelier Restaurant in New York

For the summer season, Demarchelier features many signature dishes including Pate De Campagne, Filet of Herring with Potato Salad and Moules Mariniere (which we enjoyed on our last visit), for an appetizing start to a full course dinner. Delicious entrees transporting you to France include the succulent Duck Confit with white beans (another favorite from our last visit), Rainbow Trout Meuniere and Filet Mignon. The dessert menu boasts an assortment of sweet treats including the Crème Caramel (Flan), Profiteroles with chocolate sauce and Crepes Suzette with Grand Marnier. While there were dishes were already familiar to our palates, we opted for the Demarchelier summer 2019 menu items we hadn’t experienced before. Here is our summer menu journey.

Demarchelier Restaurant in New York

Surrounded by the paintings of Eric Demarchelier, we were ready to traverse the Demarchelier Summer 2019 menu and surrender ourselves to the wonderful French flavors.

COCKTAILS

Demarchelier Restaurant in New York

We started our review with a bang of a cocktail, a drink to remind us that the fall season is approaching. The second cocktail was more along the refreshing and sweet side, thanks to its unconventional flavor. Check them both out below:

Le Normandie – vodka and Père Jules Pommeau shaken with a dried apple garnish. Bold and potent, this cocktail is perfect for brandy lovers.

Kumquat Margarita – Casamigos Tequila Blanco, fresh lime juice, and Kumquat liqueur. If you’re a fan of Limoncello, you will love this cocktail; it’s refreshing, vibrant, and sweet.

STARTERS

QUICHE OF THE DAY – GOAT CHEESE & ARUGULA

Demarchelier Restaurant in New York

GLASGOW:  We love a good savory pastry and Dermarchelier’s the daily Quiche offering hits the spot every time. Tonight we dined on a Goat Cheese and Arugula Quiche sitting on a bed of fresh greens. It’s a meal in pie form but not too filing that it would prevent you from enjoying your full course.

PATE DE CAMPAGNE

Demarchelier Restaurant in New York

LUCIANA: Its combination of pork and beef, rustic texture and rich flavors were sublime. Every bite melts in your mouth. It forces you to pause a few times to appreciate the beautiful assault on your palette. Served with a fresh salad and creamy sauce, I found myself eating slowly hoping this culinary experience would last forever. This tender, French country style pate is a definite must to try.

MAIN COURSES

BISON BURGER ON A BAGUETTE

Demarchelier Restaurant in New York

LUCIANA: I’ve wanted to experience the bison burger, and this was my first time doing so; and what an introduction I received! I was not at all disappointed with this distinct cheeseburger. What I discovered was a delicious, succulent burger charred to perfection. Served on a crispy baguette (a lovely change from the traditional bun), and topped with fresh tomatoes, lettuce, onions and your choice of cheese. I especially love the fact that this meat is lower in fat than traditional beef but still tastes so incredibly good. I would recommend this dish over and over.

WHOLE BRANZINO WITH MEUNIERE SAUCE

Demarchelier Restaurant in New York

GLASGOW: Great food is my weakness and this superbly prepared whole Branzino with an amazing Meunière  (lemon butter) sauce hit every tastebud with strategic levels of mindblowing flavor. Whether you’re a seafood lover or not, this cooked-to-perfection mild-tasting and versatile fish is an absolute win.

SIDES

POMMES FRITES

Demarchelier Restaurant in New York

GLASGOW: I was in the mood for a bit of British influence, so naturally needed these Pomme Frites to go with my branzino. The fresh-cut Frites were wonderfully crisp and soft at the same time, and there was a very faint sweetness to the flavor. The result was an empty plate.

MIXED VEGETABLES – BEETS & GRILLED POLENTA

Demarchelier Restaurant in New York

GLASGOW: Since we paired a carb side with our Branzino, we opted for an equally rustic side of vegetables. In this case, beets and grilled Polenta. The beauty of polenta is its mild enough to mix beautifully with stronger-flavored foods; perfect for my branzino.

DESSERTS

PROFITEROLLES w/ Chocolate Sauce

Demarchelier Restaurant in New York

LUCIANA: I love chocolate but melted chocolate drizzled over ice cream sandwiched between French choux pastry balls are heavenly. The semi-sweet puffs, vanilla ice cream and warm chocolate sauce made for a decadent combination of texture and taste. Every bite to the last was exquisite.

TARTE TATIN w/ Vanilla Ice Cream

Demarchelier Restaurant in New York

GLASGOW: Some may say there’s nothing like a warm slice of apple pie but one bite of Demarchelier’s Tarte Tatin would change their minds. It may be a simple dessert but its flavors are anything but. This is definitely one of the most hedonistic a la mode desserts I’ve enjoyed.

Emily Demarchelier at Demarchelier Restaurant in New York

There’s also about Demarchelier to love besides the art and wonderful summer 2019 menu.  The wonderful hospitality from Emily Demarchelier is unsurpassed. You really feel the family warmth, tradition, and generational pride as soon as you step foot into its homey ambiance. Whether it’s your first, second, or fifty-first visit to the Demarchelier French Bistro, you’ll always want to come back.

Labotica True Nature Sheet Masks

Labotica True Nature Masks by Leaders Cosmetics

We recently read an article about a study from the World Health Organization that found microplastics in drinking water. Another article that found microplastics in the air and in raindrops. As you can imagine, a buildup of microplastics in our system can be detrimental to our bodies. So, of course, we must be a bit more discerning about what we put in and on our bodies. Since skincare products are absorbed into the skin, we started paying more attention to beauty products.
