Cannabidiol

Tapping Into The Surge In Popularity Of CBD Products

As the national push for decriminalization and legalization of marijuana continues, the industry is riddled with new products. Cannabidiol — commonly referred to as CBD — is making a huge surge in popularity.

Cannabidiol

CBD, THC, and Me

You’ve no doubt seen both of these cannabis-related acronyms. Both chemical compounds are present in cannabis plants, but they work differently. CBD is second to THC in cannabis, but it isn’t an intoxicant like it’s psychoactive sibling THC. Commonly in oils, but present in countless other products, CBD has been found to provide a more manageable, clear-headed feeling than THC’s high. Still, the two are often blended together in different levels of potency, each of which will affect everyone differently. With 1.5 billion people across the world suffering from chronic pain, one of the most common uses for CBD is treating it. By most accounts, it’s been pretty successful, too. Plus, there are a ton of choices.

From Personal Care To Pets

The storied uses for CBD products have expanded quickly. When 88% of women say their hair directly influences their confidence, you better believe there’s a smattering of CBD products touting their benefits. Does your dog have anxiety? People have been resorting to CBD treatments. CBD treatment famously helped a young girl named Charlotte with chronic seizures.

In fact, supermarket giant Kroger announced that they’d begin distributing CBD products in 945 stores across the United States. The online availability of CBD products is even more widespread, with retailers taking advantage of the fact that 90% of searchers haven’t even decided on a product yet. Why not give them innumerable options? Kroger is neither the first nor will they be the last to do so.

Do Your Homework

CBD might sound great, but bad products exist in every industry. When 33% of retailers have the ability to display their inventories on the web, online CBD markets are very extensive. With so many options, it’s essential to do the appropriate research for both health and legality.

“In humans, CBD exhibits no effects indicative of any abuse or dependence potential. To date, there is no evidence of public health-related problems associated with the use of pure CBD,” says a report from the World Health Organization.

This isn’t an excuse to be ill-informed about what CBD products you might consider buying. Everybody is different, and it’s important to know where your products are coming from, as well as the additional ingredients they may have.

Some believers tout CBD as a cure-all for every ailment. Others are skeptics. It remains true that not enough is yet known CBD to canonize it or demonize it. While the market swells with CBD products, it’s important to keep that in mind. It always pays to be a conscious consumer, whether it’s CBD or not.</p

We’re GLAAD That These Brands Exist: How 5 Companies Have Supported Pride Month

In an effort to create a more inclusive world, it’s thanks to big businesses that many consumers hear about LGBTQ+ issues for the first time. It’s because of their efforts through media, marketing, and special products that even the most isolated individuals are able to tune in to what’s happening throughout the world. Today we highlight a few brands that continue to support inclusion efforts. Check out what Absolut, Sally Hansen, Bud Light, ASOS, and Express has available for Pride Month.

Through partnerships with GLAAD, a non-governmental media organization promoting LGBTQ+ advocacy and equality, the following brands deserve special recognition for their nation-wide support during Pride Month. Check these five brands out when you want to show your support.

1. Express

Express Pride Month

When you want to look good poolside, Express has got you covered (literally). The clothing brand recently launched its Love Unites Campaign in partnership with GLAAD to show their support for the LGBTQ+ community.

The campaign unveiled a completely new collection of 25 pieces of gender-fluid clothing options. For every piece of clothing purchased from the collection through July 15, Express will also donate 25% of its net income to GLAAD up to $100,000.

2. Bud Light

Bud Light Pride Month

No celebration is complete without a great beer. When you want to celebrate Pride this month, why not choose Bud Light’s new rainbow-inspired bottles?

But the Beer company isn’t simply releasing a new print for its boxes; partnering with GLAAD, Bud Light has released its first-ever rainbow aluminum bottles. Studies have shown that adding or changing a sign can benefit a business’ sales by up to 7%. For every case sold between May 27 and June 30, Bud Light pledged to donate $1 to the advocacy group for up to $150,000 in total donations.

This is in honor of the company’s 20-year anniversary working with GLAAD. GLAAD Chief Programs Officer Zeke Stokes recognized the importance of their partnership following their debut.

“For twenty consecutive years, Bud Light has partnered with GLAAD in its mission to accelerate acceptance of LGBTQ people,” Stokes noted. “Bud Light stood with the community at a time when many brands did not, and their continued outspoken support sets the bar for other global brands.

3. Absolut

Absolut Pride Month

If beer isn’t your cup of, well, beer, you can always invest in Absolut instead. The vodka powerhouse was the first spirits brand to throw its public support behind LGBTQ+ rights more than 38 years ago. In honor of the 50th anniversary of Pride, Absolut has teamed up with a number of organizations, local festivals, and activists in the community to accelerate LGBTQ+ acceptance.

Along with their social appearances, the vodka brand has also showcased a new bottle featuring a hand-painted rainbow flag design. To prove that their devotion to LGBTQ+ issues will last long after Pride Month, Absolut will stock your favorite store’s shelves throughout the rest of the year.

Best of all? The brand is also working to raise awareness and start a conversation about LGBTQ+ issues through its digital hub. Not only will this promote understanding, but the company also hopes that this conversation will inspire future endeavors for Absolut. Though the company undoubtedly relies on the help of the world’s 700,000 consulting firms on projects and manufacturing locations, getting this user feedback is vital for the company’s future success in sociopolitical movements.

4. ASOS

ASOS Pride Month

Express might be leading the charge for the middle class, but ASOS is truly a fan favorite among frugal fashionistas. As an online retailer, its managed to tap the global market of consumer spending where more than $2.86 trillion is spent each year online alone. Partnering with GLAAD for the third time, the online retailer has unveiled a collection of 50 new pieces in honor of Pride Month, including ASOS Curve and ASOS Plus styles.

ASOS notes that their collaboration with GLAAD has raised more than £200,000 in their efforts to date (more than $252,600 U.S.). This year, 100% of their net profits garnered from the collections will be donated to help GLAAD and their efforts.

5. Sally Hansen

Sally Hansen Pride Month

Sally Hansen knows that good drinks and good outfits aren’t photo-ready without beautiful nails. In its newest collaboration with GLAAD, Sally Hansen has released its Pride Collection. The collection features six Xtreme Wear shades in strikingly bold colors that represent the colors of the rainbow.

Sally Hansen Pride Month

You can order the colors online or from your local Walgreens or Ulta locations. At the Ulta locations, you can also invest in the entire collection as a gift set for only $16.99.

Celebrating the organizations who do it right is essential during Pride Month. Since 50% of all customers enter a business because of its signage, it’s expected that similar numbers will buy a product because of its packaging. If we want to encourage corporations to continue making strides for LGBTQ+ rights and advocacy, recognizing organizations that are doing it well is just as important as calling out the corporations who are getting it wrong.

Free Dad Hugs

Man’s Free Dad Hugs Shirt At Pride Parade Sparks Viral Reaction

When we think of novelty t-shirts, a strong majority are pretty terrible. We make t-shirts for every other event out there and they’re cool for a day, then disappear. More than 14.3 million tons of American textiles help clothe people around the world, many of which are event apparel of some sort. Dads are especially renowned for making and wearing some of the best/worst shirts ever. We could list them, but the general concept is seeing your Dad wear some shirt he finds clever and you shake your head.

One Dad heard his friend was going to the Pride Parade in Pittsburgh wearing a shirt that said free Mom hugs and decided he wanted to join. Scott Dittman, inspired by his friend Deanna, didn’t know how much they were about to mean to the LGBTQ+ community. The organization Deanna was attending with is called Free Mom Hugs, an LGBTQ+ ally group that aims to help build a better tomorrow, literally one hug at a time.

“My first thought was, I’m thinking the rate of rejection from fathers is probably higher than mothers,” Dittman said. “I can give dad hugs.”

So he got his free Dad hugs shirt and joined the parade. There are technically three categories of high-visibility safety apparel out there, but the free Dad hugs shirt was about to become the fourth. He was about to learn too many people hadn’t felt safe in the arms of their own father’s in a long time. The first person he hugged was standing in front of him, with tears in her eyes. He said she just thanked him over and over again. The next hug was a gay man who had been abandoned by his parents at 19 years old because of his sexuality.

“He just sobbed and sobbed and thanked us,” said Dittman. “He just melted. It was an honor to be involved in that, but it was terrible at the same time.”

Lots of hugs were exchanged that day, with more emotions than Dittman admitted expecting. Never really thinking himself as an LGBTQ+ ally other than having a heart for human beings, he was distraught with how something as seemingly small as hugs impacted so many people.

“You could tell they hadn’t had something as simple as a hug from their dad in a long time. That broke my heart,” he said.

Afterward, he was righteously upset. So he let it fly, telling the story of the day briefly, complete with how it impacted him and admonishing parents who have all but disowned their kids because of who they are.

“Imagine that, parents. Imagine that your child feels SO LOST FROM YOU that they sink into the arms of a complete stranger and sob endlessly just because that stranger is wearing a shirt offering hugs from a dad. Think of the depths of their pain. Try to imagine how deep those cuts must be. Please don’t be the parent of a child that has to shoulder that burden. I met WAY too many of them, of all ages, today,” the post said.

Other than venting, he didn’t expect his post to make any waves. With his message and the number of mobile search users slated to hit 221 million by 2020, the post quickly went viral. Approximately 248,000 shares and 341,000 likes later, the post made big waves. He reported receiving over 1,500 responses from parents around the country who were broken by his words because he was speaking directly to them.

“I’ve had so many parents reach out to me saying they’ve been crying for days, saying they’ve been those parents, and they’ve reached out to their children they haven’t talked to in years,” said Dittman.

He reported that one young person reached out to him saying that he’d saved their life that day with his post. Stirred, he isn’t planning on ceasing with being an active ally and free Dad hugs. That day helped so many people and, before he went there, he’d merely assumed his shirt would get some smiles. That day changed him and his perspective.

“It’s humbling, but it’s sad,” he explains. “It’s sad that some guy in some small town western Pennsylvania is having that much of an impact when that impact should’ve been made and when they shouldn’t have even needed it because they weren’t abandoned in the first place.”

As we age, more than half of adults over 50 agree that our smiles remain our most attractive physical features. Dittman didn’t know he’d cause so many smiles that day. The point to which it humbled and angered him, marks the internal shift that more people need to feel. A little anger and a lot of love go a long way.

Glow Green: 5 Tips To Go Green With Your Beauty Routine

While you might not think about it all that often, your daily beauty routine can have a surprisingly large impact on the environment. Between plastic packaging, artificial ingredients, and wasteful practices, your normal beauty routine might be harming the environment more than you realize. Here are a few tips and tricks you can use to shrink your carbon footprint while still looking and feeling great. Ready to go green with your beauty routine?

Green Beauty Products

Be Mindful Of Packaging

Most commercially produced and sold beauty products come in plastic packaging since this allows companies to cut down on costs of production. However, all that plastic has to go somewhere, and while most of it can be recycled, less than 22% of household trash is recycled in the U.S. When shopping for your makeup, skin care products, and more, look for products with reusable packaging. With a bit of effort, it’s even possible to go zero-waste with your routine.

Look At Ingredients Lists

Do you actually know what’s in that moisturizer you’re using? Many beauty products will use artificial ingredients, and some products might contain components that can irritate sensitive skin. Whenever possible, look for organic beauty products to integrate into your routine. The USDA has established an organic certification program that requires all organic foods to meet strict government standards. These standards regulate how such foods are grown, handled, and processed.

Go Cruelty-Free

Almost all companies will test their beauty products before releasing them, however, some choose to test on animals rather than humans. Animal testing is often cruel and inhumane, despite being a common industry practice. To reduce your contributions to animal testing, look for products that are labeled as cruelty-free. This means they avoid animal testing so you can feel good about your purchases.

Pay Attention To Sources

Your products might have organic ingredients and not test on animals, but how far did it have to travel to get to you? Many ingredients are sourced from longer distances before being processed, and then your products need to be shipped to a store before you buy them. All that shipping can add up to a larger carbon footprint than you might expect for a single beauty product. When possible, shop local, and always pay attention to where your makeup’s ingredients are being sourced from.

Do It Yourself

Want to go green with your beauty routine, but worried about how much it might cost you? Try making your own products instead. It’s estimated that by 2024, the global skin care market will reach $180 billion. Instead of spending your hard-earned money on beauty products with harmful environmental consequences, try making your own at home. That way you’ll be able to control exactly what goes into the products you’re using and how much waste is produced in the process.

Most people don’t consider the environmental impact of their regular beauty routine, but your trusted products might have a larger carbon footprint than you expect. Use these tips to keep your routine eco-friendly so you can feel great about the steps you take to look great.

Today Glitter 100% plastic-free glitter

Biodegradable Glitter, the Newest Product to Save the Planet

Festival season is officially here and it’s time to start gearing up with the freshest looks for the affair. But these events aren’t well-known for their eco-friendly initiatives; in fact, the amount of trash associated with these events have made them hard for environmentalists to swallow. Especially now that plastic straws have been banned in many locations.

Today Glitter 100% plastic-free glitter

Unfortunately, this plastic infiltration is nothing new. At the recent Coachella festival, more than a dozen grape farmers picked up shifts each night collecting pounds upon pounds of plastic cups, wrappers, and trash.

But the California coastline is used to garbage crowding its shores. Among the 3,400 miles of California coastline, most of it has been cluttered with straws, plastics, and waste for years. Amidst the new laws seeking to banish plastic bags and other single-use plastic products, the makeup industry has been among the most difficult markets to sway.

Enter: biodegradable glitter.

Today Glitter 100% plastic-free glitter

While many companies have been touting eco-friendly glitter products this year, Today Glitter is the first 100% biodegradable glitter product for festival-goers, DIY crafters, and savvy spenders, alike. This glitter has been integrated into makeup brands, body lotions, and more, with FDA approval to be used on eyes and lips. This makes it one of the best products to use during festival season.

“At Today Glitter, our mission is to enhance the inner beauty of each individual without contaminating our environment,” notes Victor Alvarez, the spokesperson for Today Glitter. “With 100% plastic-free biodegradable glitter, beauty gurus, families, and everyone in between can experience the joys of glitter without risking harm to the planet. It’s our passion to give fans useful and creative alternatives to live a sparkly life without the waste.”

Today Glitter 100% plastic-free glitter

Best of all? This glitter degrades in fewer than 30 days. While it means you can’t stock up on your favorite products, it ensures that traditional glitter made from small pieces of plastic stay out of the environment.

These microplastics are terrible for the environment. Anything from plankton to fish to birds regularly ingests these plastics which contributes to bioaccumulation throughout the ecosystem. They can take up to 200 years to photodegrade in the environment where they break into smaller plastic particles before they’re finally gone. Scientists have been calling on a ban for glitter for years. It was thanks to their efforts that microbead exfoliants were banned back in 2015.

These biodegradable glitters are also much more comfortable to wear with some reports claiming that they’re up to 40% silkier than traditional glitter. Starting at $10, this affordable option will hopefully push plastics out of the beauty realm for good. This festival season, invest in eco-friendly products.

Tips & Tricks: How To Tackle Your Self-Care This Spring

With one-third of 2019 already in the past, how have you been doing on your New Years’ resolutions to take care of yourself and your health? If you’re like a majority of people, you’ve probably fallen off the bandwagon at least a bit by now. Don’t worry – there’s still plenty of time to pick up where you left off and get back into healthy routines this year. Spring can be a great time to pick up on healthier habits as the weather warms up; here are a few tips to make the most of your self-care this spring.

Try A New Exercise Routine

If one of your goals for the year was to get in shape, you might have found yourself getting bored with that gym membership. Exercise doesn’t always have to mean running on a treadmill though, especially if that gets to be more of a chore than it’s worth. See if you can work exercise into free time or relaxation with a new sport, like tennis. Playing tennis for fun can burn around 169 calories in 30 minutes for a woman, and 208 calories in 30 minutes for an average man.

Short on time for regular exercise? See what active swaps you can make in your existing daily routine. A 2017 study found that biking to work burns as much fat as spending 40 minutes at the gym five days a week. Switching to biking or walking will keep you active without you having to find extra time in your busy schedule to work out.

Explore New, Healthy Foods

If you’re a picky eater, finding ways to work more healthy fruits and vegetables into your diet can be a great form of self-care. Your body will get the nutrients it needs to take care of itself, plus you’re expanding your palette and trying new things. Look for healthy additions you can make to meals, like microgreens. Microgreens are a tiny form of edible greens produced from very young vegetable, herb, or other plants. They can be a great healthy addition to a sandwich, salad, or dish, especially if you find it difficult to get enough vegetables in one day.

Reward Yourself

Been delaying on buying that purse or new outfit for a special occasion? Find a reason to reward yourself and get yourself something nice. Using rewards and treating yourself to nice things can encourage other healthy behavior you’re trying to work on for yourself. Hit the gym recently, or finally took care of that doctor’s appointment you’d been stalling on? Treat yourself to a shopping trip and or a nice dinner out.

Make Moves Towards Mindfulness

When looking up self-care tips online, you find lots of people suggesting meditation. However, mindfulness doesn’t always mean meditating every day. While meditation can be helpful for some, try to get into a routine that includes mindfulness habits that work for you, whether that’s regular journaling, yoga, reading, and more.

Don’t Do It Alone

If you’re trying to get better at taking care of yourself and developing healthy habits, one of the most useful tools you can have is other people and their advice. You don’t necessarily need to rely exclusively on your friends for this; check out self-help books and the advice of professionals for tips that might work for you.

Spring can be a great time to work on your healthy habits, but everyone’s going to have a different method of approaching their self-care in a way that works best for them. How do you plan to work on your self-care habits this spring?

No More Colds, Better In Bed, Yogi Says His Secret Is Snorting His Own Urine

The wellness industry is an odd one. The people in the wellness industry have been swearing on the miraculous effects of whatever they’re peddling at the moment, be it snake oil or otherwise. There’s a reason the global wellness industry is worth $3.7 trillion.

In the course of hearing the proselytizing that wellness gurus, Instagram models, and your cooky Aunt might try to sell you, usually even the strangest fads have us doing little more than shaking our heads. This one from a Yogi got our attention.

Some people like to stay healthy by easy things like drinking green tea. Packed with antioxidants, green tea is great for you and contains a smaller portion of caffeine than coffee at 20 to 45 milligrams per eight-ounce cup. What about 49-year-old yoga instructor Sam Cohen? He’s been drinking through his nostrils for nearly the last 20 years. Not just his tea, but several of his beverages. The most jarring of all is that he’s been drinking his own urine through his nostrils for that amount of time, too.

This Yogi carries his own nostril guzzling pee glass with him, just in case he has to urinate whilst in public. He’s claimed using the stemmed glass to nose down gulps of his own urine in public restrooms, fancy hotels, and airplanes. One in ten people admit regularly forgetting to brush their teeth, most keep it to themselves, along with a myriad of other health and hygiene taboos, but Cohen is a missionary of this lifestyle. He and three others started drinking their own urine through their noses back in the year 2000 when their own yoga instructor learned about it.

They do it with all sorts of beverages, too, but it’s the urine that this Yogi insists makes him impervious to illness and better in bed.

“Before I was often drained and drowsy. I was 22 and once I started to drink urine I started to get younger again. The urine is just like an overall boost. It is not possible to get a cold when you constantly drink through the nose. It immediately calms and relaxes you. It facilitates digestion and improves appetite. It helps you breathe through the nose better. It removes tiredness and lethargy. It enhances the libido,” Cohen claims.

He reports being single.

If you’re questioning the science behind this, so are we. Even he admits it feels overwhelming at first because drinking something through your nose makes it feel like you’re drowning (which, essentially, you are). He says you eventually get used to it and it feels refreshing.

He and his friends have dubbed themselves The Merkaba, vehicle of light in Taoist practice. And they drink through their noses between 10 and 20 times per day. Which times are pee and which times are pinot noir isn’t clear.

Who’s ready to hop on board? Nose goes.

ARM & HAMMER™ Fruit & Vegetable Wash

Eat Pesticide-Free: Arm & Hammer Fruit & Vegetable Wash

For centuries we’ve been told to wash our fruits and vegetables with water to make them clean enough to eat. Of course with the increased use of pesticides, water isn’t enough when it comes to washing fruits and vegetables. To protect your family from pesticides and other contaminants, we have the perfect solution – Arm & Hammer Fruit & Vegetable Wash.

ARM & HAMMER™ Fruit & Vegetable Wash

This latest launch from Arm & Hammer safely eliminates more than 90 percent of pesticide residue while also washing away wax and soil. Made with only  7 ingredients, including Arm & Hammer baking soda, lemon oil, salt, and plant-derived cleaning agents, the new fruit & vegetable wash is scientifically proven to clean 4x better than water alone. According to independent studies, washing your fruits and veggies with water and/or bleach still leaves behind large traces of pesticides. The Arm & Hammer Fruit & Vegetable Wash removes surface pesticide residues more effectively than using tap water or a bleach solution.

ARM & HAMMER™ Fruit & Vegetable Wash

The first thing we noticed about the fruit and veggie wash was that it’s free from harsh chemicals. The second thing we noticed was its refreshing lemon scent. Other noted points are that it leaves no odor or taste behind, and is vegan-friendly and gluten-free.

“Arm & Hammer Fruit and Vegetable Wash is the only produce wash with baking soda as the primary active ingredient,” noted CR Brands CEO Dan Mickelson, whose company manufactures the product under license. “No one wants to leave wax or dirt, and certainly not pesticides, on the fruits and vegetables they serve. This is a safe, effective, and easy-to-use solution that makes sure the only thing we taste is delicious, natural flavor.”

Launched just in time for spring harvest, you can get the Arm & Hammer Fruit & Vegetable Wash for around $5.00 per 16.9oz spray bottle. Or better yet, get a 3-pack for $14.99 at Amazon and other select retailers. For more information, please visit www.armandhammercleans.com.
