Celebrating 45 Years of Dark and Lovely Hair Care for Women of Color

We recently helped celebrate a great milestone in African American beauty. This year, Dark and Lovely hair care celebrates 45 years of catering to the haircare and styling needs of women of color. The event highlighted Dark and Lovely’s rich heritage and impact the brand has made in the beauty and fashion in the African-American community from it’s creation in the 1970’s, to today.

To commemorate this milestone in haircare, brand ambassador, actress, and singer Demetria McKinney, welcomed the crowd with her latest single, as well as singing the brand’s praises.

“To have 45 years of excellence, to have 45 years of beauty, to have 45 years of empowerment – that’s what Dark and Lovely is. “To be a brand ambassador for this brand has been an awesome, awesome journey!”

Although she couldn’t make the event, actress Teyonah Parris, the newest brand ambassador for Dark and Lovely hair care welcomed the crowd of attendees with a video message stating her excitement to be part of the hair care brand.

“I am thrilled to be able to help Dark and Lovely celebrate their 45th anniversary and I am so excited to be the newest brand ambassador. “I grew up using Dark and Lovely products and I’m so proud to be able to represent the brand as an ambassador. It is a privilege to celebrate this significant milestone during Black History Month.”

After Demetria’s wonderful performance, we journeyed through the influential African-American hairstyles of the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and 2000’s; from afros and finger waves to braids, and flowing layers, each highlighting an essential Dark and Lovely hair care product. Fun fact about the iconic brand – did you know Dark and Lovely was introduced as the first hair color product formulated specifically for African American women? The brand has, of course, expanded to a wide range of deep conditioning treatments, shampoos, fade-resistant hair colors, relaxers, styling products, and a full line of products specifically designed for naturally curly hair.

Making their debut at the event were two new collections: Dark and Lovely Color-Gloss Ultra Radiant Color Crème, a no-ammonia natural-looking hair color infused with Shea Butter, Coconut Oil and Pomegranate, that gives natural looking color, while delivering a glossy shine; the Dark and Lovely Au Naturale Clumping Curl Clay Cleanser, and Clumping Curl Crème Gel, a care and styling duo formulated with Coconut Oil and Argan Oil, to help define naturally curly hair and reduce frizz.

The Dark and Lovely hair care event was capped off with the brand awarding five wonderful students with scholarships totaling $10,000 and assigned them to be mentored by L’Oréal USA senior-level executives as part of the Young Women with a Purpose Project, in partnership with The Tom Joyner Foundation. Scholarship winners include Ashani Scales of Delaware State University, Renea Young of Mississippi Valley State University, Hollye Weekes of Wiley College, Kimberly Burton, and Cherise McAdoo of Hampton University.

Dark and Lovely’s NEW Au Naturale Celebrates Curl Power

Singer/Songwriter Marsha Ambrosius (one-half of the soulful duo Floetry), Blogger Curly Nikki, and VH1 DJ Amanda Seales helped Dark and Lovely introduce the newest addition to their hair empire, Au Naturale, which celebrates the power of Curls.

Check out some video of Marsha Ambrosius and Curly Nikki welcoming the events attendees

Curly and natural-haired girls enjoyed a night filled with curl consultations from the SoftSheen-Carson Style Squad at the curl stations (stocked with the complete Au Naturale line for guests to personally enjoy), sharing curly hair stories in the Curl Talk booth, taking fun photos at the photo station, delicious hors d’oeuvres and cocktails

Models with curly hairstyles were on display and later walked the room allowing the events attendees to get a closer look at their very soft, curly hairstyles and the products used to create their looks (we are so in need of one of those Curl Power tees).

Dark and Lovely & Bria Murphy Celebrate the 6 Week Anti-Reversion Cream Serum Launch

SoftSheen-Carson®, the #1 ethnic haircare brand in the world has just launched a brand new styling product that will help women of color maintain the straight, smooth and silky look of just relaxed hair in between relaxing. The New Dark and Lovely 6 Week Anti-Reversion Cream Serum features exclusive Humidity Block Technology, a nourishing Amino Complex that wraps each strand to seal in straightness and block out moisture. Dark and Lovely Brand Ambassador Bria Murphy (daughter of Eddie Murphy) was on hand to help introduce this new amazing product.

The 6 Week Anti-Reversion Cream Serum is a styling solution that helps prevent curls, kinks and waves, keeping your hair perfectly smooth, straight and manageable up to 6 weeks in between relaxing. It smooths new growth, reduces the use of daily heat, controls frizz and locks in shine. “The 6 Week Anti-Reversion Cream Serum is the most innovative styling product and must-have for all relaxer consumers,” stated Mezei Jefferson, SoftSheen-Carson Director of Education. “Its exclusive Humidity Block Technology allows consumers to achieve the same smoothness and shine as if hair was just relaxed.” Check out Bria Murphy and Mezei Jefferson filling us in on the wonders of the 6 Week Anti-Reversion Cream Serum in the video below

For those of you ladies who do not relax your hair and are sporting natural, Mezei Jefferson informed us that you too can indeed use this product. It won’t give the same result as it would relaxed hair but depending on your hair’s texture, it will smooth out your hair, control frizz and lock in shine. The Dark and Lovely 6 Week Anti-Reversion Cream Serum is available in stores nationwide now and retails for $8.99.

SoftSheen-Carson also introduced two other new products also available now, Dark and Lovely Fade-Resistant Rich Conditioning Color Chocolate Bliss Collection. The collection consists of three new lovely shades of browns: Honey Rush, Cocoa Crush and Toffee Kiss and Dark and Lovely® 5-Minute Total Restore Conditioning Treatment, which instantly replenishes, restores and revives extremely damaged, dry and dull hair in only 5 minutes.
