About The Ali Forney Center (AFC)
Founded in 2002, AFC is the largest agency dedicated to serving homeless and runaway LGBT youth in New York City and in the nation. Our mission is to help homeless LGBT youth ages 16-24 to be safe, thrive, and become independent as they move from adolescence to adulthood by providing housing and a continuum of supportive and clinical services, in an effort to prepare them for successful independent living. On a typical day, AFC’s programming reaches nearly 300 homeless LGBT youth and over 1,000 unduplicated clients each year.

The Ali Forney Center was founded in honor of Ali Forney, a transgender teen, who was very familiar with the plight of homeless LGBT youth. Rejected by his parents, Ali ended up on the streets and turned to prostitution at age 13. Carl Siciliano first met Ali when he was 17 years old, when despite his troubles he was dedicated to advocating for the safety of other homeless LGBT youth. Ali was a committed HIV prevention worker, and aggressively advocated that the NYPD investigate a series of murders of the homeless transgender teens he had befriended. Ali was an inspiration to those who knew him. Tragically, in December of 1997, Ali was murdered on the streets. Committed to preventing further tragedies like Ali’s, Carl Siciliano and others founded the Ali Forney Center.

Elizabeth Arden | Flawless Summer & Travel Beauty

elizabeth-arden-logo

I had the pleasure of attending Single Edition’s Blog Meet Brand Event, where I was introduced to new products from Elizabeth Arden as well as enjoy a subtle but sexy makeover from the brand using some of their newest beauty products. The three products highlighted at the event were the Elizabeth Arden Ceramide Capsules Daily Youth Restoring Serum, Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant, and the NEW Beautiful Color Luminous Lip Gloss.

20130514_183111 20130514_182824

After some networking and mingling, we learned some great beauty tips on achieving flawless summer beauty looks and quick and easy travel beauty tips from Elizabeth Arden’s Global Makeup Artist Rebecca Restrepo. Ms. Restrepo also shared one of my favorite quotes from Elizabeth Arden that I think all women should remember – “To be beautiful is the birthright of every woman”Elizabeth Arden.

rebecca-restrepo-elizabeth-arden-global-makeup-head-shot

Rebecca Restrepo‘s must try tips include:

  •  Skincare is even more important when traveling. Must-have beauty products for traveling should be multi-use products and ones that can be packed in your carry-on. The Ceramide Capsules Daily Youth Restoring Serum deliver a lot of moisture and one capsule can easily fit into your pocket. Rebecca applies hers mid-flight for extra hydration and also uses it as a makeup primer when traveling.
  • Skin can get very dehydrated when flying, Rebecca advises packing the Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream as an essential part of your travel arsenal! She applies it to her lips before every flight and use it on her hands and elbows throughout the flight. As a bonus tip, she says to warm up the product in the palms of your hands before applying to your skin. This helps the Eight Hour Cream to activate and be absorbed quickly.
  • Per Rebecca, someone told her that solids travel better than liquids, so now she never goes anywhere without her Elizabeth Arden Flawless Finish Sponge-On Cream Makeup. It provides all the coverage she needs without making a mess in her makeup bag.
  • Last but not least, she left us with this parting tip – Before I land after a long flight, the perfect pick-me-up is a touch blush to brighten the cheeks, a swipe of brightening shadow to open the eye and a dab of rosy lip gloss. To achieve this fresh and well-rested look, Ceramide Cream Blush in Nectar, Beautiful Color Eye Shadow in Innocence and Beautiful Color Luminous Lip Gloss in Sweet Pink are my go-to products.

After taking us through the products, we got to play and test out some of the products ourselves

After trying out the three products highlighted, it’s no surprise that Elizabeth Arden has been a favorite of beauty lovers everywhere.
ceramide-face-capsules
The Elizabeth Arden’s Ceramide Capsules Daily Youth Restoring Serum delivers the perfect amount of hydration and Ceramide (essential lipids found in the skin that are essential in maintaining defense against signs of aging) benefits to your skin. If you’re like me and live in an apt that has terrible air circulation, these little capsules will be your best friend.
elizabeth-arden-eight-hour-cream
The Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant is legendary, a beauty favorite and staple since it was created by Ms. Arden in 1930, the formula has never been changed. I personally keep mine in the fridge so when I get those puffy eyes from late night blogging, the cooling effect helps reduce my unsightly bags.
elizabeth-arden-beautiful-color-lipgloss-in-sunset

The newest addition to the Elizabeth Arden brand is the NEW Beautiful Color Luminous Lip Gloss which offers high-shine, increased moisture with Mango and Shea Butters and a light vanilla scent. A key ingredient is Maxi Lip which is clinically proven to increase lip volume by 40%. I usually stay away from nude tones because I haven’t found tones that I like but I fell in love with Sunset (shimmery pink) and Cameo (shimmery nude). GLOSSYBOX and The Man Repeller3

Estee Lauder’s Sumptuous Extreme Lash Multiplying Volume Mascara – want a high-volume, false-lash look? Look no further than this mascara for bright, seductive eyes. Achieving bigger, bolder, more extreme lashes is a whisk of a wand away.

Fresh Umbrian Clay Mattifying Serum – as someone with oily skin, this is one of my favorite products. The high-mineral content of Umbrian Clay neutralizes acidity as it purifies and clarifies your complexion, tones and hydrates while controlling shine and minimizes those pesky enlarged pores.

Le Metier de Beaute Replenishing Daily Solution – perfect for those cold drying winter days, this rich, paraben-free emollient formula protects, conditions and hydrates while it nourishes, rejuvenates and detoxifies your skin.

Living Proof Prime Style Extender – another favorite of mine, this weightless, style extending hair primer is a must. It allows you to go longer between shampoos and touch ups.

Narciso Rodriguez for her Eau de Toilette Spray – a lovely spicy and sweet floral fragrance that screams femininity and sensuality.

OPI “Can’t Let Go” Liquid Sand Nail Lacquer – looking for the perfect matte purple with a touch of shimmer, you have found it. Now you can have matte without giving up a bit of shine.

Vincent Longo Lipstain SPF 15 Lipstick – I love an immaculate blue-red and this award-winning SPF 15 lipstick in “Americana” is divine. This nourishing and softening lipstain won’t bleed and can easily be a go-to red for anyone.

Beauty Globetrotting with DHC Skincare

I was lucky enough to be invited to an intimate event with DHC Skincare, the #1 beauty brand in Japan inspired by award-winning olive oil from the Nunez de Prado groves in Baena, Spain. I was also really lucky enough to sample a few of their great products including their Velvet Skin Coat (which I love), their Liquid Eyeliner EX, and their Deep Cleansing Oil and get a preview of their 2013 Skincare lineup – Pore Cleansing Oil, Pore Face Wash, Designing Pencil Eyeliner, Designing Pencil Eyebrow, and Kakonjuka Essence. But let’s begin with the products I’ve tried.
DHC_Deep_Cleansing_Oil_www.mylifeonandofftheguestlist.com

I absolutely love the Velvet Skin Coat. As someone who has oily skin and large pores, I experience “shine” within 1/2 hours of washing my face (I should own stock in Boscia – that’s how often I used their blotting sheets). I’m crazy about this mattifying makeup primer. Yes, it is a makeup primer and has a non-greasy, powdery gel texture which can also be used over your makeup as well (something I love for shine touch ups, especially on humid days). And the best part, a little goes a long way. This is one product, I would definitely purchase.

Regarding the Deep Cleansing Oil, I just started using it, mainly because as someone with oily skin and large pores, I’ve been told to stay away from any oil based products so I was a bit scared but so far no complaints (I really need more time to determine). My skin does feel softer after my three days of use, I’ve experienced no breakouts, it didn’t clog my pores, I can use it with my Clarisonic (I apply with my fingers and then use the Clarisonic) and while at a makeup event, the artist told me my skin was very soft – I’d say that’s a plus. The Liquid Eyeliner EX is an instant love. It’s precision is amazing and you can make it as subtle or bold as you want even if you’re not a makeup pro. Now on to what to expect from DHC Skincare for 2013

Pore Cleansing Oil and Pore Face Wash (launching January 1, 2013)

It contains nine nutrient-packed botanical oils and an Amino acid to help unclog and minimize the appearance of pores. The foaming Pore Face Wash cleanses and exfoliates skin while helping to minimize the appearance of pores, refining skin’s texture with baking soda and fruit juice AHAs for a smoother finish.

Kakonjuka Essence (launching March 1, 2013)

Kakonjuka_Essence_www.mylifeonandofftheguestlist.com

The Kakonjuka Essence (smaller bottle) is an emollient serum which contains six Japanese and Korean botanicals (Maitake mushroom, Platycara strobilacea, Licorice leaf, Great burnet, Purslane and Reishi mushroom) that helps fights fine lines and wrinkles. It works in synergy with DHC’s Kakonjuka Lotion and Cream to soothe, hydrate and promote collagen and elasticity.
