After 8 Years of Marriage, Adele and Simon Konecki Are Getting a Divorce

The tradition of giving someone an engagement ring dates back to 1477 when Maximilian of Austria gave his bride-to-be a masterfully crafted ring as a promise of their marriage. Since then, across the globe, people dream of finding their soulmate, giving or receiving an engagement ring, and living happily ever after.

Unfortunately, life isn’t a fairy tale and living happily ever after isn’t always an option — even for multimillionaire celebrities.

Over 50% of marriages end in divorce. If you’ve attended college, your risk of divorce decreases by 13%. But if you’re a millionaire musician from London, since your relationship is essentially under a microscope, that percentage is likely much higher.

According to AOL, Adele, who is currently recording her fourth album, is divorcing her husband and father of her child, Simon Konecki.

As her whole marriage has been in the public eye, it is very likely that her journey through divorce is also going to be documented in the same way, much to the excitement of the British public. As who doesn’t love reading scandalous articles about celebrity divorce? As interesting as it may be for readers, for Adele and her soon to be ex-husband, this is going to be a long and distressing time in their lives, but with the help of professional services like Peters May – Specialist Divorce and Family lawyers in Mayfair, London, they can help them to navigate these troubling and unknown waters to ensure that they can reach an agreement that all parties are happy with so they can continue to have a relationship for the sake of the child they share together.

In late April, the couple released a statement confirming their unexpected divorce, saying that the couple split up around eight months ago but are now making it official.

“Adele and her partner have separated,” wrote Adele’s representatives. “They are committed to raising their son together lovingly. As always they ask for privacy. There will be no further comment.”

It has been reported that the couple did not sign a prenup when they wed in 2011. If they file for divorce in the state of California, where they own property and Konecki’s business is located, she could end up losing as much as half of her earnings.

“What is made during the marriage is likely to be split on an equal basis,” added Sandra Davis, a divorce attorney who represented Princess Diana of Wales. “It doesn’t matter who did what, or who contributed what.”

As of May 2018, Adele was listed on the U.K. Sunday Times‘ annual “Rich List,” topping the Under 30 ranking with $182 million to her name.

Those close to the couple are confident that the two will be able to handle this highly publicized, high-stakes divorce respectfully because of the importance of raising their 6-year-old son Angelo. If a child is 12 or older, he or she would be able to speak with a judge privately regarding post-divorce issues and living situation preferences.

“Adele’s son is everything to her,” an insider told People. “Her whole life revolves around him. I just can’t see her divorce getting messy because she’s so careful when it comes to her son. She’s always five steps ahead in terms of how a decision will affect him.”

In Addition to Adele’s high-profile breakup, there have been plenty of expensive celebrity divorces over the years:

  • Ben Stiller and Christine Taylor — Divorced in 2017 after 17 years of marriage.
  • Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon — Divorced in 2014 after 11 years of marriage.
  • Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck — Divorced after 10 years of marriage.
  • Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow — Divorced in 2016 after 10 years of marriage.
  • Jenna Dewan and Channing Tatum — Divorced in 2018 after nine years of marriage.
  • Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux — Divorced in 2018 after two and a half years of marriage.
  • Johnny Depp and Amber Heard — Divorced in 2017 after two years of marriage.
  • Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries — Divorced in 2013 after 72 days of marriage.

Another College Athletics Scandal: This Time, It’s Not About the Athletes

The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) loves this time of year. College basketball tournaments are going on all over the country, football programs are gearing up for the upcoming season; and the money is pouring in. It’s estimated that the entire North American sports industry will be worth upwards of $74 million by 2020. The NCAA brings in more than $1 billion a year in revenue.

Because this organization is so profitable, there has been a push to better compensate student-athletes. Seemingly every year there are scandals involving athletes being illegally paid — especially when it comes to recruitment. The story that’s currently circulating the news, however, is a little bit different. Money is still exchanging hands and athletics are still involved, but it’s not the top athletes that are typically at the center of these college scandals. In fact, the students that are involved in this recent admissions controversy are barely athletes at all.

Graduates of the University

According to ESPN, federal prosecutors have indicted nine college coaches and dozens of other school administrators and officials for their involvement in an alleged bribery scheme that helped famous and wealthy parents — including Aunt Becky from Full House (Lori Loughlin) — secure their children admission into some of the country’s most prestigious universities.

“I don’t know how much of school I’m going to attend,” said Olivia Jade Giannulli, Loughlin’s 19-year-old daughter and USC student. “But I do want the experience of, like, game days, partying… I don’t really care about school.”

Jade, an online influencer, went on about her excitement for college parties on her YouTube channel last summer. Now, since her mother is at the center of this bribery scandal that involves creating fake athletic profiles, she’s taking some serious criticism. Unlike someone like Patti McGee, the first woman to become a professional skateboarder back in 1964, Loughlin’s daughter has no history in athletics.

College parties are one thing and twentysomethings love letting loose and playing all sorts of fun games during these outings. But at upscale cocktail parties, where two to three glasses a person are typically consumed, there are often shady, backdoor deals being done in order to get children into the nation’s top schools.

According to U.S. Attorney Andrew E. Lelling, what’s next for the students involved in this scandal is still to be determined.

“As to charges against them, we’re still considering that. It’s not an accident that there are no students charged in these charging documents,” Lelling said. “The parents, the other defendants, are clearly the prime movers of this fraud. It remains to be seen whether we charge any of the students.”

Jade and similar people looking for more of a party-like college experience should check out some of the following schools, though it’s still imperative to get in fairly. For what it’s worth, though these are still quality educational facilities, here are some of the top party schools in the United States:

  1. Tulane University
  2. University of Georgia
  3. West Virginia University
  4. University of Wisconsin
  5. Howard University
  6. University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
  7. Indiana University — Bloomington
  8. The University of Alabama
  9. Florida State University
  10. University of Texas — Austin
  11. University of Iowa
  12. Southern Methodist University
  13. University of California — Santa Barbara
  14. Miami University
  15. Penn State
  16. Ohio University
  17. University of Mississippi
  18. University of Southern California
  19. Syracuse University
  20. University of Kansas

The following schools are involved in the new bribery case: USC, Texas, Georgetown, UCLA, Stanford, Wake Forest, San Diego, and Yale.

L’Oreal Paris Debuts New Campaign Encouraging Women To #StopWaiting

L’Oreal Paris knows that waiting around for the good things in life is overrated. Even though an estimated 91% of women have been told that ‘good things come to those who wait,’ L’Oreal hopes to shake up this old adage with their new Elvive Hair Care.

The brand launched their #StopWaiting campaign to highlight the new Elvive Rapid Reviver Deep Conditioners, a product that restores and repairs damaged hair quickly.

 Deep Conditioners

This is essential for the busy businesswoman on the go or the tired teenager who has dyed their hair too many times. When it’s estimated that a woman will change her hair upward of 150 times throughout her lifetime, this kind of damage control is becoming increasingly necessary.

“We are excited to launch Elvive Rapid Revivers with Camila who with a demanding tour schedule and busy lifestyle understands the value of making every second count,” said Anne Marie Nelson-Bogle, the senior vice president of marketing at L’Oréal Paris USA.

Camila Cabello Stars in New L’Oreal Paris Elvive Rapid Reviver #StopWaiting Campaign

The notion that every second counts is the driving force behind the new line.

L’Oreal notes that 50% of women will spend more than three minutes conditioning their hair but one in two women feel that they don’t have enough time to condition properly. The time-saving aspect of L’Oreal’s new line appeals to any woman who wants to look great in a short amount of time.

L’Oreal Paris Elvive Rapid Reviver Deep Conditioner consists of three conditioning products with no leave-in time necessary. They tout a 20% damage repairing serum that offers users twice the nourishment, twice the revival, and two times less breakage without weighing hair down.

This is great for women who style their hair frequently. But it isn’t just hair maintenance and styling that can affect the health of your luscious locks. Lack of sleep not only gives you deep bags under your eyes, but it can actually stunt your hair growth and appearance.

According to hair restoration consultant Dr Sajjad Khan, the quality of our hair is an often overlooked aspect of sleep deprivation.

“Quality sleep is needed for adequate protein synthesis of the hair as well as the release of growth hormones and enzymes needed for healthy hair,” Khan notes. “In regards to your hormones, you’ll find that when you don’t get enough sleep, the production of melatonin (used by the body to regulate sleep and wake cycles) wanes, and studies have shown that this can decrease hair growth.”

Unfortunately, it’s estimated that 45% of Americans have trouble falling asleep in the first place. That means almost half of adults are depriving their hair of necessary proteins and nutrients.

For those of us with busy lives, chaotic schedules, and poor sleeping habits, such products as L’Oreal Paris now offers are eliminating the need to #StopWaiting for great-looking hair.

NYFW the Shows: Jeans for Refugees by Johny Dar

We’re still completely exhausted from the already jam-packed fashion week schedule that begun two days before the official first day. Exhaustion side, we had to begin our coverage with a very important show from a designer and organization that is doing great things. As you should be well aware, the world is experiencing a refugee crisis. It is one of the biggest humanitarian crises of our time. One artist is helping the cause by displaying wearable art pieces during NYFW. We love when fashion does good things, so our NYFW the Shows coverage begins with the Jeans for Refugees by Johny Dar.

As guests were treated to a live musical performance from Singer Polly A, models walked the runway in jeans donated by celebrities and features original Johny Dar prints, with hand-painted embellishment. Denim from the Jeans for Refugees by Johny Dar NYFW runway show were donated by Alicia Vikander, Anna Wintour, Benicio del Toro, Candice Swanepoel, Chanel Iman, Claudia Schiffer, Daniel Radcliffe, Elle MacPherson, Emma Watson, Eva Longoria, Florence Welch, Guillaume Nery, Harry Styles, Jamie Theakston, Joaquin Phoenix, Karlie Kloss, Karolina Kurkova, Kate Moss, Nicholas Hoult, Ozzy Osbourne, Rachel McAdams, Shannon Elizabeth, Sharon Stone, Sofia Coppola, TomWaits, Tuppence Middleton, Twiggy, Usher, and Victoria Beckham. Although the collection featured both men’s and women’s jeans, we’re highlighting the womenswear. All of the items from the show are up for auction at, with proceeds donated to the International Rescue Committee. The collection featured much more than just celebrity-donated jeans. Johny Dar also featured fashionable womenswear that boasted structured silhouettes, modern and edgy designs, and intricate design details.

We all know how tragic the refugee crisis is and this amazing global campaign gives us the opportunity to help. Painted onto every piece from the collection is a universal message, just as each color of the rainbow adds to the beauty of rainbows. All of the one hundred pairs of ‘Jeans For Refugees’ will be on exhibit at the Saatchi Gallery in London from the October 24th-30th. Check out the some of the collection (with both women’s and men’s jeans) as the models walk the runway finale, and a snippet of Polly A’s performance.

Golden Globes Wrap-up and What it Tells us about the Oscars

You didn’t even need to watch last night’s broadcast of the 72nd Annual Golden Globes to know that the evening’s hosts, Tina Fey, and Amy Poehler, killed it. In their third, and supposedly final, time hosting the dynamic duo brought their searing, self-deprecating and sarcastic humor to millions of viewers once again. Almost no one was safe as the two targeted everyone from Emma Stone, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, George Clooney, Kim Jong Un, Russell Crowe, Joaquin Phoenix, Wes Anderson, too, in the most polarizing and gasp-inducing moment of the night (just look at Jessica Chastain’s reaction), the embattled Bill Cosby.

Of course, the night wasn’t all about jokes, it was also after all, about films and television. There were many surprises in the television category since yet again, internet shows upset many of the network favorites. Prime examples of this were Jeffrey Tambor’s win for Best Actor in a TV Comedy for Amazon’s Transparent (which also picked up Best TV Comedy) and Kevin Spacey’s grab for Best Actor in a TV Drama for Netflix’s House of Cards.

Those weren’t the only surprises of the night when it came to TV, either. Newcomer and first-time nominee Gina Rodriguez overcame veterans and took home Best Actress in a TV Comedy for Jane the Virgin. Another upset was both Jessica Lange’s and Frances McDormand’s losses in Best Actress in a Miniseries or TV Movie to winner Maggie Gyllenhaal. Matthew Bomer then took home the men’s counterpart for his phenomenal performance in The Normal Heart. Showtime’s The Affair went on to take home two big awards: Best TV drama and Best Actress in a TV Drama (thanks to Ruth Wilson). Still, one of the biggest shocks of the evening came when cult favorite Fargo beat out fan favorites The Normal Heart and True Detective for Best Miniseries or TV Movie. It was a remarkable win and telling sign for companies like HBO, Showtime, FX, Netflix, YouTube, Amazon, DirecTV, and even Yahoo – all of whom have put their necks, and money, on the line to create original series.

As for film, the big winner of the night was the groundbreaking Boyhood, which took home a Best Director award for Richard Linklater, the coveted Best Motion Picture Drama award, and Best Supporting Actress for Patricia Arquette. Meanwhile, Wes Anderson’s critically adored Grand Budapest Hotel took home Best Motion Picture Comedy or Musical. Other big winners included Amy Adams for Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical for Big Eyes while the men’s equivalent was taken home by Michael Keaton for Birdman.
The two most anticipated awards of the night, Best Actor, and Actress in a Motion Picture Drama went to Julianne Moore for her portrayal of a woman with early-onset Alzheimer’s in Still Alice and Eddie Redmayne for his transformation into a young Stephen Hawking for The Theory of Everything.

The reason the Globes are so hotly anticipated is partially due to the fact that they are often regarded as the best indicators as to who might win big at the Oscars. The Hollywood Reporter points out that, “the Globes have been on the mark in 11 of the past 20 years. One of its two winners for Best Drama or Comedy/Musical has gone on to win the award that matters most – and the Globes were startlingly accurate from 1993 to 2003 when they matched the Oscar 10 out of 11 times until stumbling with 2004’s Aviator.”
If that truly is the case, it would appear that the Oscar is Boyhood’s to lose, and with so few truly great films in the running, it might just be an across-the-board prediction. The same article also points out that in the last 20 years, the Globes have predicted the winners for Best Actor 60% of the time, Supporting Actor close to 65% correctly, and Supporting Actress with 55% accuracy. Of course, its strongest predictions are for Best Actress, where 85% of the Globe winners have gone on to win the Academy Award – meaning this might finally be Julianne Moore’s year to take home a well-deserved Oscar.
Of course, the Academy has also been known to snub favorites and pick surprise winners in the past. The strongest bets to take home an Oscar based on both critical response and buzz, however, are still Boyhood for Best Picture and Julianne Moore for Best Actress.

Thank you to Guest Blogger, Spencer Blohm, for covering The Golden Globes and sharing his Oscar predictions. Did your favorites win? What are your Oscar predictions?

MOVIE REVIEW: The Bling Ring

We all know the story, it captivated us for so long and still does today. We know they did it, we saw the aftermath; but in order to fill our need to know everything, we needed to know how exactly they did it. Director, Sofia Coppola does an okay job of presenting her adaptation of the sensational, ripped-from-the-headlines tale of the fame-obsessed teens. She highlights the “fictionalized” true story before, during and after the ring’s infamous criminal activities – though much of the robbery scenes play out the same and it can get a bit repetitive but she does try to add different elements in each robbery scene.

Fans of Sofia Coppola’s work might not care for her directing the celebrity worship film – I’ve overheard a few people say it is too much of a fluff piece for the Director who usually goes for more deeper films – but I find it refreshing when Directors try different genres even if it doesn’t always work out. I can see how this movie highlights how we have become celebrity worshipers – in these teens case, enough to want to be like them so much that they literally dressed themselves in the celebrities’s actual possessions.

This movie definitely questions or at least highlights the morals of the players – so self absorbed that they felt no guilt sneaking into homes and rob them. From their attitudes, you can see they didn’t think of themselves as thieves, which they clearly were. But don’t worry folks, there is no fear of you feeling sorry for any of these them though your heart may twing a bit for the “Nick Prugo” character – the only one who shows a flash or two of regret. Now while the leader and initiator of this Burglar Bunch was the “Rebecca and Marc” characters, Emma Watson’s “Nikki” and Leslie Mann’s “Laurie” were the highlight of the movie for me. Emma Watson played the part of the Alexis Neiers character perfectly. From what we saw in their reality show, Pretty Wild, Emma totally hit the mark as oblivious Nikki and Leslie was spot on as the flighty mom. While I loved the scene with the Vanity Fair interview, I was truly hoping for the infamous phone call scene from Pretty Wild when the article actually came out – that was truly TV gold.

I’d like to end by giving kudos to Paris Hilton for making an appearance in the movie, especially as she was the most robbed celebrity in the entire scandal. Will you enjoy this movie – possibly if you enjoy seeing some mindless behavior of teens. Is it Sofia Coppola’s best work – not by a long shot but I’m happy she’s directing again – hopefully her next project will more like her past work.

The Bling Ring opens in theaters nationwide this Friday, June 21st. Huge thanks to A24 for the invitation to the screening.
