PORTS 1961 Debuts Menswear Collection

Tia Cibani has answered the prayers of men everywhere by finally coming out with a Ports 1961 Menswear collection. The collection, which debut in Milan during Milan’s Men’s Fashion Week, was influenced by classical sculpture. “These are clothes molded to the man and sculpted like a second skin. We dress the self-aware urban gladiator, a man who chooses pure and noble materials to express his inner nature, a man who needs his clothes to be tough and ready for action, but relaxed and comfortable when he rests“, says Tia and Ian Hylton.

The mood is über-masculine and fueled by the spirit of the renaissance, inspired in turn by classical art with its values of everlasting beauty, perfect proportion and harmony. Ports 1961 updates that mood with an exquisite freshness and a sophisticated contemporary feel. This season, Ports 1961’s menswear throws down the gauntlet to declare: from now on, only the best of everything…is good enough.

Grand Re-Opening of H&M Soho I and Soho II

H&M has give their two Soho Locations a fresh new look. Both H&M Soho 1 (558 Broadway bet Prince and Spring sts) and H&M Soho 2 (515 Broadway bet Spring and Broome sts) stores have been given all new interiors and fixtures with Soho 2 expanding by getting an entire new level. “This location will now feature the young trend department, an exclusive lingerie section, and the casual sportswear collections for both men and women in addition to the Ladies’ and Men’s collections!”.

To celebrate of both grand re-openings, H&M Soho 2, along with Nylon Magazine, held an unveiling event last night a packed crowd who were more than ready to enjoy the 25% off H&M’s already affordable prices, cocktails (courtesy of Svedka Vodka), some yummy hors d’oeuvres and giftbags (I missed out on the giftbags because I was too busy shopping, so I couldn’t tell you what was in it)

Unfortunately, I didn’t walk out with much (I’m not talking about the giftbag) – my only purchase was a pair of Dark Denim Trousers. I had two basic Tunics but my friend proceeded to take both out of my hands and told me NO (I’m paraphrasing) and I saw this beautiful medium heavy double breasted jacket (see below)

but unfortunately, they were all size fours which is when considering the size of my “girls”. This gave birth to a was a slight temper tantrum….mostly a lot of “damning” – don’t you just love the pockets but there are other H&M’s so the hunt is on.

Anyway, to continue the Grand Re-opening celebrations, both H&M Soho locations offered an H&M T-shirt and Access to Fashion Pass valued from $10 to $300 to the first 200 shoppers in line at each location. One lucky winner at each location received an All Access Fashion Pass allowing them early entry to the store to shop before doors opened to the public.

Both store locations will be open Monday through Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Sunday 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

H&M was established in Sweden in 1947. Today there are around 2,000 H&M stores in 37 countries. H&M has a wide product range that is divided into a number of different concepts for women, men, teenagers, and children.

Cynthia Rowley for Roxy

Amazing designer and Author, Cynthia Rowley, teamed up with junior line Roxy to create a very sporty beach chic collection for the ultimate Betty (surfer girl in non-California speak), Cynthia Rowley for Roxy, which was showcased at CO-OP Barneys.

The collection consisted of  colorful apparel, shoes and accessories with many apparel items made out of wet suit fabric aka Neoprene. I got a chance to speak to some of the models wearing the apparel made out of Neoprene and they all said that it was quite comfortable and breathable; and the did feel quite soft to the touch

I tried to get a quick interview with Cynthia Rowley but I’d have a better chance of talking to the Pope, she was completely surrounded from the time I stepped into the event until I left – I’m surprised I got a photo of her but I took a chance and snuck in while someone else was interviewing her (she’s in the first photo for those who are not familiar).
Will you be grabbing some pieces from the Cynthia Rowley for Roxy collection?

ShāToBu™ – The Workout You Wear

You may remember that I first mentioned (and discovered) ShāToBu in my post on the Robert Verdi Suite from this past season of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. Click HERE for a refresher. Anyway, while attending the CurveNY Show, which is a trade show held at the Jacobs Javits Center for lingerie, shapewear, etc. I decided to begin trying out my pair of ShāToBu™ (you’ve heard me discuss my thighs over and over again, and walking the trade show is a great workout). I was happily surprised to run into their booth at CurveNY.

curve 001 curve 002

But it turns out I surprised them when I was asked by the creator, Dr. Denise Perron, if I was familiar with ShāToBu™, I told them not only did I find out all about it at the Robert Verdi Suite but I was actually wearing a pair right now (yes I showed them) and how much I loved them (I really do). Many people who wear shapewear and the few complaints you hear the most are “they’re not comfortable, can’t breathe, bulging, visible lines through your clothes, too hot, etc” – well, I haven’t experienced any of that. In fact, I tend to forget that I am wearing the Waist to Knee Shape. Directly below is the High Waist to Knee Shaper which gives you a more enhanced hourglass look

ShāToBu – The Workout You Wear™ – is the revolutionary shaper that helps women shape, tone and burn more calories during everyday activities. It burns up to 12% more daily calories while helping you maintain a sleek, smooth silhouette in today’s fashions.
The benefits go beyond ordinary shapewear – ShaToBu instantly gives a sleeker silhouette, but women can also see and feel a difference in their bodies with regular use over time. By incorporating resistance bands right into the garment, muscles work a little harder and more calories are burned during daily activities.
ShaToBu helps women fit a workout into their normal day while looking and feeling great.

It was a wonderful experience visiting the ShāToBu booth and I enjoyed meeting Dr. Denise Perron

Fashion Night Out sponsored by Vogue

Let me start by saying, I wish this event was at least two days or more (And preferably prior to Fashion Week) because there is no way to hit more than three places in one night but we attempted to anyway.

We (Dave, Zia, Kim, our new photog friend, Brittany and I) foolishly thought we would be able to do this (Kim and I even had a charity event to attend that same night). Anyway, Dave, Zia and I started off at Movado (they started at 5pm while everyone else started at either 6pm or 8pm), stayed for a while, drank champagne, grabbed our giftbag and then headed to Gucci. We arrived to find a concert-length line (we should have skipped Movado); the first 200 people or so got the official Fashion Night Out t-shirt for free. Needless to say, we didn’t get the shirt, there were still about 20 people ahead of us when they ran out but we went in anyway to enjoy a few cocktails and drool over the accessories. We left 10 minutes later and headed to Bergdorf Goodman where most of the action was. On our way in, Zac Posen was rushing out the door (wearing a tiara) after painting one-of-a-kind dresses and we headed into the madness that awaited us. In the middle of a very large crowd (mob) were designers, Badgley Mischka signing fashion night out t-shirts.

With the help of heels, a long reach and a damn good camera, I got these photos and the video following

Of course they were only signing t-shirts purchased at Bergdorf so we attempted to do just that, with no luck. After several minutes, we decided to try to head to the 7th floor where Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen were guest bartenders but it seemed the madness found it’s way there too and we gave up and decided to try another store. To our surprise, on our way down via the escalators, i turned around to say something to my crew and who do I see riding on the escalator directly behind them? The queen of Vogue herself, Madame Anna Wintour

After excitedly taking a few photos (because she was actually smiling and waving to us), we remained in awe for a few more minutes then proceeded to escape the crowd. It was here we separated – Kim, Zia and I headed to the charity event which was attended by Housewives of NYC’s Alex McCord and Ugly Betty’s Ana Ortiz and Mark Indelicato. We then hit up BCBG where we received a free BCBG t-shirt and enjoyed drinks (although by this point water was all we wanted), then flew down to the meatpacking district for the finsl hour of Fashion Night Out. Dave and Brittany attempted to run into Pharrell at his store (no luck – too crowded).

Handbag Butler at NYIGF

As I mentioned in my post on the NYIGF, there were companies from around the world showcasing their products. I had the pleasure of getting to know a few like Handbag Butler of Australia. Handbag Butler is a chic, foldable hanger that can be attached to a tabletop to keep you handbag out of harm’s way. (like a dirty floor) Launched in Australia in October 2008, the Handbag Butler has given women the freedom to dine in style without putting their purse in peril.

nyigf 059

Handbag Butler comes in 25 unique styles in three very elegant collections – Printed Collection, Sparkle Collection and Crystal Collection (click on each Handbag Butler to see a more detailed view). I love the elegant beauty of the Printed Collection, the Swirl, the Butterfly and Tinker being my favs in this collection. They are so feminine and ornate. My other favorite is from the dazzling Sparkle Collection, which is so opulent; in fact it is from this collection that I found my own Handbag Butler – The Rose Petal

Now I know there are a few people in the market with this must have accessory but Handbag Butler stood out to me, not just because of their designs and beauty but their packaging as well. I ask, what do you do with your Handbag Butler when it’s not in use? Just put it in it’s little holder which is so adorable. And that holder comes in an intricately decorated – utterly adorable

Unfortunately, Handbag Butler isn’t available in US Stores as yet (I’m sure that will change soon after showing at the NYIGF) but you are able to order via their website. The Printed and Crystal Collections retail for $24.95 USD each and the Sparkle Collection retails for $29.95 USD. Funny thing, I’ve seen less beautiful pieces for much more. Trust me, go with the Handbag Butler.

As before, I got a chance to speak with the owner – Ana Slavka

****UPDATE – In approx 5 weeks, Handbag Butler will be available in about 20 shops in the US. For now it is available at “Lee’s Art Shop”, located at 220 West 57th Street . Happy Shopping.

Luxury Jewelry Brand, Sabido & Basteris at NYIGF

I was very excited to see the gorgeous jewelry from the renowned Italian-Mexican designer, Sabido & Basteris at NYIGF (New York International Gift Fair).

nyigf-006

I was already familiar with the collection by covering their launch event at Norwood but this time I had the pleasure of not only meeting Victor Sabido but also got a first-hand introduction to his Sabido & Basteris Luxury jewelry collection.

nyigf-008

Victor personally walked me through his new pieces which I immediately fell head over heels for. To refresh your memory, Sabido & Basteris uses cutting edge technology to dye silver using natural materials to create colorful ribbons of silver thread. Inspired by the beauty of the Mayan Temples, the ribbons are woven into the gorgeous pieces you see here

nyigf-113nyigf-010 nyigf-145
My absolute favorite pieces (the earrings, the ring which I had to try on and the necklace) are featured below, yes those beautiful pieces you see below are dyed woven silver thread; it is actually quite light and pliable to the touch; the pieces also have movement, they are not stiff at all. Every one of the Sabido & Basteris’s jewelry pieces are stand outs. One piece (any one piece) would be the perfect accessory to make your look come alive.

nyigf-004 nyigf-009 nyigf-016

Now, I cannot write about Sabido & Basteris without mentioning his luxe and grown-up friendship bracelets (which we had the pleasure of receiving at the Norwood launch). Aren’t they incredibly cute? I love the bright new colors and want one ( it’s a great look when you double and triple wear them).

As stated above, I got a chance to learn about and see the collection from Mr. Sabido Basteris himself – check out the video below

Estelle Hosts H & M Event “Fashion Against Aids”

H & M and Designers Against Aids teamed up together to create the Fashion Against Aids Collection and celebrate the newest H & M store on 86th Street and Lexington hosted by singing sensation, Estelle.

Dave was already at the location with Stephon, another friend of ours.

H & M 030

Kim and I arrived about twenty minutes after it started to find press photog and other media at the red carpet waiting for the celeb guests. I invited a young friend of mine, Matt, who helped me move (he’s an aspiring model), so I thought he might enjoy this event (it also was a good way to pay him back for helping me). And it so was (I will post a pic of him a bit later).

After we checked in, Kim and I walked into the new location to find some very fierce fashion on the first floor including my friend Indashio (which you might remember as the winner of the VH1 Show “Glam God” hosted by Vivica A. Fox)

We went upstairs to find the second floor was the party floor. It was very crowded, hors d’oeuvres were being passed around and the bars were packed

The very cute “Fashion Against Aids” t-shirts (designed by Cyndi Lauper, Dita Von Teese, Dangerous Muse, Estelle, Katharine Hamnett, Katy Perry, Moby, N.E.R.D, Robyn, Tokio Hotel, Roisin Murphy, Yelle and Yoko Ono), condoms, buttons (they were gone, so no photo of them) and displays are located to the right of the top of the escalator

It was then that I took a photo of Matt

Soon after this photo was taken, Estelle arrived and she was very gracious with taking photos with her fans (including Matt who had been quite busy networking the fashion crowd and showing his portfolio. He ended the night with some great connections)

H & M 022H & M 020

Then it was off to shopping. At the event, H & M allowed guests 25% off everything in the store, so we had to take advantage of that. After a quick trip to the bar for a drink and some oogling of the cute bartenders, we proceeded to shop

H & M 036H & M 034H & M 033H & M 032
I purchased the following t-shirts (not shown is the one by Dita Von Teese). The last one is the one by Estelle. I considered having her autograph it but I want to actually wear it

we walked around a bit more, taking in the sights, trying clothes on, etc. I was lucky to find one guest really enjoying the music, so I pulled out mt camera and proceeded to take some video (I love to see people having a great time)

We continued to have a great time the rest of the evening. We drank some more (except for Matt, who didn’t touch any alcoholic beverages at all- excellent), enjoyed more hors d’oeuves, paid for our purchases and left quite happy right to the red carpet and step n repeat banner for more photos
