Avon Launches Advance Techniques Professional Hair Color Collection

I’ve stated how many times that I love and not afraid of color – that goes for all color, not just in clothing, shoes, and accessories but in hair as well. I may not keep my hair short (I don’t think I have the right face shape for it) but I do love to color it. I’ve been honey blonde, chocolate brown, a ravishing redhead, a devilish blue-black and several colors in between – even now I’m sporting a color called chocolate cherry, so when I got the invitation to get familiar with Avon’s new Advance Techniques Hair Color Collection with the amazing Lorri Goddard, Celebrity Colorist and Avon’s new and first-ever Global Hair Color Expert. I was beyond ecstatic to attend and not ashamed to say, the first to arrive.

This is Avon’s first hair color launch in the US and they have partnered with Lorri to help empower women to achieve healthy, salon-beautiful hair at home. The Advance Techniques Hair Color Collection is a complete hair color system that equalizes porous damaged hair prior to coloring for even, true application and lasting results. The three-step system primes (a pre-treatment mends damaged, porous areas), colors and treats (with Shea Butter and Lock-In Technology) hair to deliver rich, radiant healthy looking color that provides 100% gray coverage. The collection includes 25 hair color shades (10 blondes, 4 reds, 9 brunette and 2 black shades)

We got some amazing tips from Lorri on how to select the correct shade (she advises that you go no more than 3 levels darker and 2 to 3 levels lighter than your natural/uncolored shade), properly color our hair at home (something that was always a battle for me with this thick hair of mine), and tips to help maintain our color – which includes getting your hands on a great product from Avon – Avon Advance Techniques Color Protection Lock-In Treatment, a product she uses on her celebrity clients

Moliabal Milano Luxury Hair Accessories

Everyone who knows me can hardly find an instance where I’m not wearing a headband (yes I wore them before they were as fashionable as they are now) and I’m always on the lookout for new fashionable hair accessories so when I was introduced the the very chic collection of luxury hair accessories from Moliabal Milano, I instantly fell in love.

Founded/designed by Monica Masini, the chic Moliabal Milano line of hair accessories, whose name is a combination of the first two letters of hers and her friends first names – Licia, Abele and Alberto – was established when Monica couldn’t find anything exciting in hair accessories. Deciding it was time to create her hair ornament collection, she became focused on finding new materials and inspirations from everything she saw around her, thus creating the first Italian line completely dedicated to luxury hair accessories.

Moliabal Milano offers many styles of French pins, snap pins, ponytail holders, combs, claws which retail between $10.00 – $50.00 each. The line features products made of silk, cotton, beads and chiffon, etc. The concept of the entirely Black & White Collection is “easy chic and classic style”. This concept gives the line the ability to satisfy women of all ages, making it perfect for every occasion, day or night. Each item is presented and sold in a branded organza bag (pictured above) which comes in three sizes – small, medium and large, matching the size of the accessories.

A self proclaimed perfectionist, Monica notes that she has re-made a sample 10 times until she found it perfect, sometimes driving her suppliers crazy but it’s all done in the name of her passion and love of her brand. Monica herself has a very rich history in fragrance and private label accessories. From the age of five, she was travelling around the world with her father, a distributor of cosmetic brands and fragrances in the Italian market. John Frieda Styling Tools by Conair Holiday Event

As a long time user of Conair Tools and John Frieda hair products, I was very excited to hear that the two haircare powerhouses came together to create a new line of hair styling tools. John Frieda® hair styling tools collection initially launched the first half of 2011 and included a series of hair dryers, straighteners, and styling tools that offer state-of-the art technologies. John Frieda Styling and Conair recently held a Winter Wonderland Holiday event at Celsius Bryant Park where they treated guests to complimentary hair styling, festive treats and a preview of the latest styling tools from the John Frieda for Conair Collection.

As guests waited to get amazing hair, they were kept warm by hot beverages provided by Cuisinart and deliciously hot popcorn from Waring Pro

The event was also a chance to unveil a one-of-a kind tree (with the most innovative star) adorned with John Frieda Styling Tools by Conair! After the event, all tools were donated to Safe Horizon to help support victims of domestic violence.

The tree was custom-decorated by designer, Erin Gates, top interior stylist and writer of the blog, Elements of Style. It was a great and successful event that both men and women enjoyed. Hopefully it becomes an annual one. Enjoy more photos below

Let Somme Institute Give Your Skin a BOOST

My favorite thing to get (besides free shoes) is a facial. And during stressful times or the cold winter months, it is essential to fight back damaging elements with a facial. Of course not all of us can just run out to a spa but luckily you can heal your skin at home. The Somme Institute has introduced a new addition to their wonderful 5-Step Regimen – the Boost Gentle Warming Mask.

sommeboost

Boost is a multi-tasking treatment mask that purifies and nourishes the skin leaving it smooth and refreshed. Infused with a specialized blend of minerals, enzymes and vitamins, it brings new skin tone, texture and clarity. Gentle enough for all skin types and skin conditions (including Sun Damage, Fine Lines & Wrinkes, Acne and Rosacea), Boost prepares the skin to better receive and absorb the Somme Institute 5-Step Regimen. This creamy oat-colored mask is decadent to apply, it smooths on the face with ease and spreads evenly and smells absolutely divine. The faint scent reminded me of fall dessert and after reading that it contains pumpkin enzymes, I quickly saw the appeal. Pumpkin is rich In Vitamins A, C, and Zinc; it soothes, moisturizes and acts as a carrier, assisting the other mask’s ingredients to absorb deeper into the skin and intensifying the results. So with Boost, you will benefit even more from Somme Institute’s Patented MDT5 Technology. Boost also contains Zeolite, a natural mineral to warm the skin and open the pores enabling Kaolin to aptly absorb excess oil, dirt and impurities.

I realized one major perk of using Boost, as the weather gets colder, I always noticed that I immediately felt the temperature on my face only a few minutes of being exposed to the elements. My face felt a bit tight even though I used a moisturizer but while using Somme Institute’s Boost, that was not an issue anymore. My skin not only felt supple and moisturized, it truly was. The skin on my face took no notice of the cold weather and wasn’t affected by it at all.

How do you use Boost? Somme Institute recommends you use it 1-3 times a week but Boost can be used daily as well without harm. After Nourishing Cleanser on dry skin, apply Boost to forehead, cheeks and chin and massage Boost onto skin for a couple of minutes. Leave Boost on the skin for 3-5 minutes and then remove with a warm towel. Continue with Somme Institute Transport.

The Curly Nikki New York City Meetup Sponsored by Mizani

Hundreds of natural hair lovers packed the Millesime Lounge at The Carlton Hotel in New York City for Curly Nikki’s first NYC meetup. The soiree was sponsored by Mizani, who featured new additions to their True Textures Collection; Curl Soft, a weightless leave-in conditioner and Curl Set, a moisturizing high hold jelly.

We were also treated by surprise celebrity guests from “Fresh Prince of Bel Air” actresses Janet Hubert (Aunt Viv) and Karyn Parsons (Hillary), who came to show their support.

“CurlyNikki has built an amazing network of women who are passionate about natural hair. We’re happy to champion her, and what she’s doing. It coincides with what’s important to us in the beauty industry – a passionate exchange of ideas. “

The model’s hair turned out nicely defined in the end. Not your traditional curl shape

In the midst of all the lovely curlies was lot’s of picture taking and even some styling. Mizani Team member, Toni Jackson-Garcia showed off a new Mizani styling tool called Lacers. These cool little thingys let you achieve defined curls/waves easily, weather your hair is straightened or naturally textured. They’re soft and comfortable too. These are supposed to be available from Mizani, although they seemed to not be available on their website currently. I smell an investigation coming on!

I was a fan of Mizani products when I was relaxed and they are steadily convincing me to try the True Textures line on my natural locks now. I was so inspired by the products and styles I saw there, I rocked big, blow-dried, braidout hair the very next week!

Pat McGrath for LeSportsac 2011 and Covergirl Collection Party

The legendary Pat McGrath, makeup artist for P & G Beauty (which owns Covergirl), has once again collaborated with LeSportsac to create an 8-piece pro cosmetic bag collection. We were one of the lucky few who got to attend the Pat McGrath for LeSportsac 2011 and Covergirl Collection Party. She is legendary and the most influential editorial and celebrity makeup artist in the known world.

The premier collection, which debuted last year, featured two makeup bags inspired by CoverGirl LashBlast Length Mascara. The 2011 collection is inspired lips, specifically by the CoverGirl LipPerfection lip color collection, and features new exclusive designs and shades from LeSportsac that coordinate perfectly.

The collection ranged from the small Kiss Case to the large Professional Carry All Tote that’s large enough to hold several other pieces from the Pat McGrath for LeSportsac 2011 collection which makes for easy travel. Though we did not get to interview Ms. McGrath at the launch event, she sweetly posed for a photo.

Carol’s Daughter Spokesbeauties unveil Monoi Haircare at Sephora 34th Street

Two days ago I announced Solange Knowles, Selita Ebanks and Cassie would be at Sephora to celebrate the launch of Carol’s Daughter new haircare collection – Monoi Haircare. See the announcement HERE. Well here are some photos from the event as the ladies unveiled their ads. Red carpet ran a bit behind so I didn’t get to shoot Cassie or Mary J. Blige, but Selita Ebanks and Solange Knowles are photographed in from of their posters below

The front and interior of the 34th Street Sephora was incredibly packed when the ladies hit the red carpet as fans scrambled to catch a glimpse of the ladies and first-hand look at the new Monoi Haircare Collection placed in stand-alone kiosks featuring photos of the Spokesbeauties. We were lucky enough to have access to inside the beauty retailer to capture the kiosks photos, but all the action was outside as the ladies  took photos in front of their Monoi Haircare Collection posters
