Village Voice Eighth Annual Choice Eats Tasting Event Recap

Foodies from around the tri-state area converged on the Metropolitan Pavilion to once again partake in the extraordinary gastronomy experience that was the Village Voice Eighth Annual “Choice Eats” Tasting Event. With well over 60 participating restaurants that were handpicked from all five NYC boroughs, Choice Eats did not disappoint attendees who enjoyed unlimited sampling of the restaurants’ best mouthwatering dishes, indulgent desserts, complimentary craft beer pairings, wine and liquor beverages. We had the pleasuring of once again attending this illustrious event and feasted as much as we could without going into a food coma. Our food journey started led us to old familiar favorites like The Kati Roll Company, Luke’s Lobster, Doughnut Plant, and Carlo’s Bakery, but we also discovered lots of new yummy loves as well. Join us in drooling over some of what we enjoyed.

We indulged in some many delicious fare that we had to take breaks and walk around in between sampling just to help our digestion efforts. This proved to be a wonderful plan, because we got to enjoy much more than we did at last year’s Choice Eats.

After indulging in the above savory dishes, it was time to move upstairs to surrender to a few decadent desserts and get to know the Choice Sweets section of the event. We devoured the delicious samples from Tate’s Bake Shop, Fay Da Bakery, Sugar Couture, Butter Lane, Luca & Bosco, Carlo’s Bakery, Doughnut Plant, Robicelli’s, and Butter & Scotch.

After we had our fill of desserts, we walked a bit more around the event capturing photos of the festivities, talking to fellow attendees, and enjoying a cocktail or two from the participating alcohol vendors

Full food coma was achieved when we got home after the event and we wouldn’t trade that experience for anything in the world. Choice Eats is a must for foodies, or anyone who wants to discover new restaurants or flavors. You should add it to your “must-go-to” list immediately.

Baileys Coffee Creamers | A Little Cream in our Tea?

Who would think the first day of spring would be the perfect day for a delicious mug of tea, not that we need an excuse to drink our chai but today just worked out in our favor. We got to indulge in something we’ve been dying to try for a while, the Baileys Coffee Creamer in Bourbon Vanilla Pound Cake. We know many of you see this and think, why are we talking about drinking tea with a coffee creamer? Trust us when we say, this delicious coffee creamer is not just for coffee. We discovered how amazing Baileys Coffee Creamers are in tea when we were younger. We were making ourselves a cup of chai, and discovered we were out of milk, so we grabbed our mom’s Baileys Creamer and the rest, as they say, is delicious history.

We were introduced to the newest decadent flavors from Baileys Coffee Creamers: Bourbon Vanilla Pound Cake, and Macadamia Brittle, at Food Fete last month. The Bourbon Vanilla Pound Cake is made with four simple ingredients. It combines the light, buttery-sweet flavor of pound cake, the delicate notes of bourbon flavor, and aromatic vanilla. While we’re sure it tastes fantastic in coffee, it is an absolute dream in chai. Adding Macadamia Brittle to your tea will have you thinking someone is baking a fresh batch of macadamia-filled brittle just for you. Trust us when we say, it tastes even better than it sounds, and you won’t regret the indulgence.

We’re on our third cup of the night, and we’re quickly on our way to a fourth, especially as the weather is in its current state of “not spring”. We confess we’ve also tried a little of these Baileys Coffee Creamers in oatmeal and of course were not disappointed. You can also add both flavors to a host of various dessert recipes for even more delicious indulgence. Both of the above new flavors, available in 16 oz and 32 oz bottles, plus many more flavors, are available for purchase now at Food Emporium, Pathmark, ShopRite, A&P, Walmart, and Stop & Shop.

Scared of Tap Water & the Effects of BPA? Refresh Naturally w/ Premium Icebox Water

In our attempt to drink more water (women should drink 9 cups a day while men should average 13 cups a day), we’ve found ourselves wanting to know more about our water supply, and frankly some of what we’ve come across scares us a bit. Did you know that bottled water is often only filtered tap water? We didn’t realize there was so much to fear from our tap water but we have learned there is. Because of this, we find we’re more inclined to purchasing bottled water, but even that brings up a whole other set of researching on bottling methods, packaging, water sources, etc. The result of our research led us to Icebox Water, a clean, crisp, pure spring water from Canada that is packaged at its source, the True North Spring.

 icebox-water

The naturally organic Icebox Water spring water is filtered in the glacier-carved freshwater fjords (“a long, narrow inlet with steep sides or cliffs, created by glacial erosion”*) of Newfoundland, far away from contaminants. This refreshing, environmentally-friendly, and safe for you, premium spring water has a pH of 7.4, 14.0 mg/L of Calcium, 2.0 mg/L of Magnesium, boasts safe and eco-friendly, BPA-free, pressed paper packaging that contains 76% less plastic than a PET bottle (regular water bottles made of polyethylene terephthalate), is compostable and 100% recyclable, and has a shape that fits just about anywhere. We didn’t realize there was a difference in water until we tried Icebox and tasted how different it was from the filtered tap water and the bottled water we drank. The difference is beyond it being good for you, Icebox made us realize that we didn’t drink more water because we just didn’t like the taste. With Icebox, we easily met and surpassed the required amount of water we’re supposed to drink in a day.

We think everyone should try Icebox Water, a case of 12 – 500ml Cartons is only $12.00, and compare it to their current drinking water, you won’t go back.
