Fashion Night Out sponsored by Vogue

Let me start by saying, I wish this event was at least two days or more (And preferably prior to Fashion Week) because there is no way to hit more than three places in one night but we attempted to anyway.

We (Dave, Zia, Kim, our new photog friend, Brittany and I) foolishly thought we would be able to do this (Kim and I even had a charity event to attend that same night). Anyway, Dave, Zia and I started off at Movado (they started at 5pm while everyone else started at either 6pm or 8pm), stayed for a while, drank champagne, grabbed our giftbag and then headed to Gucci. We arrived to find a concert-length line (we should have skipped Movado); the first 200 people or so got the official Fashion Night Out t-shirt for free. Needless to say, we didn’t get the shirt, there were still about 20 people ahead of us when they ran out but we went in anyway to enjoy a few cocktails and drool over the accessories. We left 10 minutes later and headed to Bergdorf Goodman where most of the action was. On our way in, Zac Posen was rushing out the door (wearing a tiara) after painting one-of-a-kind dresses and we headed into the madness that awaited us. In the middle of a very large crowd (mob) were designers, Badgley Mischka signing fashion night out t-shirts.

With the help of heels, a long reach and a damn good camera, I got these photos and the video following

Of course they were only signing t-shirts purchased at Bergdorf so we attempted to do just that, with no luck. After several minutes, we decided to try to head to the 7th floor where Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen were guest bartenders but it seemed the madness found it’s way there too and we gave up and decided to try another store. To our surprise, on our way down via the escalators, i turned around to say something to my crew and who do I see riding on the escalator directly behind them? The queen of Vogue herself, Madame Anna Wintour

After excitedly taking a few photos (because she was actually smiling and waving to us), we remained in awe for a few more minutes then proceeded to escape the crowd. It was here we separated – Kim, Zia and I headed to the charity event which was attended by Housewives of NYC’s Alex McCord and Ugly Betty’s Ana Ortiz and Mark Indelicato. We then hit up BCBG where we received a free BCBG t-shirt and enjoyed drinks (although by this point water was all we wanted), then flew down to the meatpacking district for the finsl hour of Fashion Night Out. Dave and Brittany attempted to run into Pharrell at his store (no luck – too crowded).

Ports 1961 Spring 2010 Show

Tia Cibani’s nature-inspired “Fluere” for her Ports 1961 Spring 2010 collection reminded me very much of a Japanese Garden, not because of the few floral prints but because of the structure of the garments. There is a distinct look and feel to an Asian garment, you can always see influences of that inspiration in any design. These two looks directly below remind me of a koi pond, of course it may be because of the color and the movement of the garments (I must say that no where in the show’s run-through does it mention an Asian influence but that is just what it reminds me of).

However if you do notice in these other two garments below, you’ll notice that Japanese Obi Belts have definitely inspired the waistline on these gorgeous garments. I love Tia Cibani’s vision, it’s always so modern but with a very distinct twist. Her stuff is never boring but oh so beautiful and charming

Needless to say the collection was one of many that took my breath away. I do love Ports and I think I’ve stated this before – I do own a few Ports accessories and of course I’d love to own more especially the shoes. There is one style for the Spring 2010 season that I may just do something illegal for. I couldn’t get a good shot of the shoes (those models can be quite speedy) but thanks to the internet, I got a photo (excuse me while I drool)

Handbag Butler at NYIGF

As I mentioned in my post on the NYIGF, there were companies from around the world showcasing their products. I had the pleasure of getting to know a few like Handbag Butler of Australia. Handbag Butler is a chic, foldable hanger that can be attached to a tabletop to keep you handbag out of harm’s way. (like a dirty floor) Launched in Australia in October 2008, the Handbag Butler has given women the freedom to dine in style without putting their purse in peril.

Handbag Butler comes in 25 unique styles in three very elegant collections – Printed Collection, Sparkle Collection and Crystal Collection (click on each Handbag Butler to see a more detailed view). I love the elegant beauty of the Printed Collection, the Swirl, the Butterfly and Tinker being my favs in this collection. They are so feminine and ornate. My other favorite is from the dazzling Sparkle Collection, which is so opulent; in fact it is from this collection that I found my own Handbag Butler – The Rose Petal

Now I know there are a few people in the market with this must have accessory but Handbag Butler stood out to me, not just because of their designs and beauty but their packaging as well. I ask, what do you do with your Handbag Butler when it’s not in use? Just put it in it’s little holder which is so adorable. And that holder comes in an intricately decorated – utterly adorable

Unfortunately, Handbag Butler isn’t available in US Stores as yet (I’m sure that will change soon after showing at the NYIGF) but you are able to order via their website. The Printed and Crystal Collections retail for $24.95 USD each and the Sparkle Collection retails for $29.95 USD. Funny thing, I’ve seen less beautiful pieces for much more. Trust me, go with the Handbag Butler.

As before, I got a chance to speak with the owner – Ana Slavka

****UPDATE – In approx 5 weeks, Handbag Butler will be available in about 20 shops in the US. For now it is available at “Lee’s Art Shop”, located at 220 West 57th Street . Happy Shopping.

Luxury Jewelry Brand, Sabido & Basteris at NYIGF

I was very excited to see the gorgeous jewelry from the renowned Italian-Mexican designer, Sabido & Basteris at NYIGF (New York International Gift Fair).

nyigf-006

I was already familiar with the collection by covering their launch event at Norwood but this time I had the pleasure of not only meeting Victor Sabido but also got a first-hand introduction to his Sabido & Basteris Luxury jewelry collection.

nyigf-008

Victor personally walked me through his new pieces which I immediately fell head over heels for. To refresh your memory, Sabido & Basteris uses cutting edge technology to dye silver using natural materials to create colorful ribbons of silver thread. Inspired by the beauty of the Mayan Temples, the ribbons are woven into the gorgeous pieces you see here

My absolute favorite pieces (the earrings, the ring which I had to try on and the necklace) are featured below, yes those beautiful pieces you see below are dyed woven silver thread; it is actually quite light and pliable to the touch; the pieces also have movement, they are not stiff at all. Every one of the Sabido & Basteris’s jewelry pieces are stand outs. One piece (any one piece) would be the perfect accessory to make your look come alive.

Now, I cannot write about Sabido & Basteris without mentioning his luxe and grown-up friendship bracelets (which we had the pleasure of receiving at the Norwood launch). Aren’t they incredibly cute? I love the bright new colors and want one ( it’s a great look when you double and triple wear them).

As stated above, I got a chance to learn about and see the collection from Mr. Sabido Basteris himself – check out the video below

Shigoto Fashion Launch Event

On a dry but humid day, Dave, Kim, Natasha and I ventured downtown to attend the Shigoto Fashion Launch Event at Ninja New York Restaurant.

Shigoto’s mission is to bring this innovative Japanese street style to the world and they begin with this first US show.

Right before the show, we dined on some of Ninja’s delectable Ancient Short Rib and got a surprise when we noticed Kwame Jackson, runner-up from Season 1 of The Apprentice

Kwame Jackson

I asked what he was up to now and he told me he had an accessory line called Krimson by Kwame. Anyway, although I didn’t get a chance to speak to the designer, I did get a photo (see above) and of course each model was stationed in the various alcoved rooms at Ninja Restaurant, which allowed us to take photos. After I got my photos, we each grabbed our gift bag and headed on our way.

Sabido and Basteris Luxury jewelry Launch Party At Norwood

A very good friend invited me to the launch event of a Jewelry line that was launching in the US for the first time. Naturally, I attended and dragged Kim along with me. The Sabido and Basteris luxury jewelry collection is absolutely breathtaking; the words gorgeous, enchanting, amazing does not do it justice (I only took one photo because they were made available to us). The event was held gallery style at the exclusive Norwood Club lent even more to the regal beauty of the jewelry, they truly are pieces of art.

As we walked around enjoying taking in the beauty of the pieces, enjoying champagne and the tasty hors d’oeuvres, we were told of the concept of the collection. Inspired by the Mayan Temples, designer, and creator, Victor Sabido Basteris rediscovered the art of using natural materials to create color. “Sabido & Basteris combines fine jewelry design with cutting edge technology to dye silver using natural materials to create ribbons of rainbows. The line is distinguished by brilliant colors and silver thread that is weft in a completely unique way.”. The eco-friendly and sustainable line not only featured silver but also a mix of materials such as gold, leather, precious stones (as well as stones indigenous to various countries), wood and crystal creating the beauty that you see above. I expect to see the Sabido and Basteris pieces very soon on the red carpet.

Unfortunately, we didn’t get to meet the designer as we had another event to attend (always another event) but on our way out we were gifted with a beautiful friendship bracelet like the ones featured below:

There was one piece that made me speechless but alas I didn’t take a photo and thankfully a quick search brought it up. I won’t call it a necklace, it is just a gorgeous piece of artwork

DIZTRICT RE-LAUNCH EVENT

Apologies to all but there’s been some major changes going on in my normally easy life. I’ve attended a few events and skipped several but here I am to discuss the ones I’ve attended. Ok, here we go

For many years, I’ve walked down Bleecker Street on my way hang out with friends, grab some cupcakes from the Magnolia Bakery (yum) and I’ve always passed by this boutique called EOS New York plenty of times but have never gone in…until today. EOS New York, which only carried EOS branded products is now called Diztrict, located at 259 Bleecker St

Diztrict now carries the following brands:

PAN AM
REVENJ

STORM

A very chic boutique that only sells accessories, it is the perfect place to pick up that certain piece that completes your look. it’s a small but beautiful boutique, so vivid and full of color

As usual, I was the first to arrive, both Kim and Dave were running late. This of course gave me a chance to have a really good cosmo

and excellent extreme topping hotdogs from New York Hotdogs and Coffee, located just a few doors down at 245 Bleecker St. I also got a chance to interview Mukul Lalchandani, CEO of EOS New York

The boutique is known for it’s amazing line of watches

(I took short video of some of my favorites)

but now, you will see the gorg bags (I so want one) from Pan Am

cool boards and the cutest little animals (Kim bought one)

As you can see, this store is amazing, so stop running around the city looking for chic accessories, you have it right here. Along with the amazing cosmo and hotdogs, we got a great giftbag

which includes one of my summer staples…..a hand fan. Since I’ve destroyed all my others from excessive use, I’m happy I get to save on a new one (thanks guys)

LAUNCH OF ABSOLUT MANGO

Oh boy, oh boy, although it’s cold outside, I was enjoying that sunset view all night at the launch of Absolut’s newest flavor – MANGO!! Welcome, ladies and gentlemen to the Absolut Mango Launch Party. This event was thrown by Us Weekly and Rolling Stone, although sad to say there were no issues of either. They turned the ground space at 122 W 26th street into a Mango Grove (yep, trees and all).

Absolut-Mango

I met up with Dave and we headed over to the event, Kim was on her way, Marisol was stuck at work and never made it, Mr. Popular, Alex double booked himself and we don’t know what happened to Patty. Anyway, as soon as we walked in, we were greeted by a woman peeling fresh mangoes on a stick which were made available to anyone who wanted.

Absolut-Mango-002 Absolut-Mango-003Absolut-Mango-003

I LUVVVVVVVV Mangoes, so I immediately grabbed one, Dave passed and we headed for the bar, on my way I decided to get some decor photos. There were mangoes everywhere and I mean everywhere.

ABSOLUT-MANGO-LAUNCH

According to the Absolut website, “The main ingredients in ABSOLUT MANGO are ABSOLUT VODKA and mango flavor. ABSOLUT VODKA is made from water and winter wheat. The water comes from a deep well in Åhus where it’s protected from impurities. The winter wheat is also grown in Åhus and differs from other crops: it’s sown one fall and harvested the next one. Days in between it grows under the Swedish snow developing its’ hard grain. Also, the use of fertilizers is minimized. Of course, the mangos are as natural as the rest of the ingredients”

We made our way to the bar and it seems there were three choices tonight, I decided to start with the Absolut Mango Spice and Dave went with the Absolut Mango Cooler.

Absolut Mango 010

Naturally I took some photos while we were waiting for our first round of drinks (did I mention that we tried all of the drinks that night)

Hope you guys could feel the vibe of the event through some photos of the DJ Johnny Dynell and the great crowd

ABSOLUT-MANGO-LAUNCH2

I ended up having 4 or so drinks, Kim barely had one and Dave had more than me (I’ll just keep it at that). It was a great night and a fantastic event. On our way out, we each took 2 mangoes to take home (I later heard someone took 8).
